CLEVER SPIRIT began only fairly.
MEGATRON shifted in on jumping and bumped HAPPY AND HEALTHY.
From wide barriers, RUBY COAST and VARA PEARL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, INDUSTRIALIST WAY was steadied when crowded for room between MEGATRON which shifted out marginally and MR KOOL which got its head on the side and lay in.
MEGATRON got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied passing the 1300 Metres. Then approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, MEGATRON continued to travel keenly and again got its head up when awkwardly placed behind MR KOOL.
Passing the 800 Metres, HAPPY AND HEALTHY momentarily raced tight inside MEGATRON which got its head on the side and shifted in of its own accord despite the efforts of its rider.
After the race, B Prebble stated that MR KOOL, which weakened in the Straight, raced like a tired horse. Mr W Y So, the trainer of MR KOOL, advised the Stewards that it was his intention to spell the horse following tonight’s disappointing run. A veterinary inspection of MR KOOL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CLEVER SPIRIT and UNIQUE HAPPIEST were sent for sampling.

Race: 2 (726) D'AGUILAR HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m
GREAT JOY began awkwardly and lost ground.
MUTUAL JOY shifted out at the start and bumped ACCLAIMED LIGHT.
G-ONE UNION was crowded for room on jumping between VICTORY FOLLOW ME which began very awkwardly and shifted in abruptly and SPINNING DANCER which was taken out by AMAZING ALWAYS. In this incident, AMAZING ALWAYS became unbalanced after bumping SPINNING DANCER. After this, from the outside barrier, VICTORY FOLLOW ME was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. After being ridden along for a short distance, G-ONE UNION was also steadied from a wide barrier and shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SPINNING DANCER was left racing wide and without cover and after the 1300 Metres was steadied to the rear of the field to obtain cover.
GREAT JOY got its head up on a number of occasions passing the 1200 Metres when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PREMIUM CHAMPION.
Passing the 900 Metres, a number of horses were ridden along to improve their positions which included VICTORY FOLLOW ME which for the remainder of the race travelled wide and without cover.
After initially being directed to the outside of PREMIUM CHAMPION approaching the 800 Metres, GREAT JOY was then shifted back to the inside of that horse a short distance later due to PREMIUM CHAMPION shifting out.
Passing the 800 Metres, G-ONE UNION, which was attempting to improve around ACCLAIMED LIGHT, was bumped by that horse which shifted out.
W M Lai (PREMIUM CHAMPION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GREAT JOY, resulting in that horse being crowded for room and being checked after the 400 Metres. W M Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 1 July 2017 and to expire on Monday, 10 July 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Lai’s good race riding record.
Approaching the 100 Metres, ACCLAIMED LIGHT shifted in under pressure.
Near the 75 Metres, G-ONE UNION was shifted out away from the heels of VICTORY FOLLOW ME to improve. G-ONE UNION then raced in restricted room over the concluding stages between VICTORY FOLLOW ME and SPINNING DANCER and passing the winning post had to be steadied when crowded for room inside SPINNING DANCER (U Rispoli) which shifted in. U Rispoli was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 50 Metres, PREMIUM CHAMPION raced tight inside SEE ME NOW.
At about the 25 Metres, ACCLAIMED LIGHT and AMAZING ALWAYS brushed.
After the race, U Rispoli reported that SPINNING DANCER did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of SPINNING DANCER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SPINNING DANCER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after the race, Apprentice H N Wong (MUTUAL JOY) stated that the horse was left flat-footed in the middle stages and came under pressure prior to the 500 Metres. He said, despite being ridden out, MUTUAL JOY gave ground in the Straight and, in his opinion, raced "flat”.
GREAT JOY, MY BLESSING and ACCLAIMED LIGHT were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (727) LYNDHURST HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

Shortly after the start, NONE OTHER shifted in marginally and bumped NICE FANDANGO which in turn shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of OTOUTO, causing that horse to become unbalanced.
HALL OF FAME lost its left front plate shortly after the start.
From the outside barriers, HALL OF FAME and SIGHT SEEING were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being aggressively ridden in the early stages, SALSA BROTHERS failed to muster speed.
Near the 1050 Metres, NONE OTHER, which had been steadied to obtain cover, was bumped by NICE FANDANGO which shifted out.
REGENCY HONEY travelled wide and without cover until approaching the 600 Metres.
Making the turn near the 550 Metres, SHOWING CHARACTER became unbalanced and brushed the running rail when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SALSA BROTHERS.
Approaching the 400 Metres, NUMERO UNO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHOWING CHARACTER which shifted out away from the heels of SALSA BROTHERS.
Rounding the Home Turn, SHOWING CHARACTER raced in restricted room between SALSA BROTHERS and GENEROUS BOBO.

