Race: 2 (644) THE CHEUNG CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m
M REBORN began only fairly.
Shortly after the start, CHIU CHOW KID was bumped by G-ONE UNION which was in turn taken in by REAL DEAL.
From a wide barrier, HARD BALL GET was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Near the 1350 Metres, REAL DEAL and MERRYGOWIN bumped.
For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, CHIU CHOW KID proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MERRYGOWIN. When proving very difficult to settle, CHIU CHOW KID shifted in passing the 1000 Metres and made contact with BOSSIEE. After this, CHIU CHOW KID continued to prove very difficult to settle when racing behind MERRYGOWIN and making the turn at the 900 Metres was bumped by BOSSIEE which shifted out away from the heels of JOLLY AMBER. In this incident, G-ONE UNION, which was racing outside CHIU CHOW KID, became unbalanced when bumped by that horse.
SILLY BUDDIES travelled wide and without cover until after the 700 Metres.
Near the 650 Metres, HARD BALL GET was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of G-ONE UNION.
For the major part of the race, CHARITY KINGDOM travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
CHARITY KINGDOM lost its right front plate after the race.
A veterinary inspection of CHARITY KINGDOM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, O Doleuze stated that due to CHIU CHOW KID over-racing in the early and middle stages, the horse was then not able to close off the race. A veterinary inspection of CHIU CHOW KID immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CHIU CHOW KID will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
BOSSIEE, HARD BALL GET and SILLY BUDDIES were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (645) THE MACWHINNIE CUP (HANDICAP) Class 1 1400 m
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HORSE OF FORTUNE failed to muster speed and shortly after the start was shifted across behind runners.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that he had been asked to ride PABLOSKY more quietly given that the horse was racing over 1400 Metres. He said it was felt that the horse’s best opportunity to close off the race would be for it to be ridden off the speed given that there were a number of horses engaged in the race which had previously taken up a forward position in their races. He said in accordance with his instructions, he steadied PABLOSKY in the early stages and the horse initially got its head up, however, shortly after the start commenced to travel kindly and travelled well during the early and middle stages. He said at the entrance to the Straight PABLOSKY was steadied when unable to improve between MIDNIGHT RATTLER and LUCKY YEAR. He added he then had to wait for a short distance before being able to shift PABLOSKY to the outside of runners which he was able to do passing the 300 Metres. He said after obtaining clear running PABLOSKY then closed off the race well. Mr J Moore, the trainer of PABLOSKY, stated that he anticipated this race would be run at a good tempo as there were a number of horses that had previously raced in a forward position and in particular he anticipated that LUCKY YEAR and HORSE OF FORTUNE, which were both ridden by apprentice jockeys, may race in the lead. He said because LUCKY YEAR was drawn inside PABLOSKY, he had hoped that PABLOSKY would be able to take up a position behind that horse which if LUCKY YEAR led, this would result in PABLOSKY racing behind the lead and which would assist its chance of getting the 1400 Metres of today’s event. He said the circumstances of the race in the early stages after LUCKY YEAR was crossed by WINNER’S WAY passing the 1200 Metres resulted in PABLOSKY racing further back in the field than had been intended.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HORSE OF FORTUNE at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HORSE OF FORTUNE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MIDNIGHT RATTLER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WINNER’S WAY and HORSE OF FORTUNE were sent for sampling.

Race: 4 (646) THE PURVES QUAICH (HANDICAP) Class 4 1650 m
FOREVER POSH began awkwardly.
GRAN MASTER and TRAVEL AMBASSADOR bumped at the start.
From wide barriers, BEST TANGO and SURE PEACE were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, CURLING LUXURY failed to muster speed.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, GRAN MASTER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CROWN AVENUE.
