BINGO began only fairly.
Passing the 400 Metres, RIVERSIDE BIRD was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CHAPARRAL STAR which shifted out.
HOT KING PRAWN and BINGO were sent for sampling.

Race: 2 (734) BEAS RIVER COUNTRY CLUB HANDICAP Class 5 1800 m
SUPERNATURAL and CASH COURIER bumped heavily at the start. SUPERNATURAL, which became unbalanced, then shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of HOLY UNICORN which also became unbalanced.
Shortly after the start, TRUE COMMENT shifted out and bumped AEROLUMINANCE.
From wide barriers, SWEET BEAN and MY FOLKS were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 1500 Metres, GOLDEN PARTNERS was left racing wide and without cover.
After the 1500 Metres, LIGHTNING AND GOLD was steadied away from the heels of DRAGON BACHELOR (H W Lai) which shifted in when not properly clear. H W Lai was advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
HOLY UNICORN lost its left front plate near the 1300 Metres.
Passing the 1200 Metres, HIGH SPEED METRO commenced to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AEROLUMINANCE.
Near the 1150 Metres, SUPERNATURAL shifted out away from the heels of HIGH SPEED METRO and bumped HOLY UNICORN.
Near the 550 Metres, CASH COURIER was steadied away from the heels of TRUE COMMENT after attempting to improve between that horse and GOLDEN PARTNERS where there was insufficient room.
Passing the 550 Metres, SUPERNATURAL dipped.
After the race, W M Lai reported that TRUE COMMENT came under heavy pressure prior to the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight commenced to give ground. He said when placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight, the horse’s head carriage lowered and it did not appear to be comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of TRUE COMMENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, TRUE COMMENT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that AEROLUMINANCE had sustained a small wound to the outside of the right hock.
A veterinary inspection of CASH COURIER and SUPER SWEET ORANGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
AEROLUMINANCE and LIGHTNING AND GOLD were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (735) LEVADE HANDICAP Class 4 1400 m
TELECOM TITAN was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of PENZANCE which, after being fractious in the barriers, began only fairly and then was bumped by EXPERTO CREDE which shifted in.
AMBITIOUS PINS was crowded for room on jumping between HAR HAR HEART which shifted out and GOOD METHOD (Apprentice H T Mo) which shifted in marginally. GOOD METHOD then continued to shift in when being ridden along, resulting in HAR HAR HEART being steadied away from the heels of that horse a short distance later. Apprentice Mo was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he exercises due care when riding his mounts along from the start. After this, AMBITIOUS PINS was shifted across behind runners.
Also from the outside barriers, VIVA COUNCIL and MONEY WINNER were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail.
At the entrance to the Straight, TELECOM TITAN (H W Lai) shifted out and bumped MONEY WINNER which became unbalanced. H W Lai was reprimanded and advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have done more to correct his mount prior to TELECOM TITAN making contact with MONEY WINNER.
Passing the 400 Metres, SUPERIOR BOY was shifted in to obtain clear running after being disappointed for a run between GOOD METHOD and EXPERTO CREDE.
Throughout the race, HAR HAR HEART travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, U Rispoli stated that he was instructed to ride VIVA COUNCIL quietly in the early stages as the horse had previously shown a propensity to hang out in its races. He said making the turn after the 900 Metres VIVA COUNCIL immediately commenced to get its head on the side and hang out. He said he followed AMBITIOUS PINS in the middle stages whilst VIVA COUNCIL continued to hang out and he was reluctant to allow the horse to shift to the outside of AMBITIOUS PINS as he felt that it would hang out more. He said passing the 500 Metres he rode his mount along to have it improve its position and VIVA COUNCIL shifted out a number of horses and proved very difficult to ride. He said he was unable to change his whip over into his right hand as the horse was hanging to the extent that he was reluctant to loosen the right rein as he believed the horse would shift out abruptly. He added approaching the 300 Metres VIVA COUNCIL again shifted out a number of horses which resulted in him having to attempt to straighten the horse and then ride it out as best as he was able in the Straight whilst the horse continued to hang out. The racing manners of VIVA COUNCIL were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VIVA COUNCIL will be required to perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials around a bend.
After the race, J Moreira (PENZANCE) stated that, in his opinion, the horse, which was having its first race start, did not handle today’s track conditions. A veterinary inspection of PENZANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PENZANCE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PENZANCE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SILVERFIELD and GOOD METHOD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
METALLIC STAR and EXPERTO CREDE were sent for sampling.

