Kranji's Saturday meeting preview

Saturday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

The planets have aligned at Kranji as for the first time in the Singapore Turf Club’s history; three Group 1’s take place on the one race day.

Yes, it did take some juggling of dates and a bold move to open the Kranji Mile to international entries, but the effort has certainly paid dividends with the stand-alone Saturday evening meeting gaining worldwide attention.

And while the Lion City Cup and the Singapore Guineas look terrific races on paper and could carry a meeting in their own right, the $1.5 million Kranji Mile with three international entries is the one to watch.

Hong Kong runners will again be the major players in the feature with Casper Fownes saddling the likely favourite in SOUTHERN LEGEND while Tony Millard puts the finishing touches on HORSE OF FORTUNE.

Of the two, SOUTHERN LEGEND easily has the best recent form under his belt and the fact his trainer has won three International Group 1’s in Singapore, he is the horse to beat.

OCEAN EMPEROR represents New Zealand and given he brings winning Group form over the mile at his most recent start; he will have admirers and could spoil the Fownes party.

We can’t forget the local runners including CIRCUIT LAND, INFANTRY and ELITE EXCALIBUR who finished first, second and third respectively in the Chairman’s Trophy while VOLKSTOK’N’BARRELL at his Singapore debut could be the wildcard.

Best Bets: (SOUTHERN LEGEND race 9, win), (CHARGER race 4, value) and (TWICKENHAM race 10, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1, 4 and 15), race 8 (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 15 and 16), race 9 (1) and race 10 (1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 12).

Race 1

An extremely difficult race to start the programme especially given horses are often set for the big days and there could be a 'smokey' or two in this field - watch the market. As such, two Class droppers in HUMDINGER and BUENOS AIRES appeal. HUMDINGER is far from reliable but placed over this trip three starts back; with Vlad Duric replacing the inexperienced apprentice he could be ready for a big effort. BUENOS AIRES won twice on turf in Australia before arrival and his Class 3 poly form has been strong; he gets a significant drop in grade but is poorly drawn and has never placed beyond 1200m. Of the rest, WAIALAE was run down over 1600m following his maiden win so this trip will suit but he needs to overcome the gate while MR MOSA only battled when resuming but his previous efforts were sound and he could improve from the good gate. Strong cases can also be made for DUSSELDORF who won over this trip before arrival, SWEDISH MEMORIES who showed some improvement last start and gets Michael Rodd while BIG WAVE placed last start, can go forward from a good gate and gets the visiting Karis Teetan. Betting Strategy - HUMDINGER each-way.

1 BUENOS AIRES *** Racing soundly in Class 3 on poly and will appreciate this drop in grade. Won twice on turf in Australia before arrival but yet to place beyond 1200m. 6.00

2 HUMDINGER *** Placed over this trip four starts back but has struggled since. Drop in grade, turf and Vlad Duric will help. Can win. 6.00

3 ANGEL HALO ** Has put in fair performances at both Singapore outings but may be looking for longer. 33

4 MR MOSA *** Only battled when resuming but was due prior so happy to follow. 6.00

5 WAIALAE *** Run down over 1600m last start following Maiden win. Better suited this trip and can give a sight. 6.00

6 EL CHAPO ** Improved to break maiden status last start. This is harder and not helped by the gate. 20

7 GOOD CATCH ** Having first turf outing and winkers come off. Consistent on poly but only win was at 1000m and poorly drawn. 33

8 DUSSELDORF ** Won over this trip before arrival but has shown little at three poly starts. Trialled well in slow time and could improve. 8.00

9 SWEDISH MEMORIES ** Showed improvement last start and won up to 1500m before arrival. Gets Michael Rodd and should be running on. 8.00

10 BIG WAVE ** Placed last start in moderate field and only win was at this trip. Well drawn and with top rider can be prominent. 8.00

11 MASURAO ** Won one of these two starts back but only struggled last start. Not helped by gate. 16

12 SUN EMPIRE ** Has won seven times at this trip and can go forward from the wide gate. Keep safe. 33

13 AURORA AUSTRALIS ** Maiden who ran on well enough against the bias last start to think he has sorting to offer from gate 1 at odds. 33