Passing the 1400 Metres, CROWN AVENUE (Apprentice K K Chiong) shifted out abruptly away from the heels of SUPER TALENT (U Rispoli) which shifted in when not quite clear. When CROWN AVENUE shifted out, CURLING LUXURY was bumped and taken wider. Although the Stewards formed the view that CROWN AVENUE had overreacted when steadied at this time which made the incident look worse than it otherwise would have been, U Rispoli was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground. Apprentice Chiong stated that after this incident she attempted to resume a position one horse off the rail, however, GRAN MASTER improved quickly to be racing inside CROWN AVENUE. She said because CROWN AVENUE was left racing wide, she then steadied her mount so as to obtain cover behind GRAN MASTER which resulted in CROWN AVENUE racing further back in the field.
After the 1300 Metres, FIVE STARS AGENT got its head up when travelling keenly in the lead.
After the 1000 Metres, CROWN AVENUE proved difficult to settle and raced keenly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRAN MASTER.
Passing the 500 Metres, NAMJONG INVINCIBLE raced tight inside SUPER TALENT. A short distance later, NAMJONG INVINCIBLE and SUPER TALENT were crowded for room inside GLORY STAR which got its head on the side and lay in as GRAN MASTER improved to its outside. BEST TANGO, which was following SUPER TALENT, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
Passing the 150 Metres, BEST TANGO and SUPER TALENT raced tight.
When questioned regarding his riding of MEGATRON, K Teetan stated that it had been intended for the horse to take up a trailing position if possible behind the horses that the connections considered likely to lead, namely FIVE STARS AGENT and CURLING LUXURY. He said in order to obtain a forward position, he rode his mount along in the early stages, however, GLORY STAR, which was drawn inside MEGATRON, was also hard ridden in the early stages and passing the winning post on the first occasion MEGATRON was left racing three wide and without cover. He said after the 1500 Metres he attempted to steady MEGATRON to obtain a trailing position behind GLORY STAR. He said near the 1400 Metres SUPER TALENT was able to shift across behind MEGATRON to race directly behind GLORY STAR before he was able to steady MEGATRON and obtain the position behind GLORY STAR. He added this resulted in MEGATRON being left racing three wide and without cover, therefore after the 1200 Metres he allowed MEGATRON to improve forward of GLORY STAR so as not to cover unnecessary ground.
A veterinary inspection of FIVE STARS AGENT and CURLING LUXURY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FIVE STARS AGENT, FOREVER POSH and NAMJONG INVINCIBLE were sent for sampling.

Near the 1050 Metres, BALAY BALAY, which had been hard ridden to improve its position, lost ground when crowded for room inside AGREE which was taken in by FRUITFUL LIFE (N Juglall). After this, FRUITFUL LIFE was shifted out to relieve tightening to the runners to his inside. Before being allowed to race again, FRUITFUL LIFE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, S Clipperton stated that it had been hoped that BOLD STITCH, from a wide barrier, may be able to obtain a position in about midfield with cover. He said however that due to the circumstances of the race in the early stages, BOLD STITCH was required to be taken back further in the field than had been hoped in order to obtain cover in a position closer to the rail. He said at the entrance to the Straight BOLD STITCH raced tight between EMPIRE STAR and MEISTERSTUECK which shifted out. He said after this BOLD STITCH was inclined to lay in behind LAUGH OUT LOUD. He said he was able to shift BOLD STITCH to the outside of LAUGH OUT LOUD after the 400 Metres, however, the horse did not close off the race until the final stages. He added whilst BOLD STITCH appeared disappointing, the circumstances of the race were considerably different to its last start when it was able to obtain a good position from an inside barrier. A veterinary inspection of BOLD STITCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MEISTERSTUECK and LAUGH OUT LOUD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Passing the 50 Metres, THE JAZZ was shifted in away from the heels of LUCKY WAN FENG.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of E-SUPER, S Clipperton stated that his mount travelled comfortably until the 400 Metres, however, at this time immediately came under pressure and then, despite being hard ridden, failed to respond and weakened over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of E-SUPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of LUCKY WAN FENG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
