As C Lever was indisposed due to injury, the following rider substitutions were permitted by the Stewards:

As R Brewer was indisposed due to an injury to his ribs sustained in the barriers in Race 1, the following rider substitutions were permitted by the Stewards:

RACE 1 – Parravans Caravan World 3yo Maiden Handicap 1000m
Don't Judge Me – began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 100m, Don't Judge Me laid in across the heels of The Sprooker obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount near the 75m. Don't Judge Me was then directed to the outside of The Sprooker’s heels to improve into clear running. Over the concluding stages, was unable to be fully tested when awkwardly placed close to the heels of All Ours.
All Ours – began awkwardly.
The Mont – shortly after the start, was bumped by Mulberry Walk, which shifted out.
Gina Rinehoof – despite the efforts of its rider in the early stages, was unable to muster speed and lost contact with the main body of the field.
Mulberry Walk – laid out under pressure over the final 200m. When questioned, rider B Shinn could offer no tangible explanation for the performance of the filly. He added that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, his mount failed to respond to his riding. He said that in his opinion the filly would derive benefit from today’s race experience. A post race veterinary examination revealed Mulberry Walk to be slow to recover. Co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance which was having its first race start.
RACE 2 – Nor-West Jets Maiden Plate 1800m
Calaway Dancer – was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Whangamata – slow to begin. Rider N Barzalona was issued a reprimand under AR137A(4)(b) for raising his whip above shoulder height. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have blood in its mouth due to a tooth being dislodged.
High Potential – was held up approaching and rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
Tavisfaction – passing the 400m, was disappointed for a run between Calaway Dancer and Westrock and was held up until passing the 300m. Tavisfaction was then directed to the inside of Whangmata to improve into clear running. L Magorrian pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, five more than permitted under the rules. L Magorrian was fined $600. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Norma Jeane – approaching the 400m, had to be steadied when crowded for room between Scratches and High Potential (K O’Hara), which shifted out when not quite clear. K O'Hara was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Aeecee Delighted – laid out rounding the home turn. Rider K Jennings pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, four more than permitted under the rules. K Jennings was fined $200.
RACE 3 – Dr Super CG&E Maiden Handicap 1300m
Vicissitudes – trainer Ms W Ings was fined $200 under AR 140B for the late application to remove the cross over nose band. Vicissitudes raced keenly in the middle stages. Vicissitudes laid in under pressure in the straight. Near the 100m, Vicissitudes had to be eased when momentarily tightened for room to the inside of Scarpa.
Red Gamble – began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 19 lengths, revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr K May was advised that an official warning would be placed on the gelding's record for being uncompetitive.
Touch of Purple – overraced in the early and middle stages and refused to settle.
Street Rogue – overraced in the early and middle stages and refused to settle. Passing the 800m, had to be shifted to the outside of Frugal when continuing to overrace.
Aggarwal – raced wide and without cover until passing the 800m when it was able to obtain cover on the back of Brown Thomas.
Brown Thomas – passing the 800m, was hampered and taken wider by Street Rogue and as a result was left racing wide and without cover from this point. Brown Thomas laid in under pressure in the straight obliging its rider to stop riding and correct her mount near the 150m. Brown Thomas then continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.
Starring – was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
RACE 4 – Mr Taxman F&M Maiden Handicap 1300m
Sweetest Eyes – slow to begin. Shortly after the start, was hampered by Etheridge, which shifted out after beginning awkwardly. Sweetest Eyes raced wide and without cover. Trainer Mr M Smith was reminded of his obligations to notify Stewards of any change of tactics at least 30 minutes before the running of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Zippy Mississippi – began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Fertile Soil – began awkwardly and made contact with the offside partition of its barrier resulting in its rider J Van Overmeire becoming unbalanced. When questioned, rider J Van Overmeire could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of the filly. He added his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however when he placed his mount under pressure shortly after straightening, his mount failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing in its efforts to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Etheridge – from its wide barrier, was steadied and shifted in behind runners.
Kinvarra Star – raced greenly in the straight.
Meale – after being presented in the mounting enclosure, it was noticed that the saddle was incorrectly fitted necessitating it having to be re-saddled in the tie up stalls which resulted in a slight delay to the running of the race. Trainer Mr W Attard was reprimanded under AR140A(2).
RACE 5 – Sieders Truck Repairs Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000m
Miss Casier – shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Bel’s Boy, which shifted out. App R Hunt pleaded guilty to charges under AR137A(5)(a)(i) and (ii) in that she used the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, including two consecutives. App Hunt was issued a reprimand under part (i) and fined $400 under part (ii) of the Rule.
Notre Reve – raced keenly in the middle stages. Near the 350m, was briefly inconvenienced by Marrock, which laid out.
