Preview and form for Scottsville
18 Jun 2017 | By Andrew Harrison - goldcircle.co.za

Form for Gold Circle's meeting at Scottsville on Sunday. Selections by Andrew Harrison…

Race 1
Preview: Mostly first timers. Of those that have run, FIRST CRUSADE has shown up well in both starts and was a beaten favourite last time out. He can make amends. MAGIC SAILOR was a distant third at his second outing but the winners was well clear. He can do better here. TOLTEC has run two fair races over further from tricky draws. He took on open company last start. He can go close here. GOLDEN PHEASANT was a fair fourth on debut and should come on from that. (Andrew Harrison: 5-10-12-7).

Race 2
Preview: ANCESRTY was a close-up second in a competitive feature event last time out. He should be hard to beat in this company. TEXAS SKY steps up to watch should be a more suitable trip and made a fair sprint debut. RED INVADER found good long shot support on debut and may be worth watching. SIR BERNADINI makes his debut over a mile but may be worth watching in the market. (Andrew Harrison: 1-9-6-8).

Race 3
Preview: ESTEEMAL has been placed in all three starts and a beaten favourite at her last two. There don’t look to be too many spooks in this field and rates a strong chance. OLIVE MAY raced green on debut on the poly. She is sure to come on from that showing and is a possible threat. ROY’S ZARA improved at her second start on the poly. She is likely to come on from that effort. ROY’S HOT ASH showed some improvement when stepping up in trip and can do even better here. (Andrew Harrison: 4-6-10-9).

Race 4
Preview: Weak field and open. SHANDY has had two sprints and was not far back. She could prefer this trip. BREAKING BARRIERS was green in her debut sprint but was not far back. She should prefer this trip and looks set to improve. ARCTIC MAID has not been too far back in her two starts and jumps from a favourable draw. DUNDRUM has some useful form over the distance but returns from a lengthy break and has a tough draw to contend with. Can go close if near ready. (12-13-10-4).

Race 5
Preview: IRISH PRIDE was a game winner of the Wolf Power Stakes last time out beating the classy Rafeef. The stable is in good form of late and he should go close. TABLE BAY needed his last run over a distance possibly too short. Better this trip and will feature on best effort. BARITONE has shown up nicely in two local outings and will be at his peak. He too rates a strong chance. FIFTY CENTS did not enjoy the poly last run. Handy weight with claiming apprentice up and can feature. (Andrew Harrison: 3-1-2-8).

Race 6
Preview: Tough race. RUSSIAN GIRL has been in good form and goes well over course and distance. She should be right there. RAINBOWINTHESKY is also holding form well and did improve in blinkers. She could be at best over this trip. RIVER AYRE has yet to finish out of the money since being tried in blinkers and has done well over course and distance. IF ONLY was an easy maiden winner last start and has improved in blinkers. She can follow up. (Andrew Harrison: 14-2-7-11).

Race 7
Preview: Seriously difficult affair with the list of possible winners a long one. GIRL ON THE RUN and WITCHCRAFT are both Vodacom Durban July entries and will need to win to have a chance on making the field. Witchcraft is best in at the weights but has only her second outing after a lengthy break. Girl On The Run goes this trip for the first time but the stable is in good form. There seems to be little between ZAFIRA and PATCHIT UP BABY although the latter has the better recent form. SILVER STRIPE stays well but has it tough at the weights. Ironically this is a tough race for three-year-olds but EPONA can do better than her Woolavington effort and has a chance. (Andrew Harrison: 2-4-3-1)

Race 8
Preview: MR WINSOME was supplemented for the Vodacom Durban July but will need to win this to have any chance on making the final field. He has won well over course and distance. HELDERBERG BLUE is one of the unluckiest horses in racing and is due a decent win. He is well weighted here and rates a strong chance. OVIDIO is also well in at these weights and can do much better than his last start. CAPTAIN SPLENDID came god at his last start and although not well in at these weights he does stay the trip well. (Andrew Harrison: 4-3-1-2).

Race 9
Preview: SILENT OBSESSION is a winner without a penalty after losing his last start on an objection. He has come well of late and can make amends. UNDER THE ROSE is a filly taking on males but she seldom runs a bad race. She tries this trip for the first time. There seems to little between FESTIVAL STAR and HANDSOME HARVEY and they stay well while MAGESH’S JET was much improved at his second outing and can still improve on that showing. (Andrew Harrison: 2-11-12-4)
