Cox Plate favourite Mystic Journey is set to brighten up the winter racing scene after she was entered for a first-up run in Saturday’s Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield.
The Australian Guineas and inaugural All-Star Mile winner last autumn was one of 20 horses nominated for the 1200-metre race – the final stakes race of the season in Melbourne.
Also among the Bletchingly nominations is another Group 1 winner Scales Of Justice, who is set for his first run since the Perth summer carnival late last year as well as last spring’s Mackinnon Stakes winner Trap For Fools.
Earlier this month, Mystic Journey’s trainer Adam Trinder told Racing.com he intended giving the rising four-year-old four lead-up runs into this spring’s Cox Plate but that he wasn’t locked into starting the mare off in the Bletchingly.
“The initial mindset at this stage is that we’ll (then) go the month into the Memsie Stakes at 1400 metres, but that may potentially be her kick-off point, we’ll just monitor that ground there for the Bletchingly,’’ Trinder said in the first week of July.
“If the ground is suitable then she’ll take her opportunity in the Bletchingly, if not we’ll just wait (until the Memsie) and start off over 1400 metres.’’
Mystic Journey currently holds favourtism for the $5 million Cox Plate ahead of Godolphin’s imported star Avilius.
