Passing the 800 Metres, SPARKLING TALENT raced tight between PERFECT SMART and NOBLE BUDDIES which got its head on the side and hung in despite the efforts of its rider. Passing the 150 Metres, RUGBY DIAMOND raced in restricted room inside FOREVER FUN when improving into tight running between that horse and ORIENTAL FANTASIA.
For the majority of the race, SPARKLING TALENT travelled wide and without cover.
RUGBY DIAMOND, FOREVER FUN and DOUBLE MASTER were sent for sampling.

Race: 2 (636) LANCASHIRE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m
REGENCY HONEY and WINNING CONTROLLER bumped heavily at the start.
From a wide barrier, CLEVER SPIRIT was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Making the turn passing the 950 Metres, BRIGHT STAR was awkwardly placed inside the heels of JOYFUL FOREVER which was taken in marginally by REGENCY HONEY. When REGENCY HONEY was shifted out to relieve the tightening to JOYFUL FOREVER, WINNING CONTROLLER and SUNNY ORIENT were inconvenienced.
Passing the 900 Metres, JOYFUL FOREVER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING CONTROLLER which shifted in.
Near the 800 Metres, WINNING CONTROLLER commenced to travel keenly and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of BEAR RAPPER.
Near the 550 Metres, BRIGHT STAR got its head up when travelling close to the heels of REGENCY HONEY.
After the race, S Clipperton stated that although BEAR RAPPER was left racing wide and without cover from the 600 Metres, the horse was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the Straight and weaken as it did. A veterinary inspection of BEAR RAPPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
O Doleuze (NASHASHUK) stated that, from its outside barrier, he had to make considerable use of the horse in the early and middle stages to take up a prominent position. He said NASHASHUK was very wide rounding the first turn and although it was able to take up a trailing position by the 600 Metres, the horse soon came under pressure and then was not able to close off the race. A veterinary inspection of NASHASHUK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PRINCE HARMONY and SMART SALUTE were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (637) LANCASHIRE HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m
WINNING VIBE shifted out at the start and hampered MY GIFT and WHISTLE UP. After this, from the outside barriers, MY GIFT and WHISTLE UP were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
TORNEY shifted out at the start and bumped THE FULL BLOOM.
MASTER STEED was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, MASTER STEED (Z Purton) got its head up when being eased away from the heels of THE FULL BLOOM. Z Purton stated that after this MASTER STEED proved very difficult to settle and for some distance in the middle stages again got its head up when having to be checked away from the heels of THE FULL BLOOM. He added that, in particular, near the 600 Metres he had to severely check MASTER STEED away from the heels of THE FULL BLOOM as the horse was not responding to his efforts to have it settle better. He said because of the manner in which MASTER STEED over-raced during the event, the horse was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of MASTER STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Passing the 900 Metres, FINE WITH ME became unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of TORNEY.
Approaching the 600 Metres, WHISTLE UP was awkwardly placed behind MASTER STEED.
Rounding the Home Turn, HOT HOT PEPPER raced tight between WHISTLE UP and WINNING VIBE.
Passing the 200 Metres, FINE WITH ME and MY GIFT raced tight as MY GIFT was shifted to the outside of MASTER STEED to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 50 Metres, SUPER DUKE was brushed by CONFUCIUS SPIRIT which shifted out after racing tight outside TORNEY which improved into tight running between CONFUCIUS SPIRIT and LYRIC ACE.
Throughout the race, WINNING VIBE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, Mr P O’Sullivan, the trainer of HOT HOT PEPPER, stated that the horse was having its 17th race start tonight and had been very disappointing in its failure to finish off a number of its previous races when ridden in a forward position. He said he therefore instructed N Callan, from a wide barrier, to steady HOT HOT PEPPER in the early stages and ride it with more patience in the hope that it would finish off the race with more purpose. He said he anticipated the race would be run at a more genuine tempo than it was, however, even providing for this, HOT HOT PEPPER was again disappointing in the manner in which it did not close off the race. He added due to the manner in which HOT HOP PEPPER performed tonight, if the circumstances allow, he would revert to the horse’s prior racing pattern to being ridden in a more forward position. A veterinary inspection of HOT HOT PEPPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RESPLENDENT GLORY and TORNEY were sent for sampling.

