Bolger star Dexterity misses Expert Eye clash at Newmarket
13 Oct 2017 |

Hot favourite Expert Eye will face eight rivals when he puts his unbeaten record on the line in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarlet on Saturday.

But Jim Bolger, who has landed the Newmarket contest five times since 2006, does not run National Stakes winner Verbal Dexterity, who had been the 9-2 second favourite. Stablemate Theobald lines up instead.

Expert Eye leapt to the top of the betting for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas with a devastating success in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in August and was an odds-on shot in the ante-post market for this step up to Group 1 company.

The colt will be bidding to give Sir Michael Stoute only his second Dewhurst win, after Ajdal in 1986.

Aidan O'Brien is aiming for his fourth victory in five years on Saturday, and sixth overall. He has declared U S Navy Flag, Seahenge, Threeandfourpence and Mendelssohn.

Favourite John Constable has been drawn in stall seven for Saturday's Betfred Cesarewitch, next door to fellow fancy Who Dares Wins, who is in eight. Rolling Maul and Percy Veer are the two reserves outside the 34-runner field.
