TRAVEL FIRST was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, TRAVEL FIRST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GOD OF DRAGON shifted out at the start and bumped GIANT TURTLE.
OWNERS’ STAR began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between JOLLY GENE and TASHIDELEK which shifted in.
After initially being ridden along, TASHIDELEK was steadied and shifted across behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover. Then near the 2000 Metres, when racing in a three wide position, TASHIDELEK was further steadied to obtain cover behind OWNERS’ STAR.
OWNERS’ STAR made the Home Turn awkwardly.
Passing the 300 Metres, GIANT TURTLE was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of JOLLY GENE as TASHIDELEK improved quickly to its outside.
A veterinary inspection of GIANT TURTLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SALTO OLIMPICO and TASHIDELEK were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (715) MOUNT CAMERON HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

KWAICHUNG BROTHERS stood flat-footed at the start and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, KWAICHUNG BROTHERS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
LOVE CHUNGHWA and GOLDEN CANNON were crowded for room on jumping between WINNING CIRCLE and GODSPEED, both of which shifted ground.
SOCCER BRAVE shifted in at the start and bumped KEEP WINNING.
From wide barriers, LET’S COME BACK and LETSGOFREE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
KWAICHUNG BROTHERS lost its right front plate in the early stages.
Near the 1050 Metres, WINNING CIRCLE got its head on the side, shifted in of its own accord and became unbalanced after brushing the running rail. When WINNING CIRCLE became unbalanced, it shifted back out and bumped LUCKY SHINY DAY, causing LUCKY SHINY DAY to become unbalanced and WINNING CIRCLE to become further unbalanced.
KEEP WINNING travelled wide and without cover until approaching the 800 Metres at which time HIDDEN SPIRIT was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 50 Metres, LETSGOFREE was shifted in away from the heels of KEEP WINNING to continue improving.
Passing the 50 Metres, GOLDEN CANNON was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LOVE CHUNGHWA. Then close to the finishing line, GOLDEN CANNON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LOVE CHUNGHWA and consequently was not ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Also close to the finishing line, LUCKY SHINY DAY was shifted out away from the heels of HIDDEN SPIRIT.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that he had not been provided with any specific instructions on how LUCKY SHINY DAY should be ridden, rather it was contingent on the manner in which the horse began and the pace of the race in the early stages. He said LUCKY SHINY DAY began very well and he was able to obtain a forward position without having to make too much use of the horse. He said after obtaining a prominent position approaching the winning post on the first occasion, he then steadied his mount and was able to obtain a trailing position behind the leaders. He said LUCKY SHINY DAY travelled satisfactorily until near the 600 Metres at which time the horse came off the bridle and he attributed this to having to race amongst other horses as when LUCKY SHINY DAY was shifted out in the early part of the Straight the horse then finished off the race satisfactorily.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING CIRCLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GODSPEED and LOVE CHUNGHWA were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (716) MOUNT GOUGH HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

After being loaded into the barriers, BEST SMILE became fractious and reared abruptly, resulting in its rider, R Bayliss, being dislodged. As R Bayliss was not fit to fulfil his race riding engagement on BEST SMILE due to injuring his right hand in this incident, BEST SMILE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, BEST SMILE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
EVERBRAVE shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in PRAWN YEAH YEAH being badly crowded for room and taken out onto CASIMIRO which became badly unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by PRAWN YEAH YEAH. In this incident, LAMAROSA, which was racing outside CASIMIRO, also became unbalanced and lost ground after being bumped by that horse which shifted out when bumped on the hindquarters by PRAWN YEAH YEAH. After this incident, PRAWN YEAH YEAH continued to race in restricted room between CASIMIRO and EVERBRAVE.
MY POWER and ISLAND WINNER bumped at the start.
DEMONS ROCK was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover, however, near the 700 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.
After initially being ridden along, MY POWER was steadied near the 900 Metres to obtain cover.
MY POWER got its head on the side and made the turn near the 550 Metres awkwardly. PRAWN YEAH YEAH, which was following MY POWER, was inconvenienced in consequence.
