SUPERNATURAL was withdrawn on 6.5.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FUN MANAGER (H Bowman). Before being allowed to race again, SUPERNATURAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On arrival at the Start, it was noted that BONITO had blood at its mouth. BONITO was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.
YOURTHEONEFORME shifted in at the start and bumped FANTASTICLIFE. A short distance after the start, FANTASTICLIFE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LIGHTNING AND GOLD.
Shortly after the start, BONITO was steadied away from the heels of KING OF SMARTS which shifted in. In this incident, KING OF SMARTS got its head on the side and shifted in further after being bumped on the hindquarters by BONITO.
From wide barriers, LUCKY FRIENDS and EQUITY DOCTRINE were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
After the 800 Metres, AH BO raced with its head on the side and near the 650 Metres hung out onto the heels of LIGHTNING AND GOLD, resulting in AH BO being steadied and losing ground.

Race: 2 (626) SOUTHERN OCEAN HANDICAP Class 3 2000 m
ENSURING was slow to begin.
From the outside barrier, ENORMOUS HONOUR was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
At the 1800 Metres, RAZOR QUEST proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of UP AND COMING. Then after the 1800 Metres, RAZOR QUEST, which continued to prove very difficult to settle, shifted out away from the heels of UP AND COMING, resulting in SHARP SAILOR momentarily racing tight between RAZOR QUEST and GREEN DISPATCH. RAZOR QUEST continued to prove difficult to settle and near the 1700 Metres again got its head up when racing in restricted room between UP AND COMING and GREEN DISPATCH. In this incident, RAZOR QUEST lost ground, resulting in SHARP SAILOR being shifted out away from the heels of that horse. SHARP SAILOR was consequently left racing wide and without cover and was allowed to improve its position around RAZOR QUEST to obtain cover passing the 1200 Metres.
When questioned regarding his riding of HAPPY ROCKY approaching and rounding the Home Turn, K C Leung stated that passing the 500 Metres he was positioned behind and to the inside of SHARP SAILOR. He said at this time SHARP SAILOR came under pressure and he remained racing to the inside of that horse with a view to following GREEN DISPATCH into the Straight in the event that SHARP SAILOR commenced to give ground. He said at the entrance to the Straight UP AND COMING, which was racing on the rail, came away from the rail to follow GREEN DISPATCH and as SHARP SAILOR was continuing to hold its position, he steadied HAPPY ROCKY and directed it away from the heels of SHARP SAILOR to obtain a run between that horse and RAZOR QUEST.
A veterinary inspection of RAZOR QUEST and UP AND COMING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
JOLLY GENE and ENSURING were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (627) ARCTIC OCEAN HANDICAP Class 4 1200 m
At declaration time, M L Yeung was declared as the rider of both OUR FOLKS and ENJOY LIFE. It was established that M L Yeung had a firm commitment to ride ENJOY LIFE. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice H N Wong to be substituted as the rider of OUR FOLKS. For this declaration error, M L Yeung was fined $2,000.
Behind the barriers, it was noted that AUTOPAY had lost its left front plate. The start was delayed when AUTOPAY, which was fractious, took some time to be replated. After being replated, AUTOPAY was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
After being loaded into the barriers, YOU KNOW WHO reared and got its left front leg in between the front gates which resulted in the gates opening. YOU KNOW WHO was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had sustained a wound to the left front upper cannon and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, YOU KNOW WHO was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, YOU KNOW WHO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after being placed in the barriers, SIGHT LEADER became fractious and reared on two occasions, resulting in its rider, J Moreira, being dislodged without incident. Before being allowed to race again, SIGHT LEADER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
After being loaded, INFINITY ENDEAVOUR sat back on the back gates. INFINITY ENDEAVOUR was required to be removed from the barriers and loaded back into the stalls in order to ensure that the horse stood correctly as the start was effected. Before being allowed to race again, INFINITY ENDEAVOUR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
INFINITY ENDEAVOUR began awkwardly.

