Whilst in the saddling stalls, REAL DEAL had its right hind plate refitted. REAL DEAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

Near the 1150 Metres, ZOOMOOL lost ground when crowded for room between GOOD FOR YOU (N Rawiller) which initially shifted in and MEISTERSTUECK which got its head on the side and shifted out after being brushed on the hindquarters by ZOOMOOL. N Rawiller was advised that whilst MEISTERSTUECK had contributed to this incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
For some distance after the 1000 Metres, ZOOMOOL proved very difficult to settle and making the turn near the 900 Metres raced tight between GOOD FOR YOU and RHODE ASSASSIN which shifted out. C Y Ho was advised that whilst the Stewards encourage riders to improve their position wherever possible, nonetheless due care must be exercised so as not to place undue pressure on other horses which can result in interference being caused.
When questioned, C Y Ho stated that, from an inside barrier, it had been hoped for MEISTERSTUECK to be ridden behind the leaders and if the race was being run at a slow tempo, it was acceptable for him to lead. He said after being placed into the barriers MEISTERSTUECK became fractious and attempted to sit down and then as the start was effected was slow to begin, resulting in the horse racing much further back in the field than had been intended. He said approaching the first turn when the tempo of the race slowed, MEISTERSTUECK got its head up when racing close to the heels of JOLLY AMBER. He said after this MEISTERSTUECK appeared to resent racing in amongst horses as it was never travelling comfortably. He added in the Straight he attempted to shift to the outside of CARE FREE PRINCE in the hope that the horse would close off better when being outside of runners, however, MEISTERSTUECK was not travelling well enough to initially improve inside GOOD FOR YOU before closing off fairly over the concluding stages. He said he was of the view that MEISTERSTUECK did not appreciate racing amongst runners and he felt that had the horse been given the opportunity of clear running, it would have closed off better than it did. A veterinary inspection of MEISTERSTUECK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of CARE FREE PRINCE and GOOD FOR YOU immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MEISTERSTUECK, BOLD STITCH and LUCKY POWER were sent for sampling.

BEST REWARD was withdrawn on 11.3.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, BEST REWARD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Approaching the 50 Metres, GOOD FIT was steadied away from the heels of PREMIUM CHAMPION which shifted out.
Close to the finishing line, SUPER FORM and PREMIUM CHAMPION raced tight.
GORGEOUS AGAIN and GARLIC YEAH were sent for sampling.

Passing the 200 Metres, INTREPIC was shifted out away from the heels of MULTIMAX to continue improving.
Apprentice K K Chiong (MULTIMAX) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 100 Metres she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of WUSHU CHAMPION, causing that horse to be severely checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. Apprentice Chiong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 26 March 2017 and to expire on Monday, 3 April 2017 on which day she may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). Race: 8 (488) CYMBIDIUM HANDICAP Class 2 1650 m
CALIFORNIA JOY was withdrawn on 11.3.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore and mucus on scoping). Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA JOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Approaching the 600 Metres, SKY KING raced in restricted room inside BIG BANG BONG.
Passing the 300 Metres, PACKING LLAREGYB was steadied when unable to improve between HIT THE BID and TRAVEL FIRST. PACKING LLAREGYB was then held up for clear running and passing the 200 Metres after initially being angled to shift to the outside of TRAVEL FIRST was then directed back in to improve between that horse and HIT THE BID as clear running became available between those horses. This resulted in PACKING LLAREGYB being unable to be tested until after the 200 Metres.
For some distance after the 300 Metres, APOLLO’S CHOICE raced in restricted room when improving into tight running between FLYING MOOCHI and HIT THE BID.
Near the 250 Metres, FRIENDS OF KA YING shifted out and brushed PABLOSKY which became unbalanced.
SKY KING was unable to obtain clear running until over the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be properly tested.
For the majority of the race, PABLOSKY travelled wide and without cover.
After passing the winning post, Apprentice H T Mo dismounted from FLYING MOOCHI. The Veterinary Officer subsequently reported that FLYING MOOCHI was lame in the right front leg as a result of a right front tendon injury. Before being allowed to race again, FLYING MOOCHI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, N Rawiller (SPEEDY LONGWAH) stated that it had been anticipated that the race would be run at a good tempo, however, it was felt that the horse had sufficient speed to be able to take up a position just behind the leaders. He said just prior to the start being effected SPEEDY LONGWAH became fractious and lunged at the front gates. He said he felt that the horse’s behaviour in the barriers may have affected its performance as SPEEDY LONGWAH did not show the early speed which was anticipated and then did not travel well at any stage of the race which resulted in it racing much further back in the field than had been intended. He added he rode the horse in a barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race and the horse had travelled strongly which was not the case in today’s race. He said passing the 900 Metres he had concerns regarding the manner in which SPEEDY LONGWAH was travelling and looked down to establish whether the horse may have bled. He said when this was not the case, he continued to ride SPEEDY LONGWAH, however, the horse did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY LONGWAH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PABLOSKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of SKY KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SKY KING, PEOPLE’S KNIGHT and FRIENDS OF KA YING were sent for sampling.