Race: 4 (736) OI SUEN HANDICAP Class 4 1650 m
BEAUTY FLARE was withdrawn on 17.6.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore tendon injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CAPE THE FAITH (N Callan). Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY FLARE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MY GIFT was slow to begin.
UNIQUE JOYOUS began only fairly and then, despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed.
From a wide barrier, RED HORSE was steadied in the early stages, however, throughout the race travelled wide and without cover.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, UNIQUE JOYOUS and SURE PEACE raced tight.
After the 1400 Metres, IMPERIAL CONCORDE raced tight inside ROCK THE TREE.
In the early stages, BOLSHOI BALLET (Apprentice M F Poon) travelled wide and without cover and after the 1100 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead. Near the 900 Metres, BOLSHOI BALLET was steadied after shifting in to race outside FIVE STARS AGENT, resulting in SUPER TALENT (U Rispoli) and SPICY KAKA, which were following, being hampered. Apprentice Poon was warned against the practice of slackening the tempo too abruptly which does not allow other riders the opportunity to adjust to the change in tempo. When questioned, U Rispoli stated that after having to be checked away from the heels of BOLSHOI BALLET, SUPER TALENT shifted out which resulted in SPICY KAKA quickly improving its position inside SUPER TALENT and causing SUPER TALENT to then race wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. He added SUPER TALENT came under heavy pressure shortly after this incident and, despite being ridden along, did not close off the race. A veterinary inspection of SUPER TALENT immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg. The performance of SUPER TALENT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER TALENT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Passing the 400 Metres, WINASWEWISH was shifted out away from the heels of ROCK THE TREE.
Passing the 200 Metres, FIVE STARS AGENT was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of NAMJONG INVINCIBLE which lay in.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CAPE THE FAITH had bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of SPICY KAKA and BOLSHOI BALLET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
NAMJONG INVINCIBLE and SURE PEACE were sent for sampling.

Race: 5 (737) SHA TIN CLUBHOUSE HANDICAP Class 4 1200 m
NOBLE DE BOY, which was fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly and lost ground.
SO GENEROUS began only fairly.
LONDON MASTER shifted out at the start and bumped CAREFREE LET GO.
From a wide barrier, OHANA was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 600 Metres, CAREFREE LET GO became unbalanced when bumped on a number of occasions by NOBLE DE BOY (Apprentice M F Poon) which improved into tight running between CAREFREE LET GO and SO GENEROUS. Apprentice Poon was advised that whilst the Stewards encourage riders to improve their position where possible, they must do so whilst exercising due care.
About the 400 Metres, LONDON MASTER (C Schofield) was shifted out to improve into tight running between EVER STRONG and ZERO HEDGE which shifted in marginally. In this incident, LONDON MASTER and ZERO HEDGE bumped, resulting in ZERO HEDGE, in particular, becoming unbalanced. C Schofield was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Near the 350 Metres, STARSHIP, when endeavouring to improve into tight running inside OUR FOLKS, was steadied when OUR FOLKS lay in marginally. STARSHIP was then shifted out across the heels of OUR FOLKS to obtain clear running.
After the race, J Moreira stated that whilst ZERO HEDGE was somewhat disappointing in its failure to finish off the race, he believed that the horse having to race wide and without cover for the majority of the race on a rain affected track and at only its second race start were the factors which impacted upon its finishing effort. A veterinary inspection of ZERO HEDGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ZERO HEDGE, STARSHIP and OUR FOLKS were sent for sampling.

Race: 6 (738) FORTUNE ROOM HANDICAP Class 3 1800 m
MCQUEEN began awkwardly and lost ground.
MISTER MONTE and AMAZING AGILITY bumped at the start. Then from the outside barriers, MISTER MONTE and AMAZING AGILITY were shifted across behind runners.
ENSURING was crowded for room on jumping between UP AND COMING and LOTUS STRIKES BACK which was bumped and taken out by GORGEOUS AGAIN.
After the 1500 Metres, MISTER MONTE was ridden along to maintain its position inside VICTORY BOYS after being reluctant to remain racing inside that horse.
Passing the 600 Metres, ENSURING and LOTUS STRIKES BACK raced tight as ENSURING shifted out.
Passing the 400 Metres, MCQUEEN and UP AND COMING raced tight.
Approaching the 300 Metres, U Rispoli (MISTER MONTE) dropped his whip.
Throughout the race, AMAZING AGILITY travelled wide and without cover.
Apprentice M F Poon (VICTORY BOYS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 50 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GORGEOUS AGAIN, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. Apprentice Poon was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 9 July 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 13 July 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
When questioned, K C Leung stated that after having to make no use of GORGEOUS AGAIN in the early and middle stages and as the horse had a light weight, he shifted GORGEOUS AGAIN out away from the heels of UP AND COMING passing the 700 Metres as that horse was being niggled along and he did not want GREEN DISPATCH, which had enjoyed a soft lead, to gain too much of an advantage over GORGEOUS AGAIN. He said although this resulted in GORGEOUS AGAIN racing three wide and without cover, he believed it was in the horse’s best interests to improve at this time so that GORGEOUS AGAIN was able to be as close as possible to GREEN DISPATCH rounding the Home Turn.
A veterinary inspection of AMAZING AGILITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
VICTORY BOYS and GREEN DISPATCH were sent for sampling.

