RACE 1:  Tripac PVC Maiden Handicap 900m

Invincible Kiss – as L Magorrian was late arriving on course, Stewards permitted S Guymer to be substituted as the rider of the mare.  Slow to begin and then shortly after was hampered by Pixel Perfect, which was taken out by Party Glow.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider S Guymer stated that his mount hung out throughout the early and middle stages and when placed under pressure in the straight raced greenly and proved difficult to ride out.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr W Seelin was told a warning would be placed on the mare’s record regarding its racing manners.

Twistit – after being loaded into the barriers the filly became fractious, reared and got both legs cast over the nearside barrier partition.  The filly was subsequently a late scratching at 12.20pm on veterinary advice.  The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Twistit be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 12.20pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket:

1st Reveal The Magic 3 cents win 8 cents place

2nd Pixel Perfect 5 cents place

Trainer Mr S Englebrecht was told Twistit must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

Pixel Perfect – after being loaded into the barriers, the filly became fractious and reared.  Pixel Perfect underwent a veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race.  Stable representative Mr S Alexiou was told a warning would be placed on the filly regarding its barrier manners.  Began awkwardly.

Fantasy Midnight – slow to begin.

RACE 2:  NHP Electrical Supports Rockwell Automation Maiden Plate 1200m

Skillet – on jumping was checked when badly crowded between Sundane and Krayzelburg, which shifted out abruptly.  Raced keenly in the early stages and rounding the first turn near the 1000m got its head up when being restrained away from the heels of Shielded.

Krayzelburg – began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.

King Cobra – slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Sundane – shortly after the start was crowded between Shielded and Krayzelburg, which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

Shielded – shortly after the start was bumped on two occasions by Sundane, which was taken out by Krayzelburg.

RACE 3:  Ascend From AFL Class 2 Handicap 1400m

Condor – became momentarily unbalanced passing the 600m.

Chamisal – passing the 300m was steadied away from the heels of Golden Hits (K Latham), which shifted to the outside of Pembroke Castle to improve.  K Latham was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is two lengths clear when shifting ground.

Total Power – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider A Gibbons stated that he was instructed to ride his mount with cover and, after beginning only fairly from his wide barrier, he was obliged to settle towards the rear of the field.  He said that his mount travelled comfortably in the middle stages when the tempo was slow, however, when he attempted to improve into the race from the 600m his mount failed to quicken, laid in in the straight and proved disappointing in its failure to finish its race off.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4:  TLE Newcastle Benchmark 64 Handicap 2350m

Watch The Cat – slow to begin (3L).  Held up approaching the home turn and did not obtain completely clear running until near the 300m.

Prince Coureuse – slow to begin (2L).  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Captain Americain – slow to begin.

Cass ‘N’ Black – slow to begin.  Raced wide and without cover until near the 1600m, where it assumed a position outside the leader Road To Blue Sky.

Loving Home – slow to begin.

By Design – began awkwardly.  Blundered making the crossing near the 1900m.

Road To Blue Sky – began awkwardly.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Chief Kidder – overraced throughout the early and middle stages.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5:  NHP Electrical Partners TLE Newcastle Maiden Plate 1880m

Wamwarra Bay – was a late scratching at 9.11am acting on veterinary advice that the gelding had sustained a laceration to its off-hind leg.  Trainer Mr J Drake was told a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Wamwarra Bay being permitted to race or barrier trial.

Following the running of race 4 all riders who rode in the event expressed concerns with the visibility they were afforded.  After interviewing a number of senior riders, the decision was made to postpone races 5 to 7 due to poor visibility and continuing rainfall.
