The Tony McEvoy trained Group 1 sprinter Hey Doc has been nominated for the US$2.1m Grade 1 Sprinter Stakes (1200m) at Nakayama on September 30th along with James Garfield (IRE) from the UK and Lucky Bubbles (AUS) from Hong Kong.
Hey Doc, a five-year-old Duprth gelding, has not been seen since an unplaced run in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Flemington in February. In 2017 Hey Doc had a steller year winning the Group 1 Australian Guineas over 1600m at Flemington in the summer and the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in the spring.
He also won the 2016 Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley and is a duel Group 3 winner. Overall Hey Doc has won eight of his 19 starts and with three placings earned stakes of $1,775,900.
If Hey Doc is to contest the Sprinters Stakes, won last year by Red Falx, he will need to arrive in Japan on September 20th.