Passing the 600 Metres, SMILING GLORY commenced to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed behind SMART BOY.
In the early part of the Straight, AMAZING MOMENT lay out under pressure.
Passing the 100 Metres, AUTOPAY was shifted in away from the heels of RESPECT to continue improving and close to the finishing line was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZING MOMENT.
In the Straight, SIGHT LEADER raced greenly and shifted ground on a number of occasions.
For the majority of the race, SMART BOY travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of ROCHFORD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ROCHFORD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of FLYING NOBLE and ROCHFORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SIGHT LEADER and INFINITY ENDEAVOUR were sent for sampling.

Race: 4 (628) SOUTH CHINA SEA HANDICAP Class 4 1600 m
WINASWEWISH had its tongue tie refitted in the Parade Ring.
HALL OF FAME and COOL BROTHERS, which both began awkwardly, were crowded for room on jumping between TRIUMPHANT LIGHT and LUCKY POWER which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident, TRIUMPHANT LIGHT became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by COOL BROTHERS.
NOTED PERFORMER was crowded for room on jumping between RUBY COAST and TEAM SWEET which shifted in. After this, NOTED PERFORMER was shifted across behind runners.
THE SHOW lost its left front plate at the start.
WINASWEWISH, from the outside barrier, was taken across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1500 Metres, CAPE THE FAITH momentarily raced tight inside POLYMER LUCK which was taken in by THE SHOW.
LUCKY POWER gave ground in the Straight and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY POWER immediately following the race confirmed the horse to be a “roarer” which had previously been reported. The performance of LUCKY POWER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of THE SHOW, Apprentice H T Mo stated that the tempo of the race today was quicker than at its last start when the horse was successful after being able to lead. He said despite being ridden along in the early stages, THE SHOW did not show sufficient early speed and he was unable to prevent CLUB LIFE from crossing THE SHOW near the 1300 Metres and then LUCKY POWER shifting in to race in advance of THE SHOW near the 1000 Metres. He added THE SHOW did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and in the Straight gave ground and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of THE SHOW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of THE SHOW, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, THE SHOW will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
TRIUMPHANT LIGHT, CLUB LIFE and POLYMER LUCK were sent for sampling.

Race: 5 (629) CARIBBEAN SEA HANDICAP Class 4 2000 m
GORGEOUS AGAIN began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ALLCASH.
From a wide barrier, FULL GLORY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
BLAZING PASS lost its right front plate after passing the winning post on the first occasion.
Approaching the 600 Metres, FULL GLORY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEST REWARD which shifted out.
Passing the 200 Metres, GORGEOUS AGAIN raced tight inside GARLIC YEAH which shifted in under pressure.
Passing the 150 Metres, CLOUD NINE, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of PO CHING TREASURE which got its head on the side and shifted in.
Z Purton (BEST REWARD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of TERRIFIC MASTER, resulting in that horse having to be checked away from the heels of BEST REWARD and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. Z Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 28 May 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 1 June 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Purton’s good race riding record.
Near the 75 Metres, BLAZING PASS was directed out away from the heels of GARLIC YEAH to continue improving.
When questioned, M L Yeung stated that as BEST EFFORT was stepping up in distance to 2000 Metres for the first time, it was anticipated that the horse would have sufficient natural early speed to take up a forward position from barrier 3. He said he was therefore asked to let the horse use its early speed and allow it to obtain a forward position without riding it along He said BEST EFFORT was crowded for room on jumping between PO CHING TREASURE and ASHKIYR, both of which shifted ground and this resulted in him having to ride BEST EFFORT along for a short distance to ensure that it maintained its position between those horses. He said after this BEST EFFORT was able to obtain a forward position outside PO CHING TREASURE without having to be ridden along. He added when PO CHING TREASURE was hard ridden to his inside, he remained racing outside that horse and commenced to steady his mount after passing the winning post on the first occasion. He said when he did this BEST EFFORT commenced to travel keenly and would not relax until near the 1400 Metres.
When questioned regarding his riding of CLOUD NINE after the 1600 Metres, K Teetan stated that, from the outside barrier, he had been asked to ride the horse positively in the early stages to obtain a forward position as it had previously been successful when ridden in this manner. He said it was explained to him that CLOUD NINE is one-paced and therefore leading would give it the best opportunity to finish off the race strongly. He said he had to ride his mount aggressively to cross runners to his inside and after passing the winning post on the first occasion was left racing in a position three wide and without cover. He said as the tempo of the race was quite genuine in the early stages, he elected to attempt to obtain a trailing position behind BEST EFFORT passing the 1600 Metres rather than continue to race wide and without cover. He said as he was doing this, the leaders slackened the tempo marginally and as CLOUD NINE was proving difficult to steady to obtain a trailing position behind BEST EFFORT, he therefore allowed his mount to improve forward of BEST EFFORT approaching the 1200 Metres. He said after shifting in to race outside the leader PO CHING TREASURE, he felt that as that horse had earlier been steadied, he therefore believed that there was an opportunity to use CLOUD NINE’s momentum to continue forward and cross PO CHING TREASURE. He said however that after the 1000 Metres PO CHING TREASURE was ridden to maintain its position to the inside of CLOUD NINE, however, as the horse at this time had its momentum up, he elected to continue forward of that horse to lead rather than remain racing outside PO CHING TREASURE. K Teetan was advised that, having regard to the sectionals of the race after the 1200 Metres, in the opinion of the Stewards, it would have been in CLOUD NINE’s best interests to remain racing to the outside of PO CHING TREASURE rather than continue to go forward on that horse. K Teetan was further advised to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so that they can close off their race as best as they are able.
A veterinary inspection of BEST EFFORT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BEST REWARD and GORGEOUS AGAIN were sent for sampling.

