KOREA: Busan Racecourse – Friday January 4, 2019
Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
Maiden fillies to kick off the New Year at Busan and a couple of them have shown promise. (4) HALLA HWANGHU is the slight pick, registering a 5th and a 4th from two outings to date, both at this distance. She’s well drawn to get on pace early here and can win. Both (5) MISS FACT’s efforts so far have been at 1300M and she ran well enough for (an admittedly distant) 3rd last time five weeks ago. She drops back in trip here and it can suit. (3) AMAZING WINNER was a similar well-beaten 3rd last time at 1300M but also showed improvement and can continue that today. (6) TWO TWO FIRE put in an encouraging debut in November and is another who can go well. (9) RAON ARES, 5th behind Halla Hwangu, should also be in contention to get better.
|Selections||(4) Halla Hwanghu (5) Miss Fact (3) Amazing Winner (6) Two Two Fire|
|Next Best||9, 8|
|Fast Start||4, 7, 9, 12|
Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
This one is restricted to maidens who have just turned three-years-old. (1) HAPPY GATE has been a touch inconsistent across four outings so far but looked to be getting things together with a 3rd place over 1300M last start. He drops back in trip today and can win. (3) TWO TWO SPINO ran poorly last time to the extent that he got sent back to trial. He looked a completely different prospect in that trial, however, winning it in a fast time and can go much better today. (8) FOREVER NINE was similarly green on debut in November but he too looked much better when subsequently trialling and can be given another chance here. (6) RINGING FLYING and (7) ACE CRUSH others in contention.
|Selections||(1) Happy Gate (3) Two Two Spino (8) Forever Nine (7) Ace Crush|
|Next Best||6, 5|
|Fast Start||1, 6, 7, 8|
Race 3: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
More three-year-old maidens. Seven of the twelve have raced before and among them, (9) SEOBU CAT is the pick. He was expected to win on debut but having led for much of the race, just ran out of steam in the closing stages. He surely puts it right today. (3) BEAUTIFUL MARINE did nothing wrong when 3rd on her own debut last month and can go well again while (8) YEONGGWANGUIFORCE can also improve. Among the five first-time starters, (2) TWO TWO SIMON and (4) BIGROADIJI look the most likely to make an immediate impression.
|Selections||(9) Seobu Cat (3) Beautiful Marine (2) Two Two Simon (8) Yeonggwanguiforce|
|Next Best||4, 5|
|Fast Start||7, 9, 11, 12|
Race 4: Class 4 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
Competitive race here that’s open to foreign as well as Korean-bred horses. (7) QUICK MOVE is a winner of two from three and is up in class having prevailed over this distance last time in a tight finish. He’ll look to lead early here and has every chance of winning again. (9) WINNING AGAIN comes in having run 2nd to the very useful Spot over 1200M four weeks ago and looks to be the main danger. (3) GENERAL was just over a length back in 4th that day and should be close again. (5) MUPAE CHARLIE has offered glimpses of ability over just two outings so far while (10) THUNDER DOME has gone through two trials since a disappointing effort in November and is another to consider here.
|Selections||(7) Quick Move (9) Winning Again (10) Thunder Dome (5) Mupae Charlie|
|Next Best||3, 11|
|Fast Start||5, 7, 9, 10|
Race 5: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million
Back to the maidens here and (3) B.K. THUNDER has as good a chance as any of shedding that tag. He ran 2nd at the distance in November and his 6th place on his latest start was in tougher company than this. He should get forward early and it could be his day. There is only one debut-maker here and it’s a potentially nice looking one. It’s taken (9) IGGYDA a while to get to the track but the gelding looked sharp when trialling in early December and could well be the principle danger. (7) WILD CASH hasn’t been too far away of late and should be looking to at least match her best finish of 3rd. (2) GOLDEN REX and (11) CHEONJI KINGS others in at least the placing hunt.
|Selections||(9) Iggyda (3) B.K. Thunder (7) Wild Cash (11) Cheonji Kings|
|Next Best||2, 8|
|Fast Start||2, 3, 9, 11|
Race 6: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
Three-year-old maidens only and it’s the weakest of the day so far. That means that (9) CHEONSANG OREUM, who struggled against tougher company over a mile on December 7th, has every chance of going much better here. She led that day and should lead again. Three of these raced each other at this distance that same day. (4) I AM CHAMPION came out the best of them, finishing 4th but 6th placed (8) FOX COLORING underachieved in that race and can go better here. (2) WONDERFUL SUPAH didn’t exactly distinguish himself on debut but jockey booking catches the eye and he may improve. (3) YEONGBONGSAN is another with scope to improve.
|Selections||(9) Cheonsang Oreum (8) Fox Coloring (4) I Am Champion (2) Wonderful Supah|
|Next Best||3, 1, 10|
|Fast Start||7, 8, 9|
Race 7: Class 6 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million
Four of these raced each other at class and distance on December 7th and it was (3) BAENGNICHONG who came out on top by some margin, finishing 2nd. He led close to home and will take some beating today – he could well be the day’s shortest-priced favourite. Of the ones behind him that day, (1) ALBERT KING probably has the best chance of improving but it’s more likely that the main dangers – such that there are – didn’t run in that race. (4) MARU JJANG ran 3rd on her most recent outing at this distance, one place ahead of (6) KWAEHAN SINGANGJA. Both have placing claims here. (7) GOLD TREE has steadily improved across three outings to date and tries this distance for the first time. It may suit.
