17 Jul 2017 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk

The $100,000, July Sprint (1100m) is the feature of the Australian Turf Club’s meeting at Randwick on Saturday with nine nominated on Monday with nominations extended until Tuesday, as they are for six of the nine races programmed. A total of 122 nominations were received on Monday

The Randwick course proper was rated a Soft 7 on Monday and with no rain forecast for the week Felines and That’s A Good Idea may have a suitable track for a re-run of their Hawkesbury sprint race back on April 29th.

The Kris Lees trained Felines, a rising six-year-old Conatus mare, won that feature, run on a Good 3 track, by 3/4L over the Snowden trained That’s A Good Idea, a rising eight-year-old Flying Spur gelding.

Felines carried 57kg on that occasion with That’s A Good Idea 58.5kg. The latter has not raced since Hawkesbury, but the stable has trialled him twice with the last a win over 1050m at Randwick on July 10th.

The mare has raced twice since in listed company with the last resulting in a fifth on the June Stakes over 1100m at Randwick, but on a Heavy 10 track. Her seven wins have come on Good and Soft tracks.

There are ten rising three-year-old’s nominated for the 2YO Handicap (1200m), with nominations extended. Two have not raced, Addictive Nature and Gretzky, while of the others only Gresham and Milanese Girl have not won in earlier starts, although they have each placed second.

The rail will be out 10m for the entire circuit on Saturday.

Sydney’s weather remains fine with cool mornings down to 7c and up to 16c on Thursday, 18c on Friday and 20c for Saturday.