14 MORALES * Tested on recent form. 50

15 SOUTHERN GLORY ** Only win this trip and battled on well enough last start to consider. 33

16 AMAZING MAN * Blundered, copped a bump and rider lost whip last start but only battled. Improvement needed. 33

Race 2

A mundane non-premier Class 4 brightened by a pair of well-bred 3YOs who may have the potential to at least partially live up to their pedigrees. LIM'S REVENT is by leading sire Redoute's Choice out of a good race mare Hussta La Vista who sold for 465K as a yearling; he showed some potential in Australia, has placed at both Singapore outings and can win with blinkers added. The other well-related one HENG KINGDOM is by the Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom out the unraced Pauline De Lago whose dam was the Golden Slipper winner, Burst. HENG KINGDOM has shown promise in Singapore winning a Maiden three starts back and putting in a solid effort over 1600m last start in this class. They could fight this out. Amongst the others, AUSPICIOUS DAY finally broke through last start and has placed at both attempts at this trip, he should be handy throughout. NOVA CLASSIC led and faded over this distance last start but gets a better gate and could improve. For the exotics, HIDDEN PROMISE is a class dropper, STAR JACK a potential improved and STAR DREAMER suited by the distance. Betting strategy - LIM'S REVENT win.

1 HIDDEN PROMISE *** Ignore last start over unsuitable journey. Gets blinkers and Vlad Duric. Poorly drawn but drops in grade and could improve over more suitable trip. 12

2 LIM'S REVENT *** Placed at both Singapore outings and gets blinkers. Showed enough in Australia to be up to this grade and should be hard to hold off. 3.00

3 KATE'S KEEPER ** 8YO who battled on solidly when resuming. Hasn't won for a while but should get a good run throughout and be running on over the final stages. 16

4 STAR JACK ** Ex-Japanese who led and boxed on well over this trip. Improving and can give a sight with Placais to ride. 12

5 AUSPICIOUS DAY *** Finally broke through last start and has placed at both attempts at this trip. Should be handy throughout. 7.00

6 HENG KINGDOM *** Ran on solidly last stat in similar company. Improving 3YO bred for this trip and longer. Should get a good run throughout and can be in the finish. 4.00

7 NOVA CLASSIC ** Led and faded over this trip last outing. Was used up from wide gate last time and could improve from the better draw. 12

8 DREAMER LEGEND ** Placed this class and distance three starts back and will find this more suitable than last outing over 1200m. 12

9 GALAXY EXPRESS ** Veteran who placed over 1800m in this class last outing. Happier in Class 5 over longer but has won at this trip and can show up from the good gate. 25

10 FALKIRK LEAD * Put in a fair effort over this trip three starts back but nothing since. Tongue-tie goes back on and distance suits but needs to improve. 33

11 RAFALE * Has had excuses and gets blinkers added but struggling. 50

12 SPUR ME ON * Likes to go forward but has battled at recent starts and needs to improve. 50

13 CHAIRMAN WIND * Only wins have been at this trip and carries no weight but better suited in Class 5. 20

14 PARKER * Needs to improve on recent efforts and gate no help. 50

15 SOUTHERN MAN ** Form poor and reared and took no part last start. Trial sans blinkers suggests he has more to offer. 50

16 PANACHE *** Racing consistently and distance suits with forward run expected. 12

Race 3

Often these Novice fields attract small fields but with a high percentage of last start winners. This is a near capacity field with only three last start winners but that does not detract from interest. The filly MISS DUSTY improved from her good debut to win easily over this trip last start. She is a half-sister to good Singapore horses Nova Swiss and Golden Sword; trained by Cliff Brown and to be ridden by Michael Rodd, she can go on with it. EYE GUY placed behind MISS DUSTY and given he had support on that occasion and gets a handy pull in the weights, senior hoop and gate 1, he goes close. The 4YO GREEN STAR is a likely type who won on his poly debut and could be the early flag-bearer for the Logan stable if he can score here. Of the others CROWN GOLD broke through on the poly last start while RED SYMPHONY is capable of improvement and can be included in exotics. Betting strategy: MISS DUSTY win, saver on EYE GUY.