Over the final 200 Metres, THE ABRAXAS hung in and proved very difficult to ride. Then for some time after the 200 Metres, THE ABRAXAS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HONG KONG WIN and consequently was not able to be ridden out for a short distance approaching and passing the 50 Metres. Before being allowed to race again, THE ABRAXAS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend. A veterinary inspection of THE ABRAXAS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the 150 Metres, MY POWER shifted in, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Passing the 75 Metres, IRON BOY was shifted out away from the heels of THE ABRAXAS as that horse hung in across the heels of HONG KONG WIN.
After the race, M Harley expressed concern regarding the action of LAMAROSA. A veterinary inspection of LAMAROSA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, LAMAROSA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of EVERBRAVE, A Domeyer stated that the horse did not travel to the barriers as fluently as it did at its last start when successful. He said for this reason he asked the Veterinary Officer to inspect the horse who reported that he could find no obvious abnormalities with EVERBRAVE. He said as EVERBRAVE freed up in its action behind the barriers, he was comfortable to ride the horse. He said EVERBRAVE then did not show as much early speed as it did at its most recent start and did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He said EVERBRAVE quickened briefly in the early part of the Straight, however, after being shifted to the outside of IRON BOY passing the 250 Metres, then did not continue to quicken as he anticipated it would. He added although EVERBRAVE was not able to obtain clear running over the final 150 Metres, he did not believe that the horse had travelled well and, in his opinion, would have finished marginally in advance of its final finishing position but not in the placings. A veterinary inspection of EVERBRAVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, EVERBRAVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SNAP FIT and DEMONS ROCK were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (717) MOUNT NICHOLSON HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

The Stewards tonight interviewed Mr C Fownes, the trainer of SUPER LUCKY, regarding that horse being withdrawn from this race by order of the Stewards after being inadvertently treated on the morning of Tuesday, 4 June 2019 and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter GOOD FOR YOU (J Moreira). Also interviewed was Mr C K Chung, assistant trainer allocated to Mr Fownes for the current racing season. Mr Fownes was fined the sum of $15,000 for breaching the Rules of Racing in that as the person responsible for all matters pertaining to the running of his stable and the work of the stable staff allocated to him, he failed in the management of his stable as a result of SUPER LUCKY being inadvertently treated and having to be withdrawn from this race on 4 June 2019. Mr Chung was advised that a report would be forwarded to Stables Management regarding his involvement in this matter.
DR RESPECT was also withdrawn on 4.6.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter BLISSFUL EIGHT (K C Leung). Before being allowed to race again, DR RESPECT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On arrival at the Start, HIGH REV was noted to have blood in the mouth. A veterinary inspection of HIGH REV found that horse to have sustained a minor laceration to the mouth and was found to be suitable to race.
Also on arrival at the Start, J Moreira expressed concern regarding the manner in which GOOD FOR YOU cantered to the barriers. GOOD FOR YOU was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, after the necessary consultations, that the horse was suitable to race. A veterinary inspection of GOOD FOR YOU immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD FOR YOU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
CHARITYDREAM shifted out at the start and hampered CALLING THE SHOTS.
RELIABLE TEAM and HIGH REV bumped at the start. After this, from the outside barrier, HIGH REV was shifted across behind runners.
Also from a wide barrier, GOOD FOR YOU was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
CHARITYDREAM lost its left hind plate in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, HERO TIME shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in WINNERS BROTHER, ORIENTAL ELITE and CALLING THE SHOTS being crowded for room outside CHARITYDREAM which got its head on the side and shifted out. This resulted in CALLING THE SHOTS being steadied away from the heels of CHARITYDREAM near the 1150 Metres and ORIENTAL ELITE also losing ground.
After being ridden along to obtain a forward position, THE SHOW was steadied after the 1100 Metres when racing wide, to obtain cover. Then approaching the 1000 Metres, THE SHOW shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of WINNERS BROTHER, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
Passing the 1100 Metres, HERO TIME was awkwardly placed outside CHARITYDREAM which, when being ridden along, got its head on the side and lay out. Then making the turn near the 900 Metres, HERO TIME and COMPASSION STAR were crowded for room between RELIABLE TEAM and CHARITYDREAM.
Near the 1000 Metres, after being corrected when shifting in abruptly, CHARITYDREAM got its head on the side and hung out despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in HERO TIME and COMPASSION STAR being badly hampered when crowded for room inside RELIABLE TEAM. The racing manners of CHARITYDREAM were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHARITYDREAM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier around a bend.