|Selections||(3) Baengnichong (7) Gold Tree (4) Maru Jjang (6) Kwaehan Singangja|
|Next Best||1, 2|
|Fast Start||3, 6|
Race 8: Class 5 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million
A winner of one from three so far, (8) PRECEDE is from Busan’s top stable and steps up to a mile for the first time. He shouldn’t have too many problems getting to the front here and is the one they’ll need to beat. (4) BRIAN PARK comes in after a solid 3rd place at class and distance on December 2nd and has the best chance of stopping the favourite, although (2) POWER WINDY, another who steps up to this distance for the first time, is another who can challenge. (3) GOLDEN JOY beat a couple of these last start, one of them (7) SANGSEUNG DAEHAN. The latter has gone on to run creditably since and both can be in the hunt for at least a place here.
|Selections||(8) Precede (4) Brian Park (2) Power Windy (7) Sangseung Daehan|
|Next Best||3, 1|
|Fast Start||7, 8|
Race 9: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
(9) ROYAL TREE remains a maiden after twelve attempts, having kept on running into useful horses. He was 2nd, a full seven lengths behind a good winner at the end of November and today could finally be his day. It won’t be easy once more, however. (6) DOCTOR CHIC got promoted to this class off the back of two runner-up finishes and ran a useful 5th on his first try at this level on December 14th. He can get closer today. A couple of starts ago, he beat (3) JEONSAUI JILJU, who is up in class herself having gone on to score her maiden victory. There’s no reason why she can’t be competitive at this level. (2) TRIPLE SILVER comes in having run 4th in each of his latest three and should at least match today (7) SHARP BELL another who can get close.
|Selections||(9) Royal Tree (6) Doctor Chic (3) Jeonsaui Jilju (2) Triple Silver|
|Next Best||7, 10|
|Fast Start||3, 6|
Race 10: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(4) GLITTER only managed 3rd place when favourite on his first try at this class three weeks ago. He’s won at the distance already though and can be fancied to get closer today, likely leading from the start. (6) ALPHA RUNNER comes in having run 2nd to the freakish New Legend over 1800M. Prior to that he ran 3rd in the Gyeongnam DoMin Ilbo Cup at 1200M and is the main danger. (1) GYEONGJUUI DUREBAK is two races into a comeback following six months off and has put in promising efforts in both starts back. Back up in trip today, she can go close. (5) SUPER GOLD tries the distance for the first time and has potential to go well while (10) STORM GOLD is up in class following too many near-misses at class 5 and ran well at this distance last time.
|Selections||(4) Glitter (6) Alpha Runner (1) Gyeongjuui Durebak (10) Storm Gold|
|Next Best||5, 8|
|Fast Start||4, 10|
Race 11: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(8) AMAZON YEOGEOL is two for two so far and comes in up in class and distance today. She carries a nice light weight though and it’s not impossible she could maintain her 100% record. (11) TROPHY COLLECTOR took a little longer to make his breakthrough, but he comes in here having won his latest two in good fashion. He too is up in class and distance but should also be competitive. (4) CURLIN FANTASY remains a maiden, but he’s run well in decent company so far and surely has wins in him sooner rather than later. (3) CHOEGANG BULLET ran well on his return from almost six months off in December and will be a big danger too. (10) WONDERFUL STORY is a proven money winner in this kind of company and has placing claims again.
|Selections||(8) Amazon Yeogeol (4) Curlin Fantasy (3) Choegang Bullet (10) Wonderful Story|
|Next Best||11, 9|
|Fast Start||3, 4, 8, 11|
Race 12: Class 1 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million
The first class 1 of the year sees (10) WORLD DAY seeking to make it seven wins from eight starts. He’s up to this level for the first time but has won at the distance already and under a very light weight, should oblige. Four of these raced each other at this class over 2000M on December 7th. (1) GOLD BLUE came out on top that day, finishing in 2nd place and she should be a danger again. 3rd in that race was (7) WORLD SUN. The Ministers Cup winner is another who finds himself very nicely weighted and could get close. Top weight (11) DORAON HYEONPYO ran a close 2nd to Captain Force last start having led for most of the race and can be a threat once more. (9) GOOD CASTING potentially best of the rest.
|Selections||(10) World Day (7) World Sun (1) Gold Blue (11) Doraon Hyeonpyo|
|Next Best||9, 4|
|Fast Start||5, 6, 10, 11|
Race 13: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million
(5) WIDAEHAN BISANG has won four of five so far and returns up in class eleven weeks after a facile score over 1000M. In late November, however, she absolutely blitzed a trial in double-quick time and is surely the one they’ll need to beat here. (7) HANEOL GONGJU is enters having won at class and distance last time out, beating a couple of these along the way. He carries an additional 3kg today but is a threat. The experienced (9) VEGA ONE ran a good 4th on what was his first try at this level on November 30th and he could push for an even higher finish today. (2) SMART DANCER and (11) LUCKY KOREA are other potential dangers.
|Selections||(5) Widaehan Bisang (7) Haneol Gonju (9) Vega One (11) Lucky Korea|
|Next Best||2, 4|
|Fast Start||5, 7, 11|
