Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Chairman Amanda Elliott paid tribute to long-time Flemington trainer Russell Cameron, who passed away on Tuesday 10 September at age 61.
“The racing community has lost a wonderful horseman in Russell, and the VRC would like to extend its sincere condolences to his close-knit family,” Mrs Elliott said.
“Russell was also part of the Flemington family for many years, and will be remembered for his talent as a trainer through horses such as Toledo, Iglesia, Bomber Bill and St Clemens Belle.
“Russell’s legacy will live on at Headquarters through his son Scott, who is now based out of his late father’s stables at Flemington.
“The Club extends its support to Scott, his mother Judy and his brother Sean during this difficult time.”
The VRC will remember Russell this Saturday at Flemington, with the Vale Russell Cameron to be run on Sofitel Girls’ Day Out.
