The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stewards on Thursday morning interviewed Mr J Moore, the trainer of EAGLE WAY, a declared runner in this race, as well as J Moreira who has been engaged to ride that horse in The Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday regarding J Moreira dismounting from EAGLE WAY after that horse worked this morning.
Jockey Moreira stated that at the end of this morning’s gallop EAGLE WAY became unbalanced and therefore he dismounted from EAGLE WAY to ensure that there were no issues with the horse. He said EAGLE WAY was not obviously lame and that his decision to dismount from the horse was precautionary only.
Mr Moore stated that on return to the stable EAGLE WAY was found to be sound and that at this time there are no issues with the horse which would prevent it from taking its place in its intended race.
Dr P Curl, Executive Manager, Veterinary Regulation, has subsequently inspected EAGLE WAY and reported that there were no significant findings in respect of the horse.
In accordance with routine practice, EAGLE WAY will be inspected on Saturday, 26 May 2018 at the time that every runner scheduled to compete at the Sha Tin Racemeeting on Sunday, 27 May 2018 is examined.
A further release will be issued if necessary.