Marrock – slow to begin. Marrock had to be steadied away from the heels of Notre Reve approaching the 600m when overracing. Marrock laid out under pressure in the straight.
My Little Racer – from its wide barrier, was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start.
Little Red Shoes – laid in under pressure in the straight.
Bel's Boy – laid in under pressure in the straight and near the 150m, when racing in restricted room between Military Academy and Little Red Shoes, which laid in, had to be directed to the outside of Little Red Shoes to continue into clear running.
Le Dejuener – a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
RACE 6 – Bears Of Hope Class 1 Handicap 1300m
Zidane – after being slow to begin, failed to muster speed despite the efforts of its rider. As a result, it was left racing wide and without cover. Zidane laid in under pressure in the straight. Near the 350m, Zidane made contact with the hindquarter of Kathaire whilst laying in.
Whanau Force – slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Kathaire – shortly after the start was hampered by Painted Wall, which shifted in after beginning awkwardly. Kathaire, near the 400m, made contact with Clifton County and became momentarily unbalanced. B Spriggs (Zidane) pleaded to a guilty to a charge under AR137(a) in that passing the 200m, he permitted his mount to shift in whilst insufficiently clear of Kathaire, resulting in Kathaire having to be checked when crowded for room between Zidane and Clifton County. As a result, Kathaire lost its rightful running. B Spriggs licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 18 July 2018 and to expire on Friday, 27 July 2018 on which day he may ride.
Painted Wall – approaching the 1000m, when being restrained, got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle. Painted Wall laid in under pressure in the straight. When questioned regarding the performance, A Hyeronimus stated that after travelling well in the early stages, Painted Wall commenced to overrace approaching the 1000m when being restrained to allow Dragon’s Shadow to cross his mount and race in the lead. He said that from this point, Painted Wall never travelled comfortably and was under pressure from the home turn and was disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Dragon's Shadow – laid in under pressure in the straight.
Clifton County – near the 400m, made contact with Kathaire.
RACE 7 – Beards Of Hope Cup Class 1 Handicap (Scaled + 1.0kg) 1500m
The Cartoonist – after rearing in the barriers on two occasions, was examined by the Club's veterinary officer and deemed unsuitable to race and was a late withdrawal at 3.52pm. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on The Cartoonist be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 3.52pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket.
1st Savona Sunset 13 cents win, 15 cents place
2nd Contemplate 20 cents place
Stable representative Ms Brister was advised that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next race start. A veterinary examination of The Cartoonist revealed it to have a small abrasion on the jaw.
Savona Sunset – laid in under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride. Savona Sunset was held up rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the mare racing further back today, rider J Collett stated he was issued no specific instructions, however anticipated taking up a forward position. He explained that after beginning only fairly, and when Soviet, the anticipated leader, and Yesteryear which was drawn to his outside showed superior speed, he elected to ease his mount to take up a position towards the rear of the field.
Yesteryear – raced wide and without cover in the early stages and after racing ungenerously, was allowed to stride forward and assume a position outside the leader, Soviet, near the 1100m. Yesteryear laid in under pressure in the straight. Near the 350m, the whip of its rider became entangled in its offside rain.
Soviet – a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cardiac arrhythmia. Co-trainer Mr A Bott was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance, including a satisfactory ECG, before barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next race start.
RACE 8 – Choosing Hope Walk Provincial Benchmark 70 1800m
Lifeline Princess – the Stewards considered an objection lodged by J Van Overmeire, rider of fourth placegetter, against the eventual winner King Tomlola (R Freeman-Key) alleging interference at approximately the 150m. After taking evidence from all relevant parties and after viewing the official patrol films, the Stewards found that approaching the 150m, King Tomlola shifted out, resulting in Save The Best being taken out into the running of Lifeline Princess. As a result, Lifeline Princess was hampered and taken wider by Save The Best. Bearing in mind the margin of one length, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference to Lifeline Princess not occurred that that runner would have finished in advance of King Tomlola, the protest was dismissed and correct weight declared on the judge's placings. Passing the 400m, Lifeline Princess, when laying in, made contact with Ausbred Diamond on a number of occasions.
Ausbred Diamond – began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide and without cover throughout.
Alsoknownas – shortly after the start, was crowded for room between Lippy And Pearls and Lifeline Princess, which shifted in. R Freeman-Key (King Tomlola) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 150m when insufficiently clear of Save The Best, which was taken out on to Lifeline Princess, which had to be eased and was taken out on to Alsoknownas, which was severely checked and lost its rightful running. R Freeman-Key’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 24 July 2018 and to expire on Saturday, 4 August 2018 on which day she may ride.
Lippy And Pearls – raced keenly in the middle stages.
Save The Best – over the concluding stages was unable to be fully tested when placed close to the heels of King Tomlola.

King Tomlola – laid out under pressure in the straight.
