15 Jul 2017 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk

The race for the 2016/17 Sydney Jockey Premiership paused at Rosehill on Saturday with Hugh Bowman not adding to his tally and Brenton Avdulla not riding due to suspension. They remain on 77 and 76.5 winners respectively.

Riding honours at Rosehill went to Adam Hyeronimus with a winning treble on Insensata, Pick Me Up and Hunter Jack to add to his previous number for the metro season of 19 winners.

Jess Taylor also starred winning the feature $150,000, listed ATC Winter Stakes (1400m) on the Jason Coyle trained light-weight Slightly Sweet. The five-year-old Charge Forward mare carried 53kg in a blanket finish over Man Of His Word, 54.5kg and Kathy O’Hara, and Elle Lou, 54.5kg and Glyn Schofield.

The margins were a head and half-head. The win took Slightly Sweet’s earnings to just under $500,000 along with the valuable black type for the Esplin family.

Slightly Sweet ($14-$26) defied the betting drift to win with Taylor driving her to the finish over Man Of His Word ($13-$19) and Elle Lou ($18-$17).

Bowman’s mount, the top-weight Gold Symphony with 59kg, had punters loading up at $4.60 over Burning Passion ($4-$6.50) and Extensible ($5.50). The trio held 70 percent of the total market with Gold Symphony responsible for the bulk of that, however the latter finished 11th.

Bowman and Avdulla will resume their tussle this week.