Race: 6 (630) PACIFIC OCEAN HANDICAP Class 2 1000 m
RADIANT TREASURE was slow to begin.
GENERAL IRON lost its right front plate at the start and began awkwardly.
ARCHIPPUS began only fairly.
Shortly after the start, MY LITTLE FRIEND was bumped by GOLD LAND which was taken out by GENERAL IRON.
For some distance after the 700 Metres, PREMIERE raced tight outside ADVENTURER (Apprentice H N Wong) which shifted out. Apprentice Wong was advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for his fellow riders in similar circumstances.
Near the 650 Metres, ARCHIPPUS got its head on the side and shifted in towards the heels of MAGIC LEGEND which was racing tight outside HOUSE OF FUN.
Passing the 650 Metres, RACING SUPERNOVA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLDEN HARVEST. Then approaching and passing the 500 Metres, RACING SUPERNOVA raced tight between MY LITTLE FRIEND and GOLDEN HARVEST.
After the 600 Metres, RADIANT TREASURE (H W Lai) got its head on the side and lay out. After the race, H W Lai reported that his saddle shifted to the right passing the 600 Metres, causing him some inconvenience.
Near the 450 Metres, RACING SUPERNOVA was steadied when crowded for room between GOLDEN HARVEST which shifted out marginally and MY LITTLE FRIEND which shifted in when attempting to improve inside HOUSE OF FUN which shifted in at this time.
For some distance after the 400 Metres, MAGIC LEGEND was held up for clear running when attempting to improve outside HOUSE OF FUN. At this stage, ARCHIPPUS improved into tight running between MAGIC LEGEND and PREMIERE, resulting in both horses racing very tight until after the 100 Metres at which time MAGIC LEGEND was shifted to the inside of HOUSE OF FUN
Apprentice K K Chiong (FLYING TOURBILLON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres she failed to take sufficient measures to prevent her mount from shifting out, resulting in GOLDEN HARVEST being checked and losing its rightful running when crowded for room inside MY LITTLE FRIEND. Apprentice Chiong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 28 May 2017 and to expire on Monday, 5 June 2017 on which day she may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Apprentice Chiong was fined $15,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that this was the 6th occasion this season that Apprentice Chiong had been charged with careless riding.
Close to the finishing line, MY LITTLE FRIEND was severely checked when crowded for room between FLYING TOURBILLON (Apprentice K K Chiong) which shifted out marginally wen laying out and MAGIC LEGEND which was shifted to the inside of HOUSE OF FUN. MAGIC LEGEND was then bumped close to the finishing line by ARCHIPPUS which improved into tight running between MAGIC LEGEND and HOUSE OF FUN. Apprentice Chiong was advised that whilst the initial shift from MAGIC LEGEND and then ARCHIPPUS had a significant bearing on this incident, nonetheless she had permitted FLYING TOURBILLON to shift out when riding it along. Apprentice Chiong was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that she makes every endeavour to prevent her mounts from shifting ground.
A veterinary inspection of RACING SUPERNOVA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MAGIC LEGEND, HOUSE OF FUN and ADVENTURER were sent for sampling.

