Godolphin weekend runners update

Godolphin's trainer James Cummings comments on the stable's runners at Flemington and Rosehill on Saturday.

Race 3 – TBV  Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes-Group 3  (2yoF SWP)       (1200m)

FLIT (AUS) - 2yo Filly by Medaglia d'Oro (USA) out of Glissade (AUS)
“We have had enough time up our sleeve to give her a trial up the straight. She defeated a couple of nice fillies.”

VARDA (AUS) - 2yo Filly by Lonhro (AUS) out of Wild Queen (AUS)
“Varda was an impressive debut winner and I think she’s capable of improving again.”
“Both horses arrive at this race in good order and we expect them both to be extremely competitive. They also offer plenty of scope to mature for next season. “

Race 8 - All-Star Mile (Special Conditions, WFA)       (1600m)

ALIZEE (AUS) - 4yo Filly by Sepoy (AUS) out of Essaouira (AUS)
“We’re delighted with the way both horses are coming into the race. They’re in great shape and both have had a really solid foundation, so they have had the opportunity to absorb those top efforts they delivered in the Futurity three weeks ago.”
“They look perfect for the weekend.”
“In last Saturday’s exhibition gallop, Hugh was able to appreciate the feel of her that he doesn’t normally get, just he and her, they were able to connect that little bit more.”
“Although he’s unbeaten on her this campaign, I was very pleased to hear the positivity and the confidence he was exuding after the gallop.”
“She’s drawn a little bit outside the middle. We can have a look at that, but it doesn’t look like a problem to me.”

HARTNELL (GB) - 8yo Gelding by Authorized (IRE) out of Debonnaire (GB)
“He [William Buick] is a contracted rider to Godolphin and on the big stage it’s pretty important that he gets his opportunity to ride horses like this for Sheikh Mohammed.”
“I can picture him riding Hartnell very well.”
“I think it’s an extremely high-pressure weight-for-age event and for that reason I’m glad both of our horses come into it off a suitably tough foundation.”

Race 2 - Canadian Club Maurice McCarten Stakes-Group 3  (Qlty)       (1100m)

TREKKING (AUS) - 4yo Gelding by Street Cry (IRE) out of Outdoor (AUS)
“Trekking has come into this suitable first-up target off a beautifully executed preliminary.”
“He should be extremely competitive and I’d like to think he’s set for a good campaign.”

Race 3 -  Magic Night Stakes-Group 3  (2yoF SW)       (1200m)

AMERCEMENT (AUS) - 2yo Filly by Lonhro (AUS) out of Forfeiture (AUS)
“She was guilty of getting too far out of her ground in the Sweet Embrace.”
“With blinkers on here she should be able to tack on more comfortably. The 1200m distance and the prospect of cut in the ground will enhance her prospects significantly.”

ATHIRI (AUS) - 2yo Filly by Lonhro (AUS) out of Retsina (AUS)

“Athiri brings very strong form to this race and looks set to go off a nice, three-week break between runs.”
“She won very stylishly at Rosehill last prep and will be right at home going the Sydney way.”

KIAMICHI (AUS) - 2yo Filly by Sidestep (AUS) out of Ouachita (AUS)
“She’s improved on her honest, first-up fourth in the Sweet Embrace Stakes which should be one of the good form lines for this race.”

Race 4 - Bowermans Office Furniture Pago Pago Stakes-Group 3  (2yoCG SW)       (1200m)

JETSKI (AUS) - 2yo Colt by Lonhro (AUS) out of Outdoor (AUS)
“He’s capable based on his sound fourth placing in a maiden on debut at this track a fortnight ago.”
“It will be interesting to see if he has improved enough to be competitive with these better-credentialled horses.”

Race 5 - Chandon S Phar Lap Stakes-Group 2  (3yo SW)       (1500m)

RANIER (AUS) - 3yo Colt by Lonhro (AUS) out of Kanzan (AUS)
“He’s gone ahead since his unplaced effort in the Australian Guineas.”
“His rider was adamant that he didn’t enjoy much luck and there’s no doubt he’s better placed back in this company.”

Race 7 - Coolmore Classic-Group 1  (F&M Qlty)       (1500m)

MANICURE (AUS) - 4yo Filly by Exceed And Excel (AUS) out of Trim (AUS)
“Manicure gives herself the opportunity to prove how strong she can be at the end of 1500m.”
“She’s completely wound up for this and with solid performances over 1400m in Group races where she hasn’t been far away, she’s earned herself the opportunity to compete at Group 1 level with a weight concession.”

POHUTUKAWA (AUS) - 3yo Filly by Medaglia d'Oro (USA) out of Lumina (AUS)
“She hasn’t had clear air since William Buick won on her at Flemington in the spring.”
“It will be wonderful to see this filly get the opportunity in a handicap like the Coolmore Classic on the way through to some three-year-old fillies’ targets.”
“The team feels she can make her presence felt.”

SAVATIANO (AUS) - 4yo Filly by Street Cry (IRE) out of Retsina (AUS)
“Savatiano will proceed on an eight-day backup after a brave second placing in the Newcastle Newmarket.”
“It took a race record finish from Princess Posh to gun her down, and being only second-up on that occasion, she‘ll be able to demonstrate further improvement third-up in a target race.”

Race 8 - Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes-Group 2  (SWP)       (1500m)

MORTON'S FORK (AUS) - 5yo Gelding by Ad Valorem (USA) out of Dilemmas (AUS)
“Morton’s Fork can improve with a seven-day back up, he struggled to sustain a strong gallop over 2000m last time but will be fitter now at his fourth run back form a spell.”
