Ribchester back to winning ways to set up QEII repeat bid
11 Sep 2017 | Racingpost.com

Ribchester put his shock Sussex Stakes reverse behind him with a determined win in the Group 1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (1600m) at Chantilly on Sunday.

Beaten by Here Comes When at Goodwood last month, Ribchester raced on the outside of the leader Robin Of Navan before taking it up with two furlongs to run.

The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Taareef emerged as the prime challenger but Ribchester found plenty under pressure and was always holding his rival as he landed a fourth Group 1 win.

There was a fine effort too from Massaat, who followed up his Hungerford Stakes win with a third-placed effort.

Ribchester's delighted trainer Richard Fahey confirmed a return to Ascot, the scene of his Queen Anne Stakes win earlier this year, is now on the agenda for the QEII Stakes on British Champions Day next month and also revealed connections will also discuss a potential trip to Del Mar for the Breeders' Cup Mile.

"He doesn’t do much in front and gets a bit wayward, but that was a good performance today," said Fahey. "He coped with the ground but he’s definitely better on a sounder surface given the choice.

The QEII is now the definite target, and if he was mine I would definitely think about running him in the Breeders’ Cup Mile a couple of weeks later, but we’ll discuss that with his entourage."

Betfair cut Ribchester to 9-4 (from 7-2) for the QEII Stakes.
