Eight search for The Rosebud

The feature $150,000, listed Smithfield RSL Club Rosebud (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday has a field of eight three-year-old’s as they commence the black type path of the new season towards the $1m, Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on the same course on September 23rd.

World-wide operations Godolphin and Coolmore face off with progeny from their stallion barns with the former accepting with Street Cry colt Trekking and the latter with Fastnet Rock colt Siege Of Quebec.

Trekking was second in the Group 3 Black Opal over 1200m at Canberra on March 5th and then he draw barrier 15 in the Group 1 Golden Slipper over 1200m at Rosehill on a Heavy 10 track on March 18th.

Ridden by William Buick he finished 12th after settling back from the barrier and not making progress on the track. Om Saturday Brenton Avdulla rides with56.5kg from barrier two.

Siege Of Quebec, from the Waterhouse and Bott yard, was not seen until June and he has since won both his race starts, the last by 1/2L over 1400m at Rosehill on July 15th on a Good 4 track. Tim Clark rides with 54.5kg and barrier one.

Mark Newnham’s Hinchinbrook colt Diamond Tathagata and Gerald Ryan’s Snitzel colt Menari share top-weight of 60.5kg with Blake Shinn and Josh Parr riding and barriers six and five respectively.

Diamond Tathagata won the Group 2 Skyline Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on February 25th on a Heavy 8 track, another reminder of the heavy conditions experienced in Sydney over the summer and autumn. The colt went forward for a seventh in the Slipper and 12th in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400.

Menrari won on debut and then placed second to Pariah, second in a trial to Winx at Randwick on Tuesday, in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill on January 28th.

Then Ryan sent him forward for the Group 2 Todman Stakes over 1200m where he was fifth and the Slipper for a good fourth from barrier one under Corey Brown.

The colt settled in fourth and maintained the position finishing 5 1/4L from She Will Reign. He finished his campaign with a 10th in the Sires’ Produce Stakes. Menari has trialled at Rosehill over 900m on August 1st for a second.

Menari is the early TAB.com.au market favourite at $2.80 with Siege Of Quebec  at $3.50, Trekking $4.60 and Diamond Tathagata $8.00.

The Rosebud is Race 6 at 2.55pm.

The Nine race programme, with 93 acceptances, commences at 11.55am with a field of 11 in the $60,000 TAB Highway Handicap (1100m).

The track is rated a Good 4 on Wednesday with the rail out 3m for the entire circuit.

Sydney’s weather for Rosehill continues to be fine and sunny with Thursday and Friday 23, and Saturday sunny with 5c – 22c.