1 GREEN STAR *** Won on the Poly at Singapore debut and placed over this trip in New Zealand before arrival. Should be prominent throughout. 3.00

2 RED SYMPHONY * Has speed but disappointed last start and not helped by gate. 14

3 SUN LION * Gets a tongue-tie and recent trial was fair but in badly at the conditions and needs to improve on effort when resuming. 50

4 CROWN GIFT *** Broke through on Poly last start and has placed at two of three turf outings. Gets blinkers and should be prominent. 6.00

5 MASTER OF MALIBU * Placed on poly in Class 4 last start but yet to place in three turf outings. 20

6 MISS DUSTY *** Improved from good debut to win easily last start over this trip and in best at the weights so hard to beat. 2.70

7 LOOKS GOOD * Placed in poly maiden over 1200m last start and gets blinkers but will find this harder and not well in at the conditions. 25

8 EXCALIBUR * Blinkers to winkers but did nothing at debut. 33

9 PUBLIC CONFIDENCE * Had support but well back at debut. This looks too hard. 33

10 SONORAN * Maiden who placed at two of three starts in Australia. Unsighted in trial. Watch market. 25

11 SATELLITE ROCKET * Resuming. Has shown little in races or trials. 50

12 EYE GUY *** Had support and showed promise at debut. Could show up from good gate. 10

13 LIM'S LIGHTNING * By Lope De Vega. Trial was fair but can find easier. 33

Race 4

The first of two Class 3 sprints and an extremely tough one for punters with more than half of the field having serious winning hopes (including both emergencies) but hopefully that depth equates to some value to be found and CHARGER could provide just that. The 3YO won a similar affair in March but subsequently found the two legs of the Three-Year-Old series too tough an assignment. Back to 1200m with blinkers added first time on the back of a good trial will see a return to form and he should be a solid each-way hope. I'VE GOT A FEELING has shown he is ready to win again after placing at his last three. The 4YO will appreciate being back on the turf and from gate 2 you would think John Powell will get all the favours. The former Kiwi, COMMAND ROYALE, ran on well enough at his Singapore debut to think he wins sooner than later for trainer Donna Logan, although he will need luck after drawing badly in gate 15. Of the rest with winning hopes, SKY ROCKET gets the services of Karis Teetan who will be hoping the 4YO can show his form from two starts back where he bolted home on a wet track while a former Hong Kong runner in OCULIST has trialed well enough locally to suggest he can show more in Singapore than he did at eight unplaced runs at Sha Tin and Happy Valley. Betting Strategy - CHARGER each-way.

1 COMMAND ROYALE *** Drawn wide but made a strong impression with support at Singapore debut and wins one soon. 4.00

2 I'VE GOT A FEELING *** Foot on the till and appreciates being back on the turf with forward run expected. 5.00

3 BIRAZ ** Best recent form on the Poly but gets blinkers and market a good guide. 20

4 TALES OF SUMMER *** Found out late last start but will lead and in this a very long way is any peace out front. 6.00

5 BATTLE OF TROY ** Resuming with two solid trials under this belt. Should be competitive late but wide gate makes it tough. 50

6 CHARGER *** Found it all too hard in the 3YO series but freshened by a very nice trial and goes close with blinkers on first time. 12

7 KOLOMBIA *** First up run after a change of stables was very good and pay to follow. 12

8 SKY ROCKET *** Did not disgrace himself in this company after big win in Class 4 on rain effected track and must be respected. 4.00

9 UNSURPASSED * Form only fair and rarely seen on the turf but won well the last time he raced this surface. Take on trust. 33

10 SPLINTER * Solid without being a threat last start and a better option on the Poly. 33

11 LIM'S REFORM ** Caused a boil-over when winning over 1000m on the Poly last start and handles the turf so another to keep safe. 20

12 ARES * Struggling. 200

13 CONILAD * Competitive without being a threat of late and looking for easier. 50

14 OCULIST *** Australian-bred who arrives via HK where he failed to flatter. Local trial good enough to consider at Singapore debut at value. 20

15 MR COLIN *** Disappointing with heavy support in similar affair last start but best work late suggests he is worth another look. 6.00

16 IMPERIAL WIN *** Another that had support and excuses last start in similar affair and can improve from gate 1. 12

Race 5

A very weak Class 4 field and as such, a recent Class dropper in ELISE gets his chance. The 4YO knocked in back-to-back wins in this Company back in January and given he struggled in Class 3 and his last three runs have been on the Poly, he can go forward and show his best back on the turf. Also in his favour is that nothing jumps off the page to beat him, although ELANA OF AVALOR did the look the winner at stages of her most recent start and certainly appreciates a better gate. KATAGAS - with Alexis Badel to ride - is also due and while drawn wide in gate 10, he will get back and be running on strongly with blinkers downgraded to winkers and a tongue-tie added for good measure. Of the others with winning hopes, PARAGON STAR was very disappointing with support last start but was due prior, while BOARD WALK is honest and a recent good trial has him under notice. Betting Strategy - ELISE win.