Race: 7 (631) THE CHAMPIONS MILE Group One 1600 m
In the early stages, CONVEY and STORMY ANTARCTIC travelled keenly. When STORMY ANTARCTIC was left racing wide and without cover and continued to prove difficult to settle, that horse was allowed to improve its position from the 1100 Metres to obtain the lead passing the 900 Metres.
Passing the 800 Metres, RAPPER DRAGON went amiss and was retired from the race.
Near the 650 Metres, CONVEY was taken wider by HELENE PARAGON which shifted out to improve.
T Berry (HELENE PARAGON) dropped his right rein approaching the 200 Metres.
Passing the 100 Metres, CIRCUIT LAND momentarily raced in restricted room between CONTENTMENT and HELENE PARAGON which shifted in. T Berry was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by Z Purton, the rider of the 2nd placed, BEAUTY ONLY, against CONTENTMENT, the winner, alleging interference approaching and passing the 350 Metres. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the videos, the Stewards found that near the 350 Metres BEAUTY ONLY was directed to the outside of CONTENTMENT in an endeavour to improve into running between that horse and CIRCUIT LAND. The Stewards further found that prior to establishing the run between those two horses, BEAUTY ONLY, which was being ridden along, was then directed to the inside of CONTENTMENT passing the 300 Metres after being disappointed for running as a result of CONTENTMENT shifting out and CIRCUIT LAND shifting in marginally. As the Stewards were satisfied that BEAUTY ONLY did not establish running to the outside of CONTENTMENT, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in notified on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.
RAPPER DRAGON, CONTENTMENT and BEAUTY ONLY were sent for sampling.

Race: 8 (632) THE CHAIRMAN'S SPRINT PRIZE Group One 1200 m
DUNDONNELL was withdrawn on 5.5.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, DUNDONNELL and AEROVELOCITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MR STUNNING shifted out at the start and bumped PENIAPHOBIA.
AMAZING KIDS, BLIZZARD and SUN JEWELLERY were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Making the first turn after the 900 Metres, THEWIZARDOFOZ was bumped by STRATHMORE which got its head on the side and lay in.
Rounding the Home Turn, THEWIZARDOFOZ and STRATHMORE made contact as THEWIZARDOFOZ shifted out into clear running.
Passing the 300 Metres, THEWIZARDOFOZ was bumped by MR STUNNING which shifted out into clear running. After this, MR STUNNING hung out and near the 200 Metres shifted out despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in THEWIZARDOFOZ and STRATHMORE being crowded for room inside AMAZING KIDS which also shifted in marginally. As the Stewards were satisfied that J Moreira had made all reasonable efforts to prevent MR STUNNING from shifting out, no further action was taken. After this, MR STUNNING continued to lay out and proved difficult to ride.
A veterinary inspection of BLIZZARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LUCKY BUBBLES and MR STUNNING were sent for sampling.

