SPARING NO EFFORT was withdrawn on 15.6.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, SPARING NO EFFORT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Shortly after the start, SPEEDY DRAGON was bumped by HORSE BULLET which was taken out by TRIUMPHANT JEWEL. After this, TRIUMPHANT JEWEL got its head on the side and shifted out away from LIGHTNING STEED, resulting in HORSE BULLET becoming unbalanced when crowded for room between TRIUMPHANT JEWEL and SPEEDY DRAGON and causing HORSE BULLET to lose ground. In this incident, SPEEDY DRAGON became further unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by HORSE BULLET.
Approaching and passing the 700 Metres, MAJESTIC DRAGON travelled keenly when awkwardly placed behind BUMBLE BABY.
At the 250 Metres, the whip of M Chadwick (BUMBLE BABY) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of T Berry (GENTLE BREEZE).
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of N Callan (TRIUMPHANT JEWEL), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reprimanded for easing down his horse over the concluding stages.
A veterinary inspection of GOKO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GOKO, LIGHTNING STEED and BUMBLE BABY were sent for sampling.

Race: 2 (733)HO SHEUNG HEUNG ROAD HANDICAPClass 51200 m
CHAPARRAL STAR shifted out at the start and bumped ELITE POWER.
Shortly after the start, EVER STRONG shifted out and made heavy contact with PEACE ON EARTH, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced.
After the 600 Metres, MASSIVE MILLENNIUM was awkwardly placed behind PEACE ON EARTH.
Passing the 300 Metres, MASSIVE MILLENNIUM was shifted in away from the heels of ELITE POWER to continue improving.
Throughout the race, ELITE POWER travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, B Prebble (HAPPY SOUND) stated that he was instructed to obtain a position with cover from the wide barrier if possible. He said it was explained to him that HAPPY SOUND had not shown as much early speed as it had shown previously in recent races and it was felt that the horse would not be able to take up a prominent position in the race. He said after riding his mount along in the early stages, he elected to steady HAPPY SOUND when I’M A WITNESS, which was drawn to the inside of HAPPY SOUND, was being vigorously ridden. He said as he attempted to do this, I’M A WITNESS was not able to then go forward, so he elected to allow HAPPY SOUND to improve its position in advance of I’M A WITNESS which resulted in the horse racing in a position just worse than midfield.
A veterinary inspection of AUTOPAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of I’M A WITNESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SKY TREASURE and SNOWHOOVES were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (734)TUEN MUN PUBLIC RIDING SCHOOL HANDICAPClass 41200 m

Shortly after the start, CHACHAUP shifted in and bumped LUCKY COIN.
From the outside barrier, VICTORY MARCH was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 800 Metres, FOREVER KINDNESS, which had been ridden along for some distance, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of BURST AWAY which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TEAM SPIRIT (J Moreira) which, after crossing to the lead, eased the tempo. LUCKY COIN, which was following FOREVER KINDNESS and travelling keenly, was steadied away from the heels of that horse for some distance in consequence. J Moreira was warned against the practice of easing the tempo too abruptly in races.
For some distance after the 800 Metres, MY WINNER got its head up when being checked away from the heels of SUPER EURO STAR.
After the 800 Metres, VICTORY MACHINE was awkwardly placed behind MY WINNER and shifted out away from behind that horse, resulting in VICTORY MACHINE travelling wide and without cover.
After the 700 Metres, REGENCY DARLING got its head on the side and lay out.
Approaching and passing the 400 Metres, IMPECCABLE FELLOW was awkwardly placed behind REGENCY DARLING after being disappointed for running between that horse and SUPER EURO STAR. IMPECCABLE FELLOW was then shifted to the inside of REGENCY DARLING passing the 300 Metres to obtain clear running.
Throughout the race, SUPER EURO STAR travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SHANGHAI DRAGON at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SHANGHAI DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

TEAM SPIRIT and BURST AWAY were sent for sampling.