Race: 4 (638) HEREFORD HANDICAP Class 3 1650 m

On arrival at the barriers, MR POTENTIAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race.

Near the 150 Metres, JADE FORTUNE shifted in and brushed HAPPY LIFE.
When questioned, K C Ng stated that he was asked to ride MR POTENTIAL positively from a wide barrier and accordingly, he rode the horse hard in the early stages to clear runners to his inside. He said after being able to obtain the lead on the rail approaching the 1200 Metres, he immediately attempted to steady the tempo given the amount of work he had to do on MR POTENTIAL to lead. He said, despite his attempts to steady the horse, MR POTENTIAL travelled keenly and would not settle and consequently the race was run at a faster tempo than anticipated. K C Ng was advised that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that he had made an effort to steady the tempo on MR POTENTIAL after obtaining the lead, nonetheless he was asked to ensure that he makes every endeavour to rate his mounts so that they can finish off the race as best as they are able. A veterinary inspection of MR POTENTIAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MR POTENTIAL, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MR POTENTIAL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SICHUAN BOSS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HAPPY LIFE and JADE FORTUNE were sent for sampling.

Race: 5 (639) NORFOLK HANDICAP Class 4 1650 m

KWAICHUNG BROTHERS was crowded for room on jumping between FORMULA GALORE and SPARKLING SWORD which shifted out.
From the outside barrier, GREAT JOY was restrained in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DUTCH WINDMILL was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CONTRIBUTION when being steadied to obtain cover.
In the early stages, NEVER BETTER was steadied and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 200 Metres, AMAZING ALWAYS raced tight inside DUTCH WINDMILL which hung in under pressure in the Straight. Then near the 150 Metres, AMAZING ALWAYS was steadied when crowded for room inside DUTCH WINDMILL which got its head on the side and shifted in away from GREAT JOY despite the efforts of its rider.
Approaching the 100 Metres, NEVER BETTER raced tight inside KWAICHUNG BROTHERS.
AMAZING ALWAYS lost its right front plate after the race.
The Stewards inquired into Apprentice K K Chiong’s riding of CONTRIBUTION in this race. Called before the Stewards were Apprentice Chiong, Mr A S Cruz, the trainer of CONTRIBUTION and Mr K W Lui, allocated trainer of Apprentice Chiong. Mr Cruz stated that after establishing with Apprentice Chiong that she had viewed Jockey J Moreira’s ride on the horse at its most recent start when successful, he had asked her to ride in a similar manner, that was to lead, not to overly restrain CONTRIBUTION and to use the whip sparingly on the horse. He said at its last start CONTRIBUTION began well and was able to run quick sectionals but still finished off the race strongly to win. Apprentice Chiong confirmed these instructions, however, as the start was effected CONTRIBUTION lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently began only fairly. She said having in mind her instructions, she then rode CONTRIBUTION along aggressively in the early stages to make up lost ground and take up a forward position. She said CONTRIBUTION had to be ridden along for some distance to gather momentum and she was required to slap the horse down the shoulder with the whip in an endeavour to have it take up a prominent position. When asked by the Stewards as to whether she gave consideration to allowing CONTRIBUTION to settle behind FORMULA GALORE after the 1500 Metres given the manner in which it had begun and the amount of use she had to make of CONTRIBUTION, she said she was aware that SPARKLING SWORD and FORMULA GALORE had occupied the leading positions and further out on the track both DUTCH WINDMILL and MIDNITE PROMISE were also being ridden along to obtain prominent positions, she therefore felt that had she have settled in the position behind FORMULA GALORE, this would have resulted in CONTRIBUTION racing much further back in the field than had been intended. She added therefore she did not give consideration to this option rather she continued to press forward on CONTRIBUTION to race outside the leader SPARKLING SWORD near the 1200 Metres. She said she did briefly consider allowing CONTRIBUTION to remain outside SPARKLING SWORD after the 1200 Metres, however, it seemed to her that that horse was being restrained to take up a trailing position and therefore she felt that CONTRIBUTION would be able to advance forward of SPARKLING SWORD into the lead without having to make any further use of the horse. She said after obtaining the