Other Comments / Explanations:

Apprentice Jack Martin was examined by the doctor after the running of Race 8 and was stood down from fulfilling his remaining engagement.

 

Race 1- Ladbrokes Back Yourself Plate - 1100m:

So Magnifique - slow to begin. Rider Jake Noonan could offer no explanation for the performance but was of the view the colt may benefit from the addition of a tongue tie. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Afrikaans - slow to begin.

That Song - began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

Tank Attack - had to be steadied after jumping away when tightened for room by Celestial King which shifted in. Became unbalanced near the 400m after being brushed by Celestial King which shifted out slightly. Raced greenly and hung in over the concluding stages and as a result was unable to be ridden out fully by rider Brad Rawiller. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Rock Hard - over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Franula - rider Chris Parnham was spoken to advisedly regarding his use of the whip on a horse that was out of contention.

 

Race 2- Le Pine Funerals Handicap - 1100m:

Keep Courting - slow to begin. Had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Another Diamond near the 130m.

Jocasta - slow to begin.

Winspot - raced three wide without cover.

World Of Hope - held up and unable to improve its position from the 400m until the 300m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Another Diamond - had to be steadied near the 130m to avoid the heels of Run Gypsy Run (Beau Mertens) which shifted out when not clear.

Run Gypsy Run - when making ground was disappointed for a run near the 50m between Hear The Chant and Selenia and as a result went to the line not being fully tested.

Monkey Magic - rider Noel Callow reported his mount failed to travel throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Beau Mertens (Run Gypsy Run) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 130m he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of Another Diamond which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Run Gypsy Run. Beau Mertens had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight May 19th and to expire at midnight May 25th, a total of eight provincial race meetings. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and good record and that the carelessness was in the low range.

 

Race 3- The Importer Handicap - 1600m:

Riyadh (NZ) - slow to begin.

He Or She - slow to begin.

Kenjorwood - over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Bel Burgess - raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced in restricted room near the 300m between Jacquinot Bay and Kenjorwood, which when laying in shifted in slightly.

Jacquinot Bay - held up approaching and passing the 300m.

Dylanson - had a tendency to lay in throughout the race.

My Paisann (NZ) - post race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the geldings racing performance and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

 

Race 4- Rod Fenwick Handicap - 1440m:

Miss Vixen - began awkwardly.

Miss Belisa - began awkwardly, shifted out and hampered Moet Rose. Rider Brad Rawiller reported he settled further back than intended and the filly responded only fairly to his riding when placed under pressure. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Moet Rose - hampered at the start.

Platinum Angel - raced three wide without cover.

Tuskar Brook - held up from the 400m until shifting out to gain clear running passing the 200m.

Light Romance - rider Ben Thompson reported that the filly, which was second up, raced flat and would benefit from the run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 5- Heritage Finance Handicap - 1440m:

Castelo - after being fractious in its starting stall underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.

Wayanka - slow to begin.

Curragh (NZ) - slow to begin.

Overstep - raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Jaws Of Steel - raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Maximus - raced three wide without cover.

Kentucky Breeze - raced in restricted room to the inside of Lord Topper (Stephanie Thornton) which, when being ridden along, shifted in over the concluding stages; Stephanie Thornton was advised to exercise more care.

Silvera - approaching the winning post raced in restricted room between Jaws Of Steel and Maximus which when laying in shifted in slightly.

 

Race 6- The Sheen Panel Service Handicap - 1200m:

Bel Sonic - proved difficult to load which delayed the start slightly and must now gain further approval in a jump out prior to racing again.

Golden Key (NZ) - steadied passing the 800m when awkwardly placed on the heels of Vainstream, which being taken in initially by Sun Quan before then continuing towards the rail.  Rider Ben Thompson was notified that when racing in similar circumstances, he should display more discretion to avoid racing so close to heels in future.

Written Choice - raced three wide without cover.

Exceltara - apprentice Liam Riordan inadvertently dropped his reins over the concluding stages.

Wassergeist - rider Linda Meech reported that her mount did not feel comfortable in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 7- Darren Gauci Handicap - 1100m:

Gibbon - late withdrawal by order of Stewards at 3.08pm. Trainer Wendy Kelly pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR59(1)(a) for failing to ensure the correct horse was presented on course. Wendy Kelly was fined the sum of $1000 and in assessing the matter, Stewards took into account her guilty plea, overall excellent record and that she brought the matter to the attention of Stewards after the wrong horse arrived on course. It was established that Fast Cash was inadvertently presented on course and not Gibbon.

Princeton Spirit (NZ) - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3.24pm and being found to be mildly lame in the near foreleg after arriving on course. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Princeton Spirit (NZ) to be refunded.  All successful bets on horses prior to 3.24pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 19 cents, place bets (for winner) - 12 cents, place bets (for 2nd) - 22 cents and place bets (for 3rd) - 13 cents.

Murphys Reward - after being fractious in its starting stall underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.

Onerous - connections advised would be ridden more forward; led. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Wise Hero - apprentice Stephanie Thornton reported that her mount was not suited by todays track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Urban Ruler - apprentice Lachlan King reported that his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 8- Le Pine Funerals Handicap - 2000m:

Procedural - after being fractious in its starting stall underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race which delayed the start of the race slightly.

Im Buxom (NZ) - after being fractious in its starting stall underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race which delayed the start of the race further. Began awkwardly. When the pace slackened near the 1100m, had to be steadied off the heels of Inspirante (FR).

Inspirante (FR) - slow to begin.

Von Mystic - slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery.

Okotoks (NZ) - raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages when over-racing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to have a slow recovery and the thumps.

All Hard Wood - over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Lucky For All (NZ) - after commencing to over-race near the 1100m when the pace slackened, had to be checked off the heels of Boss Tweed.

Casares - when weakening shifted in and tightened the running of Dixie Preacher resulting in Dixie Preacher having to be checked approaching the 400m; rider Linda Meech was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Furrion (GB) - laid in under pressure in the straight.

Under Oath - rider Beau Mertens reported his mount pulled hard in the early and middle stages which in his opinion was detrimental to the gelding finishing the race off.

 

Race 9- Catanachs Jewellers Handicap - 2000m:

The start of this race was delayed slightly due to the late rider change.

Hursley (NZ) - connections advised would be ridden more forward; settled forward of mid-field.

Jaminzah - connections advised would be ridden more forward; settled towards the rear of the field.

Like The Clappers - on jumping away had to be checked when tightened for room between He Ekscels (NZ) which was taken in by Survived (NZ) and Hursley (NZ) which shifted out slightly.

Mongolian Wolf - slow to begin.

Sunday Pray - began awkwardly and shifted out.

Patch Adams - raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages, four wide without cover.

Bullish Stock (NZ) - near the 400m raced in restricted room between Sunday Pray and Like The Clappers.

Like The Clappers - rider Daniel Moor was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to finish of the race.

He Ekscels (NZ) - rider Brian Park could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Noumea (IRE) - rider Jake Noonan was of the view his mount would be better suited over further distance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Tiffanys Lass - trainer Danny Laws reported that the mare had pulled up well and will continue its preparation.

Winkelmann - the stable reported that the mare had pulled up well but may have been affected by the previous hard run at Flemington. It is the intention to lighten up the mares work and then make a decision on its preparation.