Race: 4 (728) ON LAN HANDICAP Class 3 1000 m
At the time of declarations, N Callan was notified as the rider of MR RIGHT as a replacement rider for M L Yeung who was indisposed for this meeting following a race fall at Sha Tin on 11 June 2017. It was established that Jockey Callan was declared as the replacement for M L Yeung without him being contacted to establish whether or not he was able to ride the horse. As N Callan was not able to make MR RIGHT’s allocated weight of 119 lbs, U Rispoli was further substituted as the rider of that horse. Trainer L Ho was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to contact Jockey Callan regarding this ride prior to declaring him as the rider of MR RIGHT. In assessing the appropriate penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that Mr Ho was required to obtain the services of another jockey after being made aware at a late stage of M L Yeung’s indisposition.
MAGIC AGILITY was slow to begin.
DIAMOND MASTER and MR RIGHT bumped at the start.
From a wide barrier, RACING MATE was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, DIAMOND MASTER failed to muster speed.
Passing the 650 Metres, FLYING FORCE was steadied to avoid the heels of PREMIERE (J Moreira) which shifted in. The Stewards were satisfied that the crowding to FLYING FORCE was accentuated by PREMIERE subsequently being awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY COOPERATION which was steadied by its rider outside the lead. Nonetheless J Moreira was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he was not properly clear of FLYING FORCE when initially shifting in and for this he was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear prior to shifting ground. After this, FLYING FORCE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PREMIERE and making the turn near the 550 Metres shifted out, resulting in DIAMOND MASTER being checked when crowded for room inside CIRCUIT KING.
Shortly after entering the Straight, NO MONEY NO TALK shifted out and brushed HAPPY COOPERATION.
Passing the 100 Metres, RACING MATE and CIRCUIT KING brushed as both horses shifted ground.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on NO MONEY NO TALK at the request of Trainer D J Hall. Near the 950 Metres, BEAUTY LOVE commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of WISKY, resulting in BEAUTY LOVE racing wide and without cover.

After the race, B Prebble was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of VOLITATION which gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of VOLITATION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY LOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Race: 7 (731) WYNDHAM HANDICAP Class 2 1800 m
BIG BANG BONG shifted out at the start and bumped DYNAMISM.
GONNA RUN, FRIENDS OF KA YING and KING GENKI were all crowded for room shortly after the start between ANDOYAS and SPEEDY LONGWAH which, after being bumped by PACKING DRAGON, became unbalanced and shifted in.

PACKING DRAGON travelled wide and without cover until passing the 1000 Metres.
Passing the 1000 Metres, DYNAMISM raced tight between SPEEDY LONGWAH and LET US WIN which shifted out away from the heels of RENAISSANCE ART.
Passing the 300 Metres, ANDOYAS was shifted in away from the heels of KING GENKI which was giving ground.
Also passing the 300 Metres, GONNA RUN got its head on the side and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of KING GENKI.
When questioned, N Callan stated that he was asked to ride SPEEDY LONGWAH behind the speed if possible in about 3rd, 4th or 5th position from a wide barrier. He said it was felt that KING GENKI would be able to show speed in the early stages to possibly lead the race and with PACKING DRAGON being drawn to the outside of SPEEDY LONGWAH, it was further anticipated that that horse may be able to race outside KING GENKI which would provide SPEEDY LONGWAH with the opportunity to obtain cover in a forward position. He said in accordance with his instructions, he rode his mount positively in the early stages to ensure that SPEEDY LONGWAH would be able to assume a forward position. He said KING GENKI did not show as much speed as he anticipated and PACKING DRAGON took some time to improve its position forward of SPEEDY LONGWAH. He said having asked SPEEDY LONGWAH for an effort in the early stages, he did not believe that the horse would have sufficient speed to cross KING GENKI and therefore after the 1200 Metres he allowed PACKING DRAGON to improve forward of SPEEDY LONGWAH and attempted to obtain a position behind KING GENKI with cover. He said passing the 1100 Metres FRIENDS OF KA YING was ridden along to ensure that it maintained its position to the inside of SPEEDY LONGWAH and this resulted in his mount being left racing wide and without cover throughout the race. He added SPEEDY LONGWAH came under heavy pressure after the 600 Metres and then in the early part of the Straight made an abnormal breathing noise and became unbalanced in its action. He said as he held concerns over the welfare of the horse, he eased it down in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY LONGWAH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SPEEDY LONGWAH, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY LONGWAH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, D Whyte stated that, in his opinion, KING GENKI is better suited to races on the All Weather Track as the horse travelled only fairly in the race and gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of KING GENKI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FRIENDS OF KA YING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
PACKING DRAGON, TIME WARP and BIG BANG BONG were sent for sampling.

Race: 8 (732) STAUNTON HANDICAP Class 3 1200 m
LOTUS BREEZE began only fairly and the was crowded for room between JADE THEATRE and PRIMERO which shifted out.
From wide barriers, IRON BOY and OUR HERO were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the first turn near the 1050 Metres, the saddle of Apprentice M F Poon (GRACYDAD) shifted considerably to the right, resulting in him losing the use of initially his left iron and further around the first turn the effective use of his right iron, causing Apprentice Poon to be severely disadvantaged and unable to ride out GRACYDAD for the remainder of the race.
Making the turn approaching the 1000 Metres, CHEER WIN got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRIMERO.
Passing the 900 Metres, EXTREMELY FUN raced tight between BEST STEP and YOU READ MY MIND.

A veterinary inspection of LOTUS BREEZE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHEER WIN, JADE THEATRE and EXTREMELY FUN were sent for sampling.
