An emotional Shane Nicholls was 'really chuffed' after winning the feature sprint race on his home track with consistent gelding Streets Of Avalon on Saturday.
The four-year-old by Magnus claimed Saturday's $200,000 Ladbrokes Hareeba Stakes (1200m) after controlling the race from outside the lead.
Apprentice Zac Spain confidently sent Streets Of Avalon ($5 favourite) into the lead upon straightening and he quickly opened up a winning break, with topweight Bons Away ($6.50) hitting the line hardest of all for second after starting from the outside barrier.
"Zac (Spain) put him into the race, he got that little cheap sectional mid-race and he was strong to the line," Nicholls said.
"To win the Harebba (Stakes) at our home track of Mornington, I'm really chuffed about that.
"The staff need to be congratulated for that because he's had a long prep and it doesn't happen easily."

Nicholls trained two winners on Mornington Cup Day, with Tahitian Dancer successful first-up over 1200 metres earlier in the day.
"We retired I Am A Star last night so it's great to have a double today," Nicholls added.
Streets Of Avalon has raced 30 times for five wins and 15 placings, his prizemoney now beyond the $500,000 mark.
He may return to 1400m for his next start with the $140,000 Listed Anniversary Vase (1400m) and $160,000 G3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) both at Caulfield during April.
