He said after the 1000 Metres he improved his position to be racing in the lead and as he attempted to steady the tempo, SOCCER BRAVE and JIMSON THE FAMOUS improved quickly to his outside which meant that he had to ride his mount along from prior to the 700 Metres to maintain its position inside those horses. He said at this time the tempo of the race was particularly quick. He added in the Straight WINNINGLI came under heavy pressure, but then weakened noticeably over the final 200 Metres. He said on pulling up WINNINGLI made a single audible breathing noise which indicated to him that the horse may have held its breath over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of WINNINGLI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of WINNINGLI, a favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINNINGLI will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of SERGEANT TITANIUM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

After the race, A Sanna reported that after being placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight, LONDON MASTER became unbalanced in its action and, in his opinion, was not stretching out fully and for this reason he eased the horse down over the latter stages of the race. A veterinary inspection of LONDON MASTER immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm and was also confirmed to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. Before being allowed to race again, LONDON MASTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of VERY SWEET ORANGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of MAGIC POWER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MAGIC POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, S Clipperton stated that after shifting BEST REWARD across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier, he rode his mount aggressively approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion in an endeavour to have it improve its position behind the main body of the field as BEST REWARD became detached from the field. He said at no stage of the race did BEST REWARD travel comfortably and near the 600 Metres lay in abruptly and gave him the impression that there was something amiss with the horse as it became badly unbalanced at this time. He added because of this he eased the horse down over the remainder of the race, however, BEST REWARD was detached from the field at this time. He said after the race he could detect no specific abnormality with BEST REWARD, however, the horse did not want to stretch out during the race. A veterinary inspection of BEST REWARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BEST REWARD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEST REWARD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of MARVEL JOY, O Doleuze stated that the horse became stirred up prior to the race as it did in its recent start when it performed well. He said in today’s race he was able to obtain a good position on MARVEL JOY and he was very happy with the manner in which the horse travelled in the early and middle stages. He said however that after being placed under pressure prior to the Home Turn, MARVEL JOY did not respond to his riding and did not quicken as it did at its most recent start. He added whilst MARVEL JOY was disappointing, he felt that today’s heat may have taken more out of the horse prior to the race than at its last start when the horse raced at night. A veterinary inspection of MARVEL JOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
IMPERIAL CONCORDE and CHATER THUNDER were sent for sampling.

Race: 8 (720)THE MEMBERS CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec2)Class 31200 m

When being steadied to obtain cover from the wide barrier, HAPPY HOUR was momentarily crowded for room shortly after the start between LUCKY HERO and C P POWER (Apprentice C Wong) which shifted in. In this incident, LUCKY HERO became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by HAPPY HOUR. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves sufficient room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
After the 800 Metres, DIAMOND DRAGON commenced to travel very keenly, got its head on the side and lay out. DIAMOND DRAGON then continued to travel keenly and, despite the efforts of its rider, hung out, resulting in the hose shifting to the outside of C P POWER near the 650 Metres and then making the Home Turn wide. As this was the second consecutive occasion that DIAMOND DRAGON had exhibited unacceptable racing manners, the Stewards ruled that the horse must undergo a series of barrier trials around a bend before being permitted to race again.
Over the concluding stages, LUCKY HERO, which was finishing off the race fairly, was checked away from the heels of ROCKIT. In this incident, C P POWER became unbalanced when bumped by LUCKY HERO.
Throughout the race, C P POWER travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he was asked to ride POSITIVELY HIGH patiently in the early stages as the horse had not been finding the line as well as had been hoped. He said in accordance with his instructions he shifted his mount across behind runners in the early stages and then was able to follow LUCKY HERO after the 900 Metres. He said it was explained to him that POSITIVELY HIGH is still lightly raced and therefore he was asked not to use too much whip on the horse rather to shift to the outside of runners in the Straight and ride the horse out vigorously hands and heels to ensure that it was able to finish off the race as best as it was able. He said accordingly he shifted POSITIVELY HIGH to the outside of runners in the early part of the Straight after which the horse commenced to close off the race well. He added he used the whip on a number of occasions on POSITIVELY HIGH, but having regard to the fact that he was instructed not to use too much whip on the horse, as it was finishing off the race as best as it was able, he did not believe it was necessary for the whip to be used any more than it was. Mr C Fownes, the trainer of POSITIVELY HIGH, said that he had mixed the horse’s distances as he had been generally disappointed with the manner in which POSITIVELY HIGH had failed to finish off its races. He confirmed that in today’s race the intention had been for the horse to be ridden in a position in about midfield or slightly worse and then for it to be shifted to the outside of runners to see whether these tactics may be more conducive to the horse finishing off the race. He also confirmed that he did not want too much whip to be used on POSITIVELY HIGH given that the horse is relatively inexperienced and he felt that it would be better suited by being tested with the whip but also being ridden predominantly in a hands and heels manner. He said having regard to the manner in which POSITIVELY HIGH closed off its race, he would ensure that the horse will be ridden in a similar manner in its future starts.
A veterinary inspection of LUCKY HERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ALCARI and CRUISING were sent for sampling.

When questioned regarding the performance of HANDSOME BO BO, Z Purton stated that out of the barriers he rode HANDSOME BO BO aggressively, however, DREAM COME TRUE, from a wider barrier, showed more speed than HANDSOME BO BO. He said he was able to obtain a good position behind WINNING SUPREME making the first turn after the 900 Metres and HANDSOME BO BO initially travelled well. He said approaching and passing the 700 Metres HANDSOME BO BO got its head up when awkwardly placed behind WINNING SUPREME. He said after shifting to the outside of WINNING SUPREME rounding the Home Turn, HANDSOME BO BO initially quickened well, however, over the concluding stages, despite being ridden out, was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. He added HANDSOME BO BO had risen considerably in the ratings this season and, based on today’s performance, may be looking for a break. A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME BO BO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING SUPREME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Near the 250 Metres, K C Leung (SONIC FIGHTER) momentarily lost the use of his whip.
Throughout the race, KEEP WINNING travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that incidents occurred after the 250 Metres which cast doubt on whether VILLA FIONN (C Schofield) should be declared the 3rd placegetter. These incidents involved VILLA FIONN and CALIFORNIA JOY (N Callan), the 5th placegetter. It was established that passing the 300 Metres VILLA FIONN shifted out and bumped CALIFORNIA JOY, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced and that approaching the 200 Metres VILLA FIONN shifted out and again made slight contact with CALIFORNIA JOY. It was further established that near the 150 Metres CALIFORNIA JOY shifted in and bumped VILLA FIONN. Having regard to these incidents and the manner in which both horses finished off the race, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate to proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing and accordingly weighed-in was semaphored on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. N Callan did not lodge a protest/objection in respect of these incidents. C Schofield was reprimanded for permitting VILLA FIONN to shift out passing the 300 Metres which initiated the contact between the two horses.
After the race, an endoscopic examination of SWEET LEADER found that horse to be a "roarer” and to have a substantial amount of mucus in its trachea.
