After the 800 Metres, CHEERFULJET continued to race greenly and lay out and then after the 700 Metres hung out. CHEERFULJET continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride until after straightening. Rounding the Home Turn, NEVER BETTER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GOLDEN ACHIEVER which shifted out.

The Stewards tonight interviewed Trainer C S Shum regarding CHARITY GLORY (T302) being a pre-declaration withdrawal for this race due to being treated. Also interviewed was Mr C Y Kwong, work rider allocated to Mr Shum’s stable for the current season. CHARITY GLORY was withdrawn from this race on Monday, 13 March 2017. Mr Shum was found to have breached Rule 50(2) in that as the trainer of CHARITY GLORY, he did fail in his responsibility for all matters pertaining to the running of his stable and that CHARITY GLORY was treated with omeprazole on Monday, 13 March 2017 which necessitated the withdrawal of the horse from this race. A short distance later, SILVER SPUN was checked when crowded for room between E-SUPER and HAPPY METEOR which was bumped and taken out by BEAUTY MASTER which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. When questioned, T H So stated that it had been intended for MR RIGHT to be ridden behind the speed if possible. He said it was felt that DIAMOND MASTER and TRAVEL COMFORTS, which had drawn inside MR RIGHT, would obtain forward positions and it was hoped that MR RIGHT may be able to obtain a trailing position behind those horses. He said after steadying MR RIGHT in the early stages to race behind DIAMOND MASTER, MR RIGHT, despite being ridden along, did not show as much early speed as had been anticipated and because of this raced further back in the field than had been intended.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY MASTER, MOMENT OF POWER and OCEAN ROAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WAYFOONG VINNIE and DIAMOND MASTER were sent for sampling.

When questioned, K Teetan stated that, from the outside barrier, he had been asked to obtain cover on GIANT TURTLE and it was hoped that the horse may be able to obtain a position behind midfield. He said it was felt that were GIANT TURTLE to be ridden to obtain a forward position as is usual, the horse may be left racing wide and without cover as there were a number of runners which were expected to take up a forward position. He said it was felt that GIANT TURTLE’s best opportunity to finish off the race would be for it to be ridden from off the speed with cover rather than having to be used up to obtain a forward position. He added the pace of the race was good and GIANT TURTLE finished off the race well in the circumstances.
VICTORY BOYS, PIKACHU and THUNDER STOMP were sent for sampling.

Over the concluding stages, GOLDEN HARVEST and BACK IN BLACK raced tight.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SEA JADE, J Moreira stated that he was able to cross runners to his inside without having to ride his mount along vigorously to do so as SEA JADE was travelling strongly. He said after crossing PREMIERE passing the 700 Metres, SEA JADE would not relax as he expected it to and then after being placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn weakened noticeably over the latter stages of the race. He added that the veterinary finding that the horse had a substantial amount of blood in its trachea following the race, in his opinion, accounted for its failure to finish off the race. Before being allowed to race again, SEA JADE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that as PREMIERE was racing over 1200 Metres for the first time tonight, he had been asked to try and settle the horse in the early stages and it was anticipated that PREMIERE may be able to cross BLOCKER DEE to its inside and race outside MOLLY’S JADE STAR, thereby allowing SEA JADE to cross PREMIERE. He said BLOCKER DEE maintained its position in the early stages and as he steadied PREMIERE to allow SEA JADE to cross, the horse commenced to travel keenly and would not relax. He said when BLOCKER DEE maintained its position, he was obliged to allow PREMIERE to stride forward to clear that horse and when he did this PREMIERE continued to race keenly and would not relax. He said PREMIERE initially responded well to his riding in the early part of the Straight, however, over the final 200 Metres came under pressure and did not finish off the race. He added that, in his opinion, the manner in which PREMIERE had over-raced in the early and middle stages was the reason for the horse’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of PREMIERE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PREMIERE, JETWINGS and SUPER TURBO were sent for sampling.