1 SOLO SUN ** Former Australian who won once (mile) from seven starts. Local trials have been solid. Market best guide. 10

2 ELISE *** Has struggled since back-to-back wins in January but Class 4 on the turf is his caper. 5.00

3 KATAGAS *** Long time since last win but look due with best work expected late with blinkers to winkers and tongue-tie on. 4.00

4 BOARD WALK ** Did it tough last start and recent trial was solid so worth including in exotics at value. 12

5 TARO SAN * One-time winner (Tamworth) from Australia who has had quiet local trials so market only guide. 33

6 HYDE PARK ** Drawn very wide and yet to place on the turf but has ability so worth some thought at odds. 20

7 MORNING TURF * Maiden from Australis who showed little at local trial. Not for me. 100

8 PARAGON STAR *** Very disappointing with support last start in similar affair but was due prior so worth another look. 6.00

9 ELENA OF AVALOR *** Looked the winner at stages late as favourite last start and has trialled solidly since. Goes close from fair gate. 4.00

10 GAIN ECLIPSE *** Drawn wide and never a winning threat at Singapore debut but showed enough to follow in this company. 12

11 GLORIA ECLIPSE * Former Malaysian who only battled at Singapore debut but did do it tough. Might need easier. 33

12 BRILLIANT ONE * Resuming and should need easier and longer. 50

13 LUCKY BOY * Competitive on his day but looking for Class 5. 50

14 MILITARY ALLIANCE * Needs easier, longer and Poly. 200

15 PERFECT GIRL * Maiden who needs easier. 100

16 FIGHTING WARRIOR * Desperate for Class 5 but works home well when on song so can always surprise. 33

Race 6

YULONG XIONGYIN was very impressive winning at his Singapore debut and happy to think the former Irish galloper can go on with the job today. Yes, the 4YO is up in Class and drawn awkwardly in gate 11, however he made every post a winner with support on that occasion and he will be hard to beat in this. He is also the only last start winner in the capacity field although two horses with recent wins to their names in SCORPIO and QUEEN ROULETTE will keep him honest. SCORPIO in particular has found a rich vein of form since moving to the red-hot Michael Clements stable. His last start placing on the back of three straight wins suggests he goes very close on the back of a nice recent trial. QUEEN ROULETTE showed (when winning) two starts back that the turf is her preferred surface and like SCORPIO, she would have lost few friends when finishing a close-up third at her most recent outing. Another horse that loves the turf is WONDERFUL KNIGHT so he looks the big improver back on the grass with a very forward run expected while conversely, MR SCORSESE will be doing his best work late with winkers added a factor dropping back from the mile. Keep RIVER GOLDEN at each-way odds safe with Alexis Badel a factor while Karis Teetan’s ride - BENGAL LANCER – should improve on what was a solid Singapore debut with the market best guide. Betting Strategy - RIVER GOLDEN each-way.

1 MR SCORSESE *** Back in trip some concern but has been freshened and gets winkers so keep safe. 12

2 QUEEN ROULETTE *** Backed up solid win with very good effort - both on the turf - and right in this. 5.00

3 BIG MAN * Just battled last start and wide gate makes this tough. 50

4 VON KRUMM * Resuming sans tongue-tie after a poor run of form but recent trials good enough to include in exotics at odds. 20

5 SCORPIO *** Resuming after being in the mix last start after three wins in-a-row and recent trial good enough to win this. 3.00

6 ATHENA ** Pay to ignore last stat on the Poly as the turf is her caper and should improve. 50

7 MYSTIC MASTER ** Very disappointing last start and drawn wide but has ability and could show up with blinkers off with a 4kg claim. 20

8 YULONG XIONGYIN *** Impressed when making every post the winner at Singapore debut and should more than handle the step up in Class. Can win. 3.00

9 BENGAL LANCER ** Appreciates solid Singapore debut and subsequent solid trials but should need longer to show his best. 20