Near the 850 Metres, BLISSFUL EIGHT became unbalanced when racing tight inside CALLING THE SHOTS which was taken in by ORIENTAL ELITE which shifted ground before being directed out to relieve the tightening to BLISSFUL EIGHT. After this, CALLING THE SHOTS raced tight inside ORIENTAL ELITE and then making the turn near the 550 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between PACKING ROCKSTAR which shifted out marginally and ORIENTAL ELITE (A Domeyer) which shifted in. A Domeyer was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leave comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
Also making the turn near the 550 Metres, THE SHOW was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNERS BROTHER which made the turn awkwardly.
Close to the finishing line, ORIENTAL ELITE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HERO TIME which drifted out under pressure.
A veterinary inspection of CALLING THE SHOTS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PACKING ROCKSTAR, RELIABLE TEAM and HERO TIME were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (718) THE CRICKET CLUB VALLEY STAKES (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

DREAM WARRIORS began only fairly.
RIGHTEOUS MATE and THIS ONE’S FOR YOU bumped at the start. RIGHTEOUS MATE was then crowded for room between THIS ONE’S FOR YOU and ENJOY LIFE which shifted in.
KING MORTAR began awkwardly.
SMART PATCH shifted out at the start and bumped FLAME LILY. After this, from a wide barrier, SMART PATCH was shifted across behind runners.
Also from the outside barrier, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING MORTAR. ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was then steadied to obtain a position with cover behind DREAM WARRIORS near the 1300 Metres.
KING MORTAR was left racing wide and without cover after the 1100 Metres and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of KING MORTAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KING MORTAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of KING MORTAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
Near the 450 Metres, FAITHFUL TRINITY was awkwardly placed outside CHARITY WINGS which shifted to the outside of ENJOY LIFE.
Rounding the Home Turn, DREAM WARRIORS was bumped by FAITHFUL TRINITY which attempted to shift to the outside of THIS ONE’S FOR YOU to obtain clear running. Due to FAITHFUL TRINITY being awkwardly placed close to the heels of THIS ONE’S FOR YOU when unable to shift to that horse’s outside, FAITHFUL TRINITY was then shifted to the inside of THIS ONE’S FOR YOU near the 250 Metres to obtain clear running.
Passing the 200 Metres, FAITHFUL TRINITY raced tight between CHARITY WINGS and THIS ONE’S FOR YOU which shifted in.
Near the 50 Metres, FAITHFUL TRINITY and THIS ONE’S FOR YOU bumped.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RIGHTEOUS MATE, A Domeyer stated that his mount did not travel to the Start as strongly as it did when ridden by him in the past. He said RIGHTEOUS MATE began only fairly and then did not show any early speed despite being hard ridden in the early stages. He said RIGHTEOUS MATE travelled only fairly in the race and after shifting in away from the heels of CHARITY WINGS at the entrance to the Straight did not close off the race as he anticipated. He added, in his opinion, RIGHTEOUS MATE raced "flat” tonight. A veterinary inspection of RIGHTEOUS MATE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING and REMARKABLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RIGHTEOUS MATE, SMART PATCH and FLAME LILY were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (719) SHOUSON HILL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

MIGHTY POWER was withdrawn on 4.6.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RIGHT HONOURABLE (M L Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, MIGHTY POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
STIMULATION began only fairly and then was ridden along in the early stages to take up a forward position.
RICKFIELD and ALL YOU KNOW bumped on a number of occasions shortly after the start.
BEAUTY ICON stumbled at the start and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners.
From wide barriers, HEAVENLY THOUGHT and HAPPY WIN WIN were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, CORDYCEPS was slow to muster speed and then after passing the winning post on the first occasion got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERFECT PAIR after being unable to prevent that horse from crossing.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BEAUTY ICON was checked away from the heels of HEAVENLY THOUGHT (M F Poon) which was being steadied to obtain cover behind RICKFIELD. M F Poon was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Passing the 1300 Metres, RICKFIELD shifted out away from the heels of ALL YOU KNOW after being awkwardly placed behind that horse. HAPPY WIN WIN, which was racing outside RICKFIELD and travelling keenly, was taken out by RICKFIELD which at this time was taken out further by ALL YOU KNOW which shifted out away from the heels of JOLLY HONOUR. HEAVENLY THOUGHT, which was following RICKFIELD, commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of that horse, resulting in HEAVENLY THOUGHT running out across the heels of HAPPY WIN WIN near the 1200 Metres. After this, HAPPY WIN WIN was left racing wide and without cover and was allowed to improve its position closer to the lead after the 900 Metres, however, continued to travel wide and without cover and then in the Straight gave ground.
