New Zealand's largest breeding stock sale, New Zealand Bloodstock's 2019 Karaka May Sale, can now be viewed online with printed catalogues arriving in the post at the end of March.
The 240-lot catalogue is brimming with pinhooking, breeding and investment opportunities. Streamlined into one day of selling on Friday 17 May, the first lot will go under the hammer from 10am.
Selling will commence with the Weanling category seeing 154 lots offered, followed by the Yearling category with a further 18 lots presented. The remainder of the catalogue will see three Two-Year-Olds, five Racehorses and a total of 60 Broodmares to close the day’s trading.
The Yearling category is the last chance this year to secure a Karaka Million Series eligible horse for two $1 million races – the Karaka Million 2YO in 2020 and the Karaka Million 3YO Classic in 2021. In addition to the lucrative races, nominated horses will also be able to contest the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup for the duration of their career.
Graduates of the Sale have claimed 79 stakes wins in the past five seasons throughout New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Macau. Among these stakes wins, seven of those were Group One victories with the most recent graduate to join the honour roll the son of Dundeel, Yourdeel (NZ).
A $30,000 weanling purchase, he placed in the $1 million Karaka Million 2YO and went on to win the Group One Sistema Stakes. Little Avondale purchased the weanling from the draft of Daniel Myers and re-offered him in Book 1 at Karaka 2018 where he fetched $100,000 from the bid of Chris Rutten Bloodstock.
There are a total of 35 professional vendors offering drafts at the Sale this year with progeny from a selection of over 80 sires, including 12 exciting first season sires from Australasia in the Weanling session.
There will be the progeny of 21 stakes-winning dams and siblings to 63 stakes winners. In addition, there are nine lots who are BOBS eligible, two Karaka Million Series nominated horses, two Pearl Series lots and a QTIS nominated weanling.
Selling begins at 10am on 17 May at Karaka. All supplementary Lots will be sold after the last Lot in their respective category. Supplementary entries close Tuesday 7 May.
