He stated, however, after beginning particularly well and when the pace was only moderate in the early stages, Natanya raced more prominently. He added that, despite being trapped three wide throughout, he was disappointed in that his mount was under pressure passing the 600m and did not respond to his riding in the straight. He further added that in his view the mare may be better suited ridden back in the field at its next start. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

He said, however that he then unable to obtain cover and his mount was obliged to race three wide throughout. He added that his mount pulled hard throughout the event, which in his view had also contributed to the gelding failing to find the line. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Say Goodbye – Raced fiercely in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward.

Autocratic – When questioned, C. Lever stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position and anticipated racing outside the leader Regal Stage, however, his mount began awkwardly, contacted its offside gate and, as a consequence, was slow to begin (2L). He further stated that his mount overraced in the early and middle stages and, after the 900m, hung out across the heels of Bondi Boy and had to be checked. He added that Autocratic continued to hang out for the remainder of the event and furthermore did not respond to his riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned, stable representative Mr C. McCullagh stated that, in his view, after missing the start, the colt was unsuited by racing further back in the field compared to its customary forward position. Mr McCullagh was advised that, bearing in mind the colt’s tractability today and poor performance, it would be required to barrier trial to the Stewards’ satisfaction prior to being permitted to race again.

RACE 8: Kembla Grange Maiden Plate 1600m:

Brilliance Squared – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, App. J. Van Overmeire stated that in pre-race discussions with Trainer Mr A. Cummings it was decided that as there did not appear to be much pace in the race and also bearing in mind that the rail was out considerably today the gelding would be ridden more forward. As a consequence, he was able to take a forward position behind the leaders. He added in respect of the horse’s performance that his mount travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages, however, was under pressure from the 400m and proved disappointing in the fashion in which it weakened in the run to the line. The only explanation that App. Van Overmeire could offer for the performance was that the gelding may have lacked some fitness, bearing in mind that it had not raced since 10 August 2019. Trainer Mr A. Cummings will be interviewed in relation to both the instructions and the performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
