The Darren Weir trained Kings Will Dream (IRE) is now the favourite for the $5m, Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on Saturday after initially sharing $5.00 with the Chris Waller trained Youngstar after the barrier draw on Wednesday morning. Youngstar has since drifted slightly out to $5.50.
Kings Will Dream drew barrier six for Craig Williams with 53kg and Youngstar barrier 10 for Kerrin McEvoy with 51.5kg.
Both are coming off placings to Winx in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes over 2000m at Flemington on October 6th. Queensland Oaks winner Youngstar was second with Kings Will Dream third and they carried 54.5kg and 56.5kg respectively under the terms of the Turnbull Stakes.
“Kings Will Dream has had the ideal Caulfield Cup lead up and is the one to beat,” TAB’s Nick Quinn said.
“After controversially withdrawing favourite Yucatan from the race, Team Williams has three runners in the race with The Taj Mahal at $18 after drawing barrier 19, Homesman at $13 after drawing barrier four and The Cliffsofmoher at $6.50 after drawing barrier three.
“It is an incredibly strong and open Cup with just three runners in single figure odds.”
Kings Will Dream was $101 to win the Caulfield Cup back on February 12.
Several smart punters got on at those odds, including one TAB customer that placed $100 each-way at $101/$26 on February 17.
