Mazaz (IRE) In the home straight hung in. Rider Michael Walker was severely reprimanded for breaching the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100 metres. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that the gelding was hanging in, it was a 2530 metre race and the low totality of strikes.

Hush Writer (JPN) Eased down from the 200 metres. Rider Stephen Baster could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Sasko Lost the near hind plate during the event.

Noble Fight Raced keenly passing the 1000 metres when the tempo eased.

Heirborn (NZ) Rider Ben Melham was fined $300 for breaching the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) in that he used his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.

Race 3 VRC member THOMAS DANDIS HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Calzini Began awkwardly with its head up. Held up for clear running from the 400 metres and was then steadied approaching the 200 metres when tightened for room to the inside of Waltonia, which shifted in under pressure before being straightened.

La Volt App Liam Riordan reported that he lost the use of his off side iron passing the 700 metres which placed him at a disadvantage in riding the gelding throughout.

Im Telling Ya Became unbalanced near the 600 metres after shifting in towards La Volt and making contact with that gelding. Disappointed for clear running near the 250 metres when steadied off the heels of Play Master. Again disappointed for clear running passing the 100 metres to the winning post.

Jumbo Ozaki Rider John Allen reported the gelding would benefit from todays event and may be better ridden with more cover than today. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Talented Steadied near the 200 metres when tightened for room by Calzini, which was being taken in by Waltonia. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Jungle Edge Weakened from the 350 metres. Post-race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Jungle Edge shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

He added the mare was disappointing in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horses racing performance. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Wagner Rider Damian Lane reported the gelding may not have been suited by the heavy track conditions and may be better suited over more ground. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Assertive Approach When questioned, rider Dwayne Dunn explained that he was instructed to hold the gelding together for as long as possible as the gelding had indicated in past runs that it is best when ridden in this manner. He added that for this reason he elected to wait as long as possible when The Inevitable came to his outside near the 150m before riding at his most vigorous.
