Promising 3YO filly excels with heavy track midweek win
06 Dec 2017 | THOROUGHBREDNEWS NEWS DESK

Lisdoonvarna (by Super Easy) opened up her metropolitan winning account with an impressive front-running performance on a Heavy 9 surface at Warwick Farm in Sydney this afternoon, running away from her opposition over the closing stages to post a near three-length victory.

A progressive daughter of the former Singapore racing star Super Easy, Lisdoonvarna went in to the contest as a two-time winner at Nowra and a last-start minor placegetter at Hawkesbury from her four previous outings.

Faced with the challenge of city grade opposition for the first time in her career, Lisdoonvarna made most of the running in the 1300m assignment and was still going strongly at the finish of the $40,000, ATC TAB Handicap, an event restricted to 3-year-old fillies.

In a race with some genuine depth for an early summer midweek contest, Lisdoonvarna safely held off the late finishing effort of Savatiano (by Street Cry), with Star Galaxy (by Star Witness) claiming third place.

Official margins of the contest were two-and-three-quarter lengths by a short-neck.

Lisdoonvarna commenced her racing career in New Zealand earlier this year before being switched to the Warwick Farm stables of Amanda Turner & Mauro Poletti. Her five competitive starts either side of the Tasman have now netted three wins and two placings.

Despite encountering a Heavy racing surface for the first time in her career, Lisdoonvarna handled the conditions with aplomb. The secret of her success might be buried away in her maleline bloodlines.

Lisdoonvarna’s sire Super Easy is one of five individual stakes winners produced by the amazing broodmare Parfore, dam also of Group 1 winning sprinters Tiger Tees and Terravista, as well as Group 2 winning sprinter Ball of Muscle.

Collective winners of 33 races, over 30 percent of the trio’s very memorable victories have been recorded in Soft or Heavy going.

Significantly, the Warwick Farm track was downgraded to a Heavy 10 following Lisdoonvarna’s maiden city success. Her ability to handle the conditions seems certain to stand her in good stead during the remainder of her promising career.