Race: 4 (735)POK FU LAM PUBLIC RIDING SCHOOL HANDICAPClass 41400 m
As the start was effected, ADONIS bounded in the air, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and the horse losing ground. Before being allowed to race again, ADONIS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
EVERYONE’S ELITE shifted in at the start and bumped ENDEARING.
HARD BALL GET shifted out at the start and bumped heavily with HAVE FUN TOGETHER which lost ground when crowded for room.
From wide barriers, BEST GIFT and RELENTLESS ME were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 900 Metres, ADONIS got its head up when awkwardly placed behind HAVE FUN TOGETHER.
After the 600 Metres and rounding the Home Turn, HARD BALL GET became unbalanced after being bumped by EMERALD SPUR which got its head on the side and lay out.
Rounding the Home Turn, ADONIS was shifted to the outside of KEEP GOING when disappointed for running between that horse and HAVE FUN TOGETHER which shifted out away from the heels of EVERYONE’S ELITE.
Rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, FIRE AND GOLD was awkwardly placed behind HARD BALL GET. Then passing the 400 Metres, FIRE AND GOLD and FORTUNATE RUNNER bumped as FIRE AND GOLD attempted to improve to the outside of HARD BALL GET. Passing the 300 Metres, FIRE AND GOLD raced in restricted room between HARD BALL GET and FORTUNATE RUNNER. Then near the 250 Metres, FIRE AND GOLD was steadied when crowded for room between HARD BALL GET which shifted out after being brushed by HAVE FUN TOGETHER and FORTUNATE RUNNER which, after shifting in of its own accord, then was taken in further by POLYMER LUCK which got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly away from RELENTLESS ME. In this incident POLYMER LUCK became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by FORTUNATE RUNNER which was also hampered and lost ground. After this incident, FIRE AND GOLD and FORTUNATE RUNNER were eased down. A veterinary inspection of FIRE AND GOLD immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNATE RUNNER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNATE RUNNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Passing the 300 Metres, ADONIS, which was held up for clear running, was steadied and shifted out acutely from behind POLYMER LUCK to obtain clear running.
RELENTLESS ME lost its left front plate approaching the 100 Metres.
Near the 75 Metres, ADONIS was corrected by its rider after shifting inwards abruptly.
Throughout the race, HARD BALL GET travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, U Rispoli stated that from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride EMERALD SPUR positively and obtain a forward position. He said whilst it had been hoped that the horse might be able to obtain a position with cover, it was felt that this would be difficult from its wide barrier and therefore he was asked to sit outside the lead if possible, however, if no other horse showed early speed, it was acceptable for him to make the running. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode EMERALD SPUR along in the early stages and the horse was able to obtain a forward position easily. He said he was able to discontinue riding EMERALD SPUR forward after the 1300 Metres as by that stage the horse had already established a prominent position outside the eventual leader LEISURED FEET and he was able to follow that horse across to race closer to the rail. He said EMERALD SPUR settled well in the early stages, however, in the middle stages got its head on the side and lay out which is unusual for the horse given that it had not shown any similar tendency in its previous races or in training. He added EMERALD SPUR became unbalanced after the 600 Metres after bumping with HARD BALL GET due to EMERALD SPUR laying out and the horse came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight. He said, despite being fully tested, EMERALD SPUR did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in that it did not finish off the race over the concluding stages. He added he did not attribute the disappointing performance to the fact that EMERALD SPUR was ridden in a forward position, rather he believed that the horse’s inclination to lay out indicated to him that the horse was not comfortable in the race. Mr P F Yiu, the trainer of EMERALD SPUR, said that from the wide barrier, with the rail being in the widest position, he had been unsure whether to ride EMERALD SPUR forward or from the rear. He said given that horses on the speed had raced well in the previous race, he therefore felt it might be advantageous to obtain a forward position as he was concerned that by steadying EMERALD SPUR in the early stages would result in the horse getting a long way out of its ground. He said he therefore elected to instruct Jockey Rispoli to ride EMERALD SPUR positively. He added having regard to the manner in which EMERALD SPUR raced, if he was to start the horse again this season, he would, depending on the programme, attempt to drop the horse back in distance to 1200 Metres which might suit it better if the horse were to be ridden more conservatively, but in a race with a solid tempo. A veterinary inspection of EMERALD SPUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of HARD BALL GET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EMERALD SPUR, RELENTLESS ME and HAVE FUN TOGETHER were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the Start, K Teetan expressed considerable concern regarding the action of DRAGON MASTER. The Veterinary Officer reported that a veterinary examination of DRAGON MASTER at the trot behind the barriers did not reveal any significant findings. K Teetan reiterated to the Veterinary Officer that the horse did not feel right in front and that he was not comfortable to ride it. Acting on this advice, DRAGON MASTER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. As this was the second occasion this season that a rider had expressed concern relative to the action of DRAGON MASTER on raceday, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, DRAGON MASTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After this, LAST KINGDOM again had difficulty obtaining clear running and over the concluding stages was awkwardly placed inside the heels of XIANG BAI QI and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
HEZTHEWONFORUS was unable to obtain clear running until after passing the 250 Metres.
Passing the 200 Metres, DANCES WITH DRAGON had some difficulty obtaining a run and near the 150 Metres was shifted out from behind RIVET to obtain clear running. DANCES WITH DRAGON then became unbalanced after bumping with FAST MOST FURIOUS near the 75 Metres.
After the race, M Chadwick explained that it was intended for CIRCUIT GLORY to be ridden with cover if possible. He said for this reason he shifted CIRCUIT GLORY across to race behind SIMPLY BRILLIANT after the 1500 Metres, however, he was left racing wide and without cover near the 1300 Metres. He said CIRCUIT GLORY consequently travelled keenly and therefore he allowed the horse to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 1000 Metres.
Also after the race, K Teetan stated that despite the race being run at a good tempo, MORETHANLUCKY travelled keener than it had in its previous races when ridden by him. He said MORETHANLUCKY, after coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the latter stages of the race. A veterinary inspection of MORETHANLUCKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Mr F C Lor, the trainer of MORETHANLUCKY, reported that following the horse’s disappointing performance, it is now his intention to spell the horse.
