Winx and 12 other nominations for the Winx Stakes

There were 13 nominations including Winx received on Monday for the champion mare’s own race, the $500,000, WFA Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday with the Waller stable providing as expected six of the nominations.

The Waller nominations outside of Winx are D’Argento, Libran (IRE), Religify, Single Gaze and Unforgotten. All are commencing for new campaigns and they are unlikely to be a threat to Winx in the same manner as former stablemate Foxplay was last year when Winx was slow out of the barriers.

The balance of the nominations are as follows: David Payne’s VRC Derby winner Ace High; James Cumming’s Queen of the Turf winner Alizee; Waterhouse and Bott’s Cabeza De Vaca; Gary Moore’s Classic Uniform; Matthew Smith’s Invictus Prince (GB); John Sargent’s duel Group 3 winner Luvaluva (NZ) and the Hawkes’ trained Showtime.

Not surprisingly Winx has opened with TAB.com.au at $1.10 with D’Argento at $11.00, Alizee $15.00 and the rest $26.00 and over.

Nominations are extended until Tuesday.

The three-year-old fillies commence their spring series with the $200,000, Group 2 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) and 13 nominations were received including Australia’s current highest performed maiden, Tony McEvoy’s Oohood.

The I Am Invincible filly has earned stakes of just short of a million at $996,100, but in six starts she has not won.

However, in three of those starts she was Group 1 placed; third in the Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield on February 24th, second in the Golden Slipper over 1200m at Rosehill on March 24th and second in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m on April 7th.

Oohood is the opening $2.80 favourite with TAB.com.au with Fiesta and Miss Fabulass at $5.00, Outback Barbie at $6.00 and Cristobal and Futooh at $9.00.

Nominations are also extended until Tuesday.

The track is currently rated a Good 4 with the rail out 7m for the Course Proper. There has been 12mm of irrigation for the last seven days.

Sydney’s weather continues to be fine and sunny with temperatures from 22c on Tuesday through to 20c on Friday. Saturday’s forecast is for a mostly sunny day with 8c – 22c.