Race: 7 (739) HAPPY VALLEY CLUBHOUSE HANDICAP Class 3 1650 m
TRAVEL FIRST was withdrawn on 17.6.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind). Before being allowed to race again, TRAVEL FIRST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HEHA BOY began only fairly and shortly after the start raced tight inside WILLIE WAY which was taken in by WHITE MAGIC.
CELESTIAL ARROW began awkwardly.
From the outside barrier, LUCKY DAY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, WHITE MAGIC was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRAND HARBOUR.
CELESTIAL ARROW got its head on the side and lay out for some distance approaching and passing the 1400 Metres.
HEHA BOY lost its right front plate after the 800 Metres.
Near the 450 Metres, GRAND HARBOUR raced tight between DEJA VU and RED MARVEL.
For some distance after the 400 Metres, WILLIE WAY was held up for clear running after attempting to improve between WHITE MAGIC and TURIN PEARL where there was insufficient room. WILLIE WAY was then shifted to the outside of TURIN PEARL after the 300 Metres to obtain clear running.
When questioned, Apprentice H N Wong stated that after being instructed to go forward on DEJA VU, he was left racing four wide and without cover in the early stages. He said after the 1000 Metres he rode his mount forward of TURIN PEARL to cross that horse in an attempt to race in a three wide position. He said he had to ride DEJA VU along for some distance to achieve this as the horse took some time to be in a position to cross TURIN PEARL. He said after crossing that horse near the 800 Metres he continued to ride DEJA VU along as he did not want that horse, which had taken some riding, to lose ground in front of TURIN PEARL which would result in that horse being awkwardly placed behind DEJA VU. He said for this reason he continued to niggle at his horse until after making the turn near the 700 Metres at which time he was able to briefly stop riding. Apprentice Wong was advised that whilst the Stewards took no issue with him riding DEJA VU forward of TURIN PEARL to obtain a position closer to the rail, they were of the view that in the circumstances he should have attempted to steady DEJA VU so that that horse did not have to be continually ridden along. He was further advised that the Stewards were also of the opinion that there appeared to be no indication that DEJA VU was going to lose ground in front of TURIN PEARL and cause interference to that horse and therefore he must, wherever possible, ride his mounts in such a manner so that they can finish off their race as best as they are able.
After the race, J Moreira reported that RED MARVEL, on the wet slow surface today, was challenged in the lead by GRAND HARBOUR which was unlike at its most recent start when the horse was able to enjoy an easier lead. He said because of the circumstances of the race RED MARVEL did not finish off the race as expected. A veterinary inspection of RED MARVEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GIANT TURTLE and GRAND HARBOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RED MARVEL, WILLIE WAY and TURIN PEARL were sent for sampling.

Race: 8 (740) THE MEMBERS CUP (HANDICAP) Class 3 1200 m
ARM RUNDA and PERFECT CHOICE began only fairly.
FIONESAY shifted out at the start and bumped MYTHICAL EMPEROR, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and FIONESAY shifting in and hampering WINNING FAITH. After this, from a wide barrier, WINNING FAITH was shifted across behind runners.
JUMBO LUCK and STAR OF JOY bumped at the start.
Making the first turn near the 900 Metres, ARM RUNDA commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of BRAVE LEGEND.

Near the 350 Metres, ARM RUNDA was shifted in away from the heels of HAIR TRIGGER.
Throughout the race, MYTHICAL EMPEROR travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of MYTHICAL EMPEROR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MYTHICAL EMPEROR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. DRAGON GENERAL, which was fractious in the barriers, threw its head back as the start was effected and consequently was very slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON GENERAL will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. In this incident, Apprentice H N Wong was struck in the face by the head of DRAGON GENERAL.
HOUSE OF FUN began only fairly.
TURF SPRINT shifted out at the start and bumped LITTLE GIANT.
From the outside barriers, LEAN AMBASSADOR and BULB ELITE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Apprentice H T Mo (SHAMAL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LUCKY DOLLAR which was taken in across the running of MOMENTUM LUCKY which was steadied and in turn shifted in, crowding the room of LITTLE GIANT. In this incident, LUCKY DOLLAR struck the heels of SHAMAL near the 850 Metres and became unbalanced. Apprentice Mo was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 25 June 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 29 June 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Apprentice Mo was fined $15,000.
Approaching the 800 Metres, LITTLE GIANT commenced to prove difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of MOMENTUM LUCKY, resulting in FLYING TOURBILLON being taken wider.
LUCKY DOLLAR got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn.
DRAGON GENERAL lost its left front plate after the 400 Metres.
For the majority of the race, FLYING TOURBILLON travelled wide and without cover.
