Godolphin Newcastle runners update
14 Sep 2017 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk

Godolphin's trainer James Cummings comments on the stable's runners at Newcastle on Friday

Race 5 – NBN News NJC 3YO Spring Stakes Group 3 (1600m)
ASTORIA (USA) - 3yo Colt by Medaglia d’Oro (USA) out of Segue (AUS)
“He’s got a real glow about him.”
“He resumed with a strong first-up run in the Ming Dynasty where he finished behind horses like Addictive Nature and Gold Standard who then won the Stan Fox quite dominantly.”
“If he just takes that next step forward he’s going to be a real chance in the Spring Stakes.”
“The 1600m should suit, if there’s a bit of cut in the ground he can handle that. I think he could be a real improver among our three-year-old colts”

Race 6 – Australian Bloodstock Cameron Handicap-Group 3 (1500m)
SPECTROSCOPE (USA) - 5yo Horse by Medaglia d’Oro (USA) out of Diamondrella (GB)
“A much better chance. He ran well without winning first-up behind Deploy who has since run another record.”
“He’s been building really nicely between runs, as a European import he’ll appreciate his runs being spaced.”
“He’ll get a good opportunity to get back into the winners’ circle and lay down his Epsom hopes.”
Race 8 – Yarraman Park Tibbie Stakes Group 3 (F&M SWP) (1400m)
PHILOSOPHY (AUS) - 5yo Mare by Street Cry (IRE) out of Renaissance (AUS)
“She won the final race of the season in July against mares.”
“Since then she’s had a nice, easy time out at the farm and has freshened up well. The sort of work she’s been producing she’s certainly ready to run well again and give us an indication of where she might sit among the black-type mares.”

PYGMY (AUS) - 4yo Mare by New Approach (IRE) out of Rinky Dink (AUS)
“This is a good starting point for Pygmy who is a mare that we can see getting up to 1600 or 2000 metres this preparation.”
“I wouldn’t be too surprised to see her run well fresh here. She had a nice little trial for Kerrin McEvoy a couple of weeks ago and she seems to be in really good order and has matured well from there.”

Form for the Newcastle Cup meeting on Friday - the eight race programme commences at 12.50pm AEST