Passing the 1400 Metres, MONGOLIAN KING momentarily raced in restricted room between FRIENDS OF NANJING and FULL GLORY.
N Callan (FRIENDS OF NANJING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MONGOLIAN KING (N Rawiller), resulting in that horse being unnecessarily crowded for room and hampered. N Callan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 29 March 2017 and to expire on Monday, 3 April 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Callan’s good race riding record. For some distance after this, N Rawiller attempted to re-establish running inside FRIENDS OF NANJING which, after shifting in passing the 1100 Metres, then shifted out marginally when racing inside the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY approaching the 1000 Metres. This resulted in MONGOLIAN KING racing to the inside of FRIENDS OF NANJING where there was not sufficient room for some distance approaching the 900 Metres at which time MONGOLIAN KING was checked after being unable to maintain its position. N Rawiller was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have desisted in attempting to re-establish his position inside FRIENDS OF NANJING even given that that horse had shifted out marginally approaching the 1000 Metres.
MONGOLIAN KING had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Before being allowed to race again, REGENCY BO BO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
SICHUAN BOSS was slow to begin.
From a wide barrier, KA YING KID was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
For some distance after the 1100 Metres, CELESTIAL NOVA commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MR POTENTIAL before shifting out away from the heels of that horse near the 1000 Metres which resulted in RED ELYSEES being taken wider. General
1.
Races 8 – 10 were each put back 5 minutes.
2. 8 March 2017 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 7 (479)
After reviewing the video footage for the Happy Valley racemeeting conducted on Wednesday, 8 March 2017 as is usual practice, the Stewards today questioned J Moreira regarding his riding of ENREACHING in the middle stages of the race. J Moreira stated that approaching the 800 Metres the race was being run at a good tempo and he elected to shift out to race behind INDUSTRIALIST WAY passing the 800 Metres in case the leaders commenced to give ground given the tempo of the race. He said as the tempo continued to be good approaching the 700 Metres and as INDUSTRIALIST WAY had raced wide and without cover throughout the race, he felt there was more likelihood of PEARL WARM WARM being able to take him into the race rather than INDUSTRIALIST WAY and as HAPPY ROCKY was improving its position around ENREACHING at this time, he elected to shift back in to race behind PEARL WARM WARM rather than be taken back through the field by INDUSTRIALIST WAY and pocketed inside HAPPY ROCKY. He said ENREACHING was provided with the opportunity to shift back in behind PEARL WARM WARM as ANDOYAS, which was attempting to improve into that position, was not quick enough to take advantage of that run. He said PEARL WARM WARM initially held its position whilst INDUSTRIALIST WAY was under heavy pressure after the 600 Metres, however, the pattern of the race changed markedly after the 500 Metres as PEARL WARM WARM was unable to continue improving inside CLUB LIFE which was under pressure and he was obliged to wait until after the 400 Metres to be able to shift to the outside of runners to obtain clear running. He added in hindsight he had erred in not maintaining the three wide position behind INDUSTRIALIST WAY, however, he felt at the time that this was the better of the two options available to him. J Moreira was advised that the Stewards agreed that he should have remained racing behind INDUSTRIALIST WAY rather than shifting back in to race amongst runners. He was further advised to ensure that, wherever possible, he rides his mounts in such a manner so that they are afforded the opportunity to improve their position when it arises.