outright lead after the 1100 Metres, she immediately commenced to steady CONTRIBUTION as although the horse had run strong sectionals at its last start, she was aware that she had to make considerable use of it in the early stages and therefore she attempted to have it settle in the lead. She said however that, despite her efforts, CONTRIBUTION would not settle and opened up a significant margin over the field when again running strong sectionals. She added however that in tonight’s race the horse commenced to give ground rounding the Home Turn and then weakened in the Straight. Mr Cruz stated that whilst he had given instructions to lead, these instructions had been predicated on the belief that the horse would begin well. He said having regard to the manner in which the horse began and the fact that it did not show natural early speed, in his opinion, Apprentice Chiong should have positioned CONTRIBUTION behind FORMULA GALORE approaching the winning post on the first occasion to allow the horse the opportunity to be able to finish off its race. Mr Lui stated that, in his opinion, Apprentice Chiong should have adapted to the circumstances of the horse beginning badly and should have either obtained a trailing positon behind FORMULA GALORE or remained racing outside SPARKLING SWORD, a horse he trains. After considering all the evidence, the Stewards informed Apprentice Chiong that whilst riders are given instructions on how a horse should be ridden and that appropriate attempts should be made to comply with these instructions, it is expected that jockeys should show judgement and initiative and ride their horses according to the circumstances. Apprentice Chiong was advised that her riding of this horse was not up to the standard expected of a jockey in Hong Kong. She was further advised to ensure that she rides her mounts in such a manner so that they are given the opportunity to finish off the race as best as they are able. A veterinary inspection of CONTRIBUTION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUM WIN DRAGON and MR KOOL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After this, BLAZE STAMINA was hard ridden, however, failed to muster speed and raced at the tail of the field. After the race, C Y Ho stated that when required to race at the tail of the field, the horse did not appear to show any interest in the race and performed most disappointingly. A veterinary inspection of BLAZE STAMINA, immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MOMENT OF POWER shifted out at the start and inconvenienced YOUNG EMPIRE.
After being crossed by HEALTHY LUCK, MOST BEAUTIFUL commenced to prove very difficult to settle passing the 1100 Metres and had to be severely checked away from the heels of HEALTHY LUCK. MOST BEAUTIFUL then shifted out away from the heels of HEALTHY LUCK near the 1050 Metres, resulting in SUPER LEADER being hampered. HAPPY BAO BEI, which was following and had already got its head up on a number of occasion when proving difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of SUPER LEADER in consequence and shifted out abruptly, resulting in HAPPY BAO BEI losing ground and YOUNG EMPIRE being hampered when taken wider. After this, MOST BEAUTIFUL continued to race fiercely and was awkwardly placed behind HAPPY COOPERATION for some distance between the 1000 Metres and the 800 Metres at which time the horse shifted out away from the heels of HAPPY COOPERATION and then raced wide and without cover.
Passing the 300 Metres, AMAZING was shifted in away from the heels of HAPPY COOPERATION to obtain clear running.
Apprentice H N Wong (YOUNG EMPIRE) dropped his whip approaching the 200 Metres.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ARM RUNDA, O Doleuze stated that although he was able to obtain a good position passing the 800 Metres, he had to make a good deal of the use of the horse in the early stages to overcome the outside barrier. He said as ARM RUNDA had risen in the handicaps as a result of its consistency during the season, he believed that the horse was not able to close off the race because of the early use that he had to make of it. He said although ARM RUNDA did not finish off the race, he believed that were it to draw a more favourable barrier in the near future, it would be competitive. A veterinary inspection of ARM RUNDA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, Apprentice H N Wong stated that with YOUNG EMPIRE being up in class and having drawn barrier 11, he was instructed to ride the horse patiently and endeavour to find cover behind midfield. He said however that YOUNG EMPIRE was caught wide for the majority of the race and consequently did not close off the race. A veterinary inspection of YOUNG EMPIRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