10 GOLD CROWN ** Will need easier to win but honest enough to include in exotics from gate 2. 33

11 GOODFELLAS * Needs to improve. 200

12 TERMS OF REFERENCE ** Form only fair and looking or easier but recent trial good enough to think he improves. 50

13 WONDERFUL KNIGHT *** May pay to ignore last couple as better back on the turf and could run a very cheeky race. 20

14 RIVER GOLDEN ** Not going to win out of turn but honest and will work home strongly. Each way. 20

15 FAITHFULLY * Resuming after bleeding attack and may need easier and the Poly. 100

16 UNCLE LUCKY * Blinkers off but another that needs easier and the Poly. 100

Race 7

While there are a few horses - including three 3YO's - trying their luck above their class in Singapore's most prestigious sprint race, the cream should rise to the top and it may be a race in two between COUNTOFMONTECRISTO and last year's winner, LIM'S CRUISER. Nothing separates the pair on paper but LIM'S CRUISER did do it tougher in the Merlion and while drawn wide in gate 13, he should get a softer run in transit on the more forgiving turf track, and be hard to hold out with Glen Boss a factor. COUNTOFMONTECRISTO gets to jump from gate 3, which is definitely in his favour as he can race on pace and should look the winner at some stage late. The 4YO also gives the newly (Singapore) licensed Alysha Collett a big chance to knock in what would be her biggest win. Interestingly, Michael Rodd jumped off 'The Count' to ride boom 3YO, MISTER YEOH, and while this is a huge leap of faith at just his fifth career start, he did win the 3YO Classic and is the wildcard in this field. Nothing else jumps off the page to win, however ARAMCO won the Rocket Man Sprint - albeit at handicap conditions - while RAFAELLO will be prominent throughout and FORTUNE WINNER will be flying late. Betting Strategy - LIM'S CRUISER win.

1 COUNTOFMONTECRISTO *** Looked the winner everywhere bar the line in the Merlion Trophy and hard to beat in this. 3.00

2 DISTINCTIVE DARCI ** Has grown a proverbial leg since blinkers were added three starts back but still a query on the turf so take on trust. 16

3 ALIBI ** Versatile and ran second in this race last year but probably needs to find a couple of lengths to be a winning threat this time in. 20

4 LIM'S CRUISER *** Won this race last year. Did it tough last start in the Merlion and that effort good enough to win again this year. 3.00

5 POSEIDON * Resuming and WFA conditions first up makes this a tough ask. 50

6 ARAMCO ** Won the Rocket Man Sprint with no weight before solid effort after tough run in the Merlion. Value. 20

7 MR FANTASTIC * Hard to consider in this field on recent form. 50

8 SKYWALK * Has won twice on the turf but does look better suited on the Poly at this level. 20

9 SUPER FORTUNE * Disappointing with no weight with heavy support in the Rocket Man Sprint and not suited at the WFA conditions. 12

10 RAFAELLO ** Tested at WFA conditions but has an excellent winning strike rate and always puts himself into the mix. 12

11 RAISE NO DOUBT * Backed up surprise win with solid outing on the Poly but this looks too tough an ask. 50

12 CONSTANT JUSTICE * Hard to have on form against this field but jockey did report issues last start and recent trial with blinkers added suggests he may be the improver at odds. 50

13 PAPARAZZI * Gets Purton but big step up in Class and place looks very best. 20

14 FORTUNE WINNER ** Ran on super late at long odds in the Merlion and worth including in the skinny end of exotics on that effort. 50

15 MISTER YEOH *** Won the 3YO Classic over 1400m and bypassing the Guineas for this. Has big wraps and could surprise. 12

16 ZAC KASA * Another 3YP from the Brown stable trying his luck in WFA Open Company. Has ability but wide gate a big concern. 50

Race 8

Selections; 1 BE BEE - 15 NOVA VOCAL - 2 EAGLE EYE - 8 LORD OF CLOUD

While a couple of horses, including the exciting NOVA VOCAL, come through other pathways, the Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic is the obviously place to start the form and BE BEE is the horse to beat from that race. The Shane Baertschiger-trained gelding won the Sprint before just missing when running on strongly in the Classic and given the horse that beat him on that occasion - MR YEOH - is entered in the Lion City Cup, he will be extremely hard to hold out over the mile. Others that ran on well over the 1400m of the Classic, and must be considered, include KING LOUIS, QUARTER BACK and TESORO PRIVADO while LORD OF CLOUD did a ‘Pakistan Star’ and refused to go a yard early when bucking and could be the value runner with 1600m in his favour. MR CLINT also ran on strongly from well back in the Classic and while he was never a danger on that occasion, his trainer - Lee Freedman – gave him what was a winning workout last Friday over 1400m and that could be a masterful move by the Australian Hall-of-Famer. The wildcard is the 3YO Irish-bred gelding, NOVA VOCAL who burst into Guineas calculations with a very strong win in Class 4 Company last Friday. He had blinkers on for the first time on that occasion and while tested in this Company and a query at the trip, he could be one out-of-the-box and give Karis Teetan another feature win in Singapore. EAGLE EYE - just one of four Ricky Le Grange runners - impressed when just missing at his Singapore debut in Class 3 Company and given he won at Listed level over 1400m in Argentina before arriving, he could be a big show in 3YO Company. Betting Strategy - BE BEE win, saver on LORD OF CLOUD at odds.

