RNSW stewards' inquiry into positive sample from Highway Handicap winner The Lion

Racing NSW Stewards advised on Monday that they have scheduled an inquiry into the findings of the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory and Racing Analytical Services Limited that a sample taken from the Michelle Fleming trained The Lion following its win in the TAB Highway Handicap over 1100m at Randwick on 9 June 2018 has been found to contain 4 hydroxy xylazine.

The inquiry will be conducted at Racing NSW, Sydney, on Tuesday 18 September 2018.

4 hydroxy xylazine is used for sedation, anesthesia, muscle relaxation, and analgesia in animals such as horses. In 2017 Racing Queensland warned trainers about the withholding period when using 4 hydroxy xylazine during surgery after four trainers were fined and their runners disqualified.