Near the 800 Metres, HEAVENLY THOUGHT was taken wider and without cover by RICKFIELD which shifted out away from the heels of ALL YOU KNOW which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOLLY HONOUR.
At the entrance to the Straight, CORDYCEPS and BIGWOOD raced tight as both horses attempted to improve between PERFECT PAIR and ALL YOU KNOW. This resulted in CORDYCEPS being awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERFECT PAIR approaching and passing the 300 Metres when held up for clear running behind that horse. BIGWOOD also had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 250 Metres.
Passing the 150 Metres, BIGWOOD was shifted to the inside of ALL YOU KNOW which shifted out under pressure.
Approaching the 100 Metres, RICKFIELD shifted out under pressure.
When questioned, J Moreira (PERFECT PAIR) stated that it was anticipated that CORDYCEPS would show early speed and lead the race and PERFECT PAIR would either sit to the outside of that horse or behind CORDYCEPS. He said CORDYCEPS did not show as much speed as was anticipated and when PERFECT PAIR showed superior speed to that horse, he shifted across to lead the race in the early stages. He said when STIMULATION improved its position quickly around PERFECT PAIR after the 1100 Metres, he anticipated that that horse would continue on into the lead and run the race at a good tempo and therefore he elected near the 900 Metres to allow STIMULATION to cross PERFECT PAIR. He said when he did this STIMULATION steadied the tempo in the lead and this resulted in PERFECT PAIR being awkwardly placed behind that horse near the 850 Metres. He said in hindsight he had erred in allowing STIMULATION to cross PERFECT PAIR, however, he anticipated that that horse would dictate the race at a quicker pace than it ultimately did. He said PERFECT PAIR was held up for clear running passing the 300 Metres, however, was then disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding, particularly over the latter stages of the race when the horse gave ground. He added, in his opinion, the horse’s performance could be attributed to the circumstances of the race, however, he was of the belief that PERFECT PAIR did not feel as comfortable in its action as it did when ridden by him in the past. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT PAIR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CORDYCEPS, BIGWOOD and ALL YOU KNOW were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (720) VIOLET HILL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

SPLIT OF A SECOND was withdrawn on 4.6.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter STARLIGHT (T H So). Before being allowed to race again, SPLIT OF A SECOND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUPREME PATROL began only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
BUOYANT BOY shifted out at the start and bumped BALLISTIC KING which was then steadied to obtain a position closer to the rail.
From the outside barrier, STARLIGHT was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.
Near the 1050 Metres, BUOYANT BOY was checked and lost ground when crowded for room between SMART LEADER and HARRIER JET (N Callan) which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the considerable efforts of its rider. As the Stewards were satisfied that N Callan had made sufficient endeavour to prevent HARRIER JET from shifting in, no further action was taken.
Near the 1000 Metres, SUPREME PATROL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BUOYANT BOY as that horse lost ground.
GOLDEN DASH travelled wide and without cover until near the 600 Metres at which time HARRIER JET was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 150 Metres and again near the 50 Metres, JUMBO PRIZE and GOLDEN DASH raced tight.
