Supplementary Reports:

GOSFORD – Tuesday 13 August 2019

Race 4:  Gosford RSL Club Fillies – Mares Class 2 Handicap 1200m

Georgia Hit– Stewards today concluded an inquiry into Georgia Hit, which was found to have suffered a catastrophic failure to the suspensory apparatus and was retired from the race.  Stewards subsequently received veterinary and stable treatment records from trainer Mr D Payne, which did not reveal any previous treatment or medical condition of the filly, which may have contributed to the injury.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As J Innes Jr was stood down due to illness following his ride in race 3, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions:

Race 5 App. J Guthmann-Chester (non-claiming) on Classy Fella.
Race 7 B Spriggs on Kotinos.

RACE 1:  Minco Tech Australia Class 1 & Maiden Plate 2360m

Plucky George – on jumping was bumped by Breakdance and became unbalanced.

Badge Of Honour – shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between Crete and Tokyo King.

Russian Express – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Tokyo King – raced wide and without cover until near the 1500m, where it was allowed to stride forward and assume a position outside the leader Breakdance.

True Marvel – raced wide and without cover from the 1500m.

Taroba – laid in under pressure rounding the home turn and then continued to lay in in the straight.

Arlington Magic – when questioned regarding the performance, rider R Thompson stated that his mount travelled comfortably throughout the early and middle stages trailing the leader and eventual winner Breakdance, however, when that runner quickened from the 500m, his mount was left flat-footed and was one-paced in the run to the finish.  He added that the only explanation he could offer is that the mare may not have appreciated the quick backup after racing at Moruya on 18 August 2019.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 2:  Civil Sydney Maiden Plate 1895m

Cross Eyed Mary – slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

The Borough – slow to begin.  When the pace slackened approaching the 1000m was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of Nicoya.  The Borough then raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event.  Near the 900m was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of Chile Dal Khani, which was taken out by Oakfield Poet.  Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten near the 250m.

Chile Dal Khani – on jumping was bumped by Stellar Impact.  When the pace slackened approaching the 1000m commenced to pull hard and had to be steadied away from the heels of Lazaro.  Near the 900m was hampered and carried wider by Oakfield Poet, which shifted to the outside of Lazaro to improve.

El Guerrouj – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Wild Sheila – raced wide and without cover until near the 1200m, where it assumed a position outside the leader Stellar Impact.

Lazaro – when the pace slackened approaching the 1000m had to be steadied away from the heels of Wild Sheila.  Near the 500m, when weakening, was steadied when crowded between Would Be King and Oakfield Poet, which both shifted ground slightly.  Rider C Reith reported that his mount hung out throughout the event.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 44 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr S Oliver was told that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

Tisane – had difficulty obtaining completely clear running until near the 75m.

Nicoya – when questioned regarding the performance, rider App. C Williams stated that, after beginning well, he was able to obtain a prominent position in the early stages to the outside of Would Be King.  He said, however, that after receiving some slight crowding near the 1600m, his mount proved reluctant to hold its position and commenced to lose ground despite his riding.  He added that as a consequence his mount was shuffled back towards the rear of the field in the middle stages, however, it was nevertheless disappointing in its failure to finish the race off when placed under pressure from the 600m.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stable representative Ms J Brookes was told that Nicoya would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

RACE 3:  MGA Insurance F&M Class 2 Handicap 1400m

Heart Of The Oak - prior to the declaration of correct weight, the Stewards identified from the inquiry room that rider J Innes Jr had struck his mount on nine occasions prior to the 100m (four more than permitted).  When Stewards could not be satisfied that Heart Of The Oak had gained an advantage that resulted in it winning the race, they therefore declined to exercise their powers under AR132(10) and did not proceed with a formal protest.  J Innes Jr was fined $100 under AR132(7)(a)(ii).  Slow to begin.

Natanya – slow to begin.  A post-race veterinary examination or the mare, which was beaten 28 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr S Oliver was told Natanya would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Vive Marie – slow to begin.

Sharapova – raced keenly approaching the first turn and had to be steadied away from the heels of Heart Of The Oak.  App. C Graham reported she was instructed to race prominently and, after her mount began only fairly, she rode it along, however, when it failed to muster speed and she felt if she continued to push forward the mare would be caught wide, she elected to restrain it near the 1200m and obtain a position towards the tail of the field.  Lost its near-fore plate passing the 200m.

Stratacheva – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 4:  Cumi Australia CG&E Class 2 Handicap 1400m

Funky Music – held up rounding the home turn.

Oakfield Target – A Bullock (Great Danger) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shifted in passing the 200m when insufficiently clear of Oakfield Target, which lost its rightful running and had to be checked.  A Bullock’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 3 September 2019 and to expire on Sunday, 8 September 2019, on which day he may ride.

Invincible Dash – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5:  Leah Jay Maiden Handicap 1400m

Amitto – slow to begin.  Held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until near the 250m.

RACE 6:  Elk Designs Maiden Plate 900m

Sangria - Stewards permitted C Lever to ride the filly 0.5kg over its declared weight of 54.5kg.  Began awkwardly and lost ground.  When questioned, rider C Lever stated that in the strides immediately after leaving the barriers his mount give an indication that it may commence to buck, however, a short distance later it ran to the outside fence and, despite his efforts and as a consequence, lost significant ground and took no competitive part in the event.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr C McCullogh was told that Sangria would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

For Love – began very awkwardly, made contact with I’m Jacko and lost ground as a consequence.

Little Steiny – rounding the first turn laid out towards the heels of Fortification and had to be steadied.  Held up rounding the home turn.  Over the concluding stages had to be steadied when crowded between Bedtime Stories and American Salute (C Reith), which shifted out when not clear.  C Reith was advised to exercise more care.

Margie Bee – when questioned regarding the performance, rider G Buckley stated that from his wide barrier he had to make too much use of his mount to ultimately take up a position outside the leader Fortification near the 700m and as a consequence it was left without a finishing effort.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Bedtime Stories – raced wide and without cover for the major part of the race.

Oakfield Captain – laid out under pressure over the final 200m.

RACE 8:  Coastline Pools & Spas Maiden Handicap 1200m

Katona – as K Latham was suffering from dehydration, he was required to take on fluids and as a consequence was overweight.  Stewards permitted B Spriggs to be substituted as the rider of the gelding.  Slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until passing the 200m.

Bellarine – bounded on jumping and lost ground (2L).

Somervell – began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Nature.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider C Lever stated that he was instructed to obtain a position midfield with cover, however, after his mount began particularly well, was caught wide in the early stages and no other runner showed intent to go forward, he allowed his mount to stride forward to assume the lead approaching the 800m.  He said that, after obtaining the lead, his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the middle stages and, when placed under pressure on straightening failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Muiron – pulled hard in the early stages and near the 900m was steadied away from the heels of Somervell (C Lever), which shifted in when not quite clear.  C Lever was advised to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground.  Muiron then continued to pull hard in the middle stages.