Race: 9 (633) INDIAN OCEAN HANDICAP Class 3 1200 m
LOOK ERAS began awkwardly. LOOK ERAS was then vigorously ridden along from a wide barrier, however, failed to muster speed and after the 1100 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.
DIAMOND DRAGON was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Near the 1050 Metres, PAKISTAN BABY raced in restricted room between ELITE SPIRIT and ARIZONA BLIZZARD which was racing tight inside GREEN CARD.
When being steadied after the 800 Metres in the lead, MR RIGHT commenced to travel keenly, got its head on the side and shifted out.
Near the 750 Metres, ELITE SPIRIT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of INVINCIBLE FRESH.
Approaching the 300 Metres, EASY TOUCH was steadied away from the heels of THE JUDGE (O Doleuze) which shifted out. O Doleuze was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground unless clear of other runners.
Near the 150 Metres, ARIZONA BLIZZARD got its head on the side, lay out and bumped LOOK ERAS which became unbalanced. LOOK ERAS then shifted ground inwards abruptly, making further contact with ARIZONA BLIZZARD, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced.
When questioned regarding the performance of EASY TOUCH, H Bowman stated that as he was instructed to take up a forward position, he rode his mount hard in the early stages. He said however that EASY TOUCH did not show early speed and as there were a considerable number of horses to his inside, he did not believe it was reasonable to continue on, therefore he elected to steady the horse to obtain a positon with cover after the 1300 Metres. He said although EASY TOUCH had cover behind LOOK ERAS, the horse hung out making the first turn and then continued to lay out. He added although EASY TOUCH had to be steadied approaching the 300 Metres, the horse was well beaten at this time and then did not respond to his riding thereafter. A veterinary inspection of EASY TOUCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, EASY TOUCH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MR RIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LITTLE GIANT and GREEN CARD were sent for sampling.

Race: 10 (634) ATLANTIC OCEAN HANDICAP Class 2 1400 m
PIKACHU began awkwardly and lost ground.
SKY KING was slow to begin and then despite being hard ridden throughout the race became detached from the field. After the race, C Y Ho was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of SKY KING and said the horse at no stage showed any interest in the race. A veterinary inspection of SKY KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SKY KING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SKY KING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Passing the 1000 Metres, HAPPY AGILITY got its head on the side, lay in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of MR GENUINE.
BABA MAMA had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and then passing the 250 Metres was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MOMENTUM LUCKY. BABA MAMA then raced with its head on the side and lay in under pressure and near the 100 Metres was bumped by MOMENTUM LUCKY which shifted in.
LET US WIN was held up for clear running approaching and passing the 250 Metres. LET US WIN then had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 100 Metres.
Approaching the 100 Metres, ALL YOU WISH was shifted out away from the heels of MOMENTUM LUCKY.
Passing the 50 Metres, BABA MAMA was shifted in away from the heels of TIME WARP.
Throughout the race, HARRIER JET travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding of MY DARLING after the 600 Metres, B Prebble stated that approaching the 600 Metres he was racing between MR GENUINE and HARRIER JET which shifted out marginally. He said when HARRIER JET continued to shift out and MR GENUINE remained racing behind MOMENTUM LUCKY, he elected to improve between MR GENUINE and HARRIER JET as he did not want to be taken unnecessarily wide rounding the Home Turn by HARRIER JET. He said for this reason near the 500 Metres he rode his mount along to improve between those horses, however, at this time MR GENUINE shifted out which resulted in MY DARLING being disappointed for running. He said he then considered shifting to the outside of HARRIER JET, however, as he had ridden his mount along, he believed he would have had to restrain MY DARLING to shift out across the heels of HARRIER JET and as MR GENUINE was a horse that he considered to be a strong chance in the race, he elected to follow that horse through. He added MR GENUINE did not quicken as quickly as he thought it would and this resulted in MY DARLING being badly held up for clear running from the 400 Metres until after the 150 Metres.
When questioned regarding the performance of HAPPY AGILITY, K Teetan stated that he was able to obtain a position with cover behind MR GENUINE approaching the 900 Metres and he was comfortable with the position that he occupied. He said however that HAPPY AGILITY did not travel at any stage of the race and was very disappointing in the manner in which it finished off the race. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY AGILITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HAPPY AGILITY, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY AGILITY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that MERION was lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MERION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