1 BE BEE *** Won the Sprint before working home well to just miss in the Classic. Hard to hold out here. 4.00

2 EAGLE EYE *** Did it tough at Singapore debut before narrowly going down. Won at 1400m in Listed Company in Argentina before arriving so keep safe. 20

3 MR CLINT *** Ran on well in the Classic and given good work out when winning last Friday in preparation for this. Big show. 6.00

4 KING LOUIS ** Ran on super late to place in the Classic but did look a tad flat at recent trial. Watch market. 12

5 TESORO PRIVADO *** Wide gate a worry but showed more than enough in the Classic to think he can win over a more suitable trip. 10

6 YABADABADOO * Just battled in at the business end of the Classic and not for me. 100

7 CAPTAIN JAMIE ** Not a mile away in Classic and yet another Le Grange runner who will make his presence felt late. 20

8 LORD OF CLOUD *** Bucked for some distance in the Classic so blinkers go on and always looked a Guineas type so keep safe at long odds. 50

9 LORD O'REILLY ** Slightly disappointing in the Classic but was doing best work on the line so worth another look in a race that suits. 33

10 TERRIFIC ** In good form and honest but tested this level and wide gate makes it tough. 33

11 MR DUJARDIN ** Won maiden this trip on debut but subsequent good runs including last start win over longer. Will keep them honest late. 12

12 SUPER DYNASTY ** Competitive without being a threat last Friday in Class 3 Company but previous win solid so another to keep safe. 33

13 FUSION POWER * Handy enough type but tested this level. 33

14 WHAT'S NEW ** Had support when just missing behind Terrific last start and should figure at the business end. 12

15 NOVA VOCAL *** Very exciting Irish gelding who will get support on the back of strong win last Friday but having first start on the turf and up in trip. 5.00

16 QUARTER BACK *** Ran on well from wide gate in the Classic and looks one to follow. 12

17 BIG WAVE * Found some form but tested this level. 50

Race 9

It’s no secret that Hong Kong horses have dominated Singapore International races in recent years with trainers John Moore and Caspar Fownes with six wins between them. And while Mr Moore and his much-loved safari suits will be watching on from Hong Kong, Fownes will be saddling SOUTHERN LEGEND who looks extremely hard to beat in the Kranji Mile. The Australian-bred 5YO is in terrific form placing twice over the mile at Group 1 level in 2018 and lead throughout to win over the mile in Class 1 (and Pakistan Star) Company two starts back. Add the bang-in-form Zac Purton and you would think that Casper Fownes can add another Group win to his international CV. Who beats him? Obviously the Hong Kong form more than stands up so HORSE OF FORTUNE has to be a show on best form, although the fact he hasn’t won since June 2017 and is yet to place at three runs in 2018 is a concern. But he rarely races out of Group Company and a recent sharp trial should hold him in good stead in this field. The other international invitee is OCEAN EMPEROR from New Zealand and connections would have been ecstatic when he won over the mile at Group 2 level in March before preparing for this race, and he has to be respected. Of the locals, CIRCUIT LAND - who had found his level in Hong Kong before relocating to Singapore early in 2018 – took only two runs to show he is up to the best at Kranji when winning the Chairman’s Trophy and given he did it tough in running, he must go close here with Alexis Badel to ride. CIRCUIT LAND just got the better of INFANTRY on that occasion and the reigning Singapore Horse-of-the-Year has to be respected as he is honest, tough and more than handles the occasion with Singapore Champion jockey, Vlad Duric, to ride. The interesting runner is the ex-Kiwi Group 1 winner, VOLKSTOK’N’BARREL, who makes his local debut for trainer Donna Logan, and while he should need longer to show his very best and has never won first-up before, he certainly has some class on his side and could make it interesting late. ELITE EXCALIBUR and PREDITOR are two others to include in exotics but they may be a yard or three behind the Hong Kong raiders Betting Strategy - SOUTHERN LEGEND strong win.

