Ken Callander weighs in on The Hotham

The legendary Ken Callander has come out of retirement to give his expert opinion on $75,000 The Hotham (1200m) at Ballarat on Friday.
The prominent former journalist rates Brian Gentle as a trainer, and with two horses well and truly in contention in the betting, he is not wrong reported
“All The Wine will be right in the market. It’s been placed over 1000 meters which shows it has some speed. He’s got Dean Yendall aboard, and Dean Yendall on a country track? That spells money,” said Callander.
He also talks about the naming misfit for the $4.60 second favourite Pujols.

“He’s named after Albert Pujols who signed a $240 million contract playing baseball in the US… he’s a superstar and then they name a horse like this after him. C’mon Pujols, you’ve got to be better,” said Callander.
“Mental As Anything has to be considered as none of his rivals have ever won a race and this fellow has placed plenty of times. Today could be the day for Mental As Anything.”
In terms of the returning cult hero that emerged from last year’s race, Beau Dazzle, he has the advice for trainer Dean Boal to “look elsewhere” as he certainly won’t be listening to any tips on the beloved mare.
