Victorian trainer hospitalised with head injury

Racing Victoria has confirmed a 76-year-old licensed trainer has been airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in a stable but critical condition after an incident at the Cranbourne Training Complex on Friday morning.

It is believed the trainer suffered a serious head injury when kicked by a horse when unloading it from a float.

Cranbourne Turf Club CEO Neil Bainbridge confirmed the incident had taken place in the float car park but said details of the situation were still coming to light and that Victoria Police and WorkSafe Victoria were investigating.

"We're still trying to get more details on exactly what happened this morning, and of course all our thoughts at this time are with the trainer and his family," Bainbridge said.

Australian Trainers' Association CEO Andrew Nicholl also said his thoughts were with the trainer and his family and that the ATA would offer them any assistance that was required.