1 SOUTHERN LEGEND *** Hong Kong raider who is in form, has top rider and trainer who has an exceptional strike rate in Singapore. Hardest to beat. 1.80

2 VOLKSTOK'N'BARRELL ** Multiple group 1 winner form New Zealand who will race under the Singapore flag after relocating with Donna Logan. Should be running on but may need further. 20

3 HORSE OF FORTUNE ** Hong Kong Group 3 winner who also had success in South Africa. Finished fourth two back over 1800m and should figure in the mix on best form. 8.00

4 OCEAN EMPEROR ** Kiwi raider who won over the mile at Group 2 level in March. Will have admirers and could give a sight if he brings his 'A Game'. 8.00

5 CIRCUIT LAND ** Former Hong Kong Group performer who took two runs to make his mark at the top level in Singapore. Best of the locals. 8.00

6 ELITE EXCALIBUR ** Excuses not to finish closer to Circuit Land in the Chairman's Trophy and will make his presence felt late. 16

7 INFANTRY ** Reigning Singapore Horse of the Year who was gallant in defeat in the Chairman's Trophy and should figure prominently in this. 10

8 PREDITOR ** Showed last start he is more than competitive at WFA level and could add value to exotics. 20

9 CLARTON SUPER * Never really got going in the Chairman's Trophy but form prior suggests he could play a part at odds. 33

10 NOVA STRIKE * Not a mile away in the Chairman's Trophy at odds which showed the turf is no issue at this level. Keep safe in exotics. 33

11 MAXIMUS * Poly specialist who has yet to win on the turf and tested at WFA conditions. 50

12 MAJESTIC MOMENTS * Resuming and always competitive but place looks very best first up in this field. 50

13 IRON MAN * Tested at WFA Group level. 100

Race 10

A terrific race to finish what is arguably the best days racing seen in Singapore in many years, and while perhaps not quite up to WFA Group level, a few of the runners would not have been out of place in the Kranji Mile. At the top of the weights, two Shane Baertschiger runners in BLUE SWEDE and BEST TOTHELIGN look suited over the mile to run big races and both will be working into winning calculations late. Likewise, SONG TO THE MOON will be working into the prize money over the final furlong while down in the weights, AOTEAROA and WINNING CAUSE will also be closing fast late and cannot be discounted, although this field is obviously a step up from Kranji Stakes B Company. But it may be a couple of important jockey bookings that make the difference in this race. Zac Purton replaces an apprentice on TWICKENHAM and given the 7YO is coming off a very nice trial that change is significant, while DEE DEE D'OR is due and Alexis Badel from gate 2 will give him very chance. Betting Strategy - TWICKENHAM win.

1 BLUE SWEDE *** First-up effort against the bias was good and get this chance in what looks a suitable affair. 5.00

2 BEST TOTHELIGN *** Ran on well second up over 1400m and will be working into this late. 8.00

3 TWICKENHAM *** Disappointing last start but subsequent trial was very good and forward run expected with Purton a factor. 10

4 DANCE IN THE WIND ** Did it tough when resuming but likes to go forward and cheeky run expected. 20

5 SONG TO THE MOON *** Has been running on well at his last couple and could show up in this race with blinkers back on. 12

6 KIRKS RYKER ** Did it tough last start and has trialled well since so look for improvement. 33

7 DEE DEE D'OR *** In the mix but never looked like winning as favourite last start but looks due and drop back to the mile shouldn't be a concern. 6.00

8 MCGREGOR ** Not a mile away at long odds last start and pay to follow with gate 1 a factor. 33

9 ARHAT ** In form and will be running on but may need longer to show his very best. 12

10 AOTEAROA *** Returned to form when running on to be in the mix last start and worth a look with no weight from gate 3. 6.00

11 DICTON ** Form better than it reads and improves again with two races under his belt over more ground. 33

12 WINNING CAUSE *** Ran on super to just miss last start and expect much the same with no weight over the mile. 8.00

13 COULD BE PEARLS ** Will find this tougher than Class 3 Company but another that will work into this late with no weight. 12

14 EASTER MATE * Excuses last start but wide gate in tis Company suggests skinny end of exotics at best. 33
