We make it to the last day of another Melbourne Cup Carnival and it's a big last day with two deep Group 1 contests highlights of the week.

The Darley Classic sees an Everest rematch between Redzel and Vega Magic, with the latter arguably an unlucky loser back at Randwick.

Vega Magic has since raced flat in the Manikato while Redzel has been kept fresh and targeted at this by a stable that get it right more often than not. Splitting them is no easy task but perhaps the better bet come from the fresh horse on the scene in Impending who fired a warning shot in the Everest consolation behind In Her Time first up.

In Her Time and Impending stacked up well against the Everest on the clock and In Her Time advertised the value of the form when running a narrow second in the Manikato. It's the upside that Impending brings to this race that makes him an appealing bet and, using the filters in the full form for Impending to narrow down to just good track runs, things look fairly rosie.

$9.00 is currently available and and we think that represents a good gamble.

For an each way play we will press on to the Mackinnon which is wide open. There is no Impending here with all the key runners looking to have peaked already this spring and it's a battle of who can hold form rather than find form.

Gingernuts might be the exception to that but he has a big question to answer in terms of talent. One that may have something more to offer is Tosen Stardom out to 2000m for the first time in a couple of years.

He has smart form at 1800m in Japan and is a Ranvet Stakes runner up at 2000m in Australia. Having struggled for a long time to get any continuity in his racing in Australia , Tosen Stardom has finally got a base of racing underneath him now and he has rewarded connections with a Group 1 Toorak win.

We think he might be even better than that still and last weeks Kennedy Mile can provide the perfect springboard. The muddling tempo may have played against him last week but it could win him the Mackinnon this week.