Passing the 100 Metres, BALLISTIC KING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HARRIER JET when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that he was instructed to lead on SMART LEADER. He said the horse began satisfactorily, however, did not show any early speed and he was obliged to race much further back in the field than had been intended when crossed by STRATHALLAN in the early stages. He said near the 500 Metres SMART LEADER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of STRATHALLAN, however, then came under pressure and he had to ride his mount along to maintain its position. He said he shifted SMART LEADER to the outside of HARRIER JET in the early part of the Straight, however, SMART LEADER did not quicken as he anticipated it would and then finished off the race only fairly over the concluding stages although awkwardly placed inside the heels of BUOYANT BOY. A veterinary inspection of SMART LEADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
When questioned regarding the performance of ELITE PATCH, K C Leung stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily until the 500 Metres when the pace of the race quickened. He said ELITE PATCH immediately came off the bridle and gave ground noticeably rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight. He said he persisted in riding ELITE PATCH until near the 200 Metres, however, having regard to the manner in which the horse was weakening out of the race, he eased it down over the concluding stages as he felt that there may be something amiss with the horse. He added after the race ELITE PATCH did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of ELITE PATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, ELITE PATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GOLDEN DASH at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN DASH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SMART LEADER, GOLDEN DASH and JUMBO PRIZE were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (721) WONG NAI CHUNG GAP HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1800 m

After being loaded into the barriers, HAPPY DRAGON got its head down abruptly and then got out under the front gates, resulting in its rider, U Rispoli, becoming wedged between HAPPY DRAGON and under the front gates. HAPPY DRAGON then proceeded riderless for some distance before being recaptured. Acting on veterinary advice that HAPPY DRAGON was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY DRAGON will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination
From the outside barriers, CHARITY GO and HELENE CHARISMA were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
When being steadied to be shifted across behind runners, CHARITY GO was bumped by CHEFANO shortly after the start.
After initially being ridden along to take up a forward position, MR SO AND SO was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover when MR SO AND SO did not show sufficient speed to cross runners to its inside.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GREEN LUCK was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GLORIOUS ARTIST after being bumped by CHEFANO which shifted in. Then passing the winning post on the first occasion, GREEN LUCK was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DOCTOR GEOFF.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHARITY GO got its head up, proved very difficult to settle and shifted out, hampering MR SO AND SO which was then steadied to obtain cover behind CHARITY GO after the 1300 Metres.
Near the 1100 Metres, GLORIOUS ARTIST got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of NOT USUAL TALENT as that horse was steadied to allow CHEFANO to cross.
K Teetan (CHEFANO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of NOT USUAL TALENT, causing that horse to be unnecessarily hampered when steadied away from the heels of CHEFANO and having to shift out away from the heels of that horse and ultimately causing DOCTOR GEOFF to be crowded for room between NOT USUAL TALENT SHOW and PARTY TOGETHER after the 950 Metres. K Teetan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 23 June 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 27 June 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey K Teetan’s good race riding record.
Approaching the 600 Metres, NOT USUAL TALENT was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of PARTY TOGETHER.
Near the 450 Metres, GLORIOUS ARTIST shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of NOT USUAL TALENT which became unbalanced.
Near the 350 Metres, HELENE CHARISMA was checked away from the heels of CHEFANO which was momentarily awkwardly placed inside PARTY TOGETHER which shifted in after racing tight inside VICTORY BOYS.
NOT USUAL TALENT had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
In the early part of the Straight, DOCTOR GEOFF raced with its head on the side and lay in.
A Domeyer (DOCTOR GEOFF) was advised to exercise more care for allowing his mount to shift out after the 100 Metres and bumping GREEN LUCK and was also reprimanded for failing to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from again shifting out passing the 50 Metres, resulting in GREEN LUCK being hampered.
When GREEN LUCK was shifted out away from the heels of DOCTOR GEOFF close to the finishing line, NOT USUAL TALENT, which was following, was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of that horse. Consequently NOT USUAL TALENT was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that two incidents occurred over the final 100 Metres which cast sufficient doubt as to whether DOCTOR GEOFF should be declared the winner. It was found that passing the 100 Metres DOCTOR GEOFF shifted out and bumped GREEN LUCK. It was further established that passing the 50 Metres DOCTOR GEOFF again shifted out, resulting in GREEN LUCK having to be shifted out away from the heels of that horse. Having regard to the margin between the two horses at the relevant stages of the race and at the end of the race, the Stewards did not believe that had the incidents not occurred GREEN LUCK would have finished in front of DOCTOR GEOFF and therefore the matter did not proceed to a formal objection/protest hearing with weighed-in being semaphored on the Judge’s placings. Whilst it did not have any bearing on the Stewards’ decision not to proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing, it should be noted that neither Jockey Z Purton nor the connections of GREEN LUCK lodged a protest/objection.
When questioned, G van Niekerk (CHARITY GO) stated that from the wide barrier he was asked to relax the horse in the early stages and shift it across behind runners in order to have it finish off the race which it had not been doing in its recent races.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that VICTORY BOYS finished mildly distressed.
DOCTOR GEOFF and GREEN LUCK were sent for sampling.
