Race:1 (434) FANLING HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

FIRE AND GOLD was withdrawn on 19.2.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter KEEP GOING (Apprentice C Wong). Before being allowed to race again, FIRE AND GOLD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WINNING CIRCLE began only fairly.
PERFECT CHOICE was crowded for room on jumping between KEEP GOING and REAL GIANT which shifted out after beginning only fairly.
SHOW MISSION was crowded for room on jumping between OUR HONOUR and TRENDIFUL, both of which shifted a minimal amount of ground. In this incident, TRENDIFUL became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by SHOW MISSION.
From the outside barrier, NASHASHUK was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
After being steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover, MONEY MARSHAL commenced to prove difficult to settle passing the 900 Metres and got its head up when momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of HAPPY SOUND. After this, MONEY MARSHAL was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 1100 Metres, RAICHU was awkwardly placed close to the heels of OUR HONOUR which was steadied to obtain cover.
Near the 750 Metres, NASHASHUK shifted out abruptly when proving difficult to settle and awkwardly placed close to the heels of OUR HONOUR.
Passing the 500 Metres, OUR HONOUR and NASHASHUK raced tight as OUR HONOUR shifted to the outside of HAPPY SOUND.
Rounding the Home Turn, HAPPY SOUND lay out and raced tight inside MONEY MARSHAL.
WINNING CIRCLE got its head on the side and lay in passing the 300 Metres.
Approaching the 200 Metres, RAICHU momentarily raced tight outside WINNING CIRCLE which shifted out.
Near the 50 Metres, KEEP GOING shifted in and raced tight outside RAICHU.
Both M Harley (HAPPY SOUND) and H N Wong (REAL GIANT) were spoken to regarding using the whip on their respective mounts when out of contention.
When questioned, M Harley stated that he was asked to attempt to take up a forward position on HAPPY SOUND, however, if the horse did not show sufficient speed to obtain a forward position, he should attempt to have it in no worse than midfield. He said after HAPPY SOUND began well, in accordance with his instructions, he rode his mount along, however, HAPPY SOUND did not show enough speed to be able to obtain a position with the leaders. He said he therefore was able to obtain a trailing position behind TRENDIFUL and outside WINNING CIRCLE making the turn near the 1000 Metres. He said he intended to maintain this position, however, HAPPY SOUND was not travelling well after the 1000 Metres and he believed he would have had to make significant use of the horse to continue to maintain the position behind TRENDIFUL. He said because HAPPY SOUND was not able to show as much early speed as had been hoped, this allowed KEEP GOING the opportunity to obtain the position behind TRENDIFUL and in advance of HAPPY SOUND.
A veterinary inspection of NASHASHUK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of OUR HONOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
THE HAPPY BUNCH, TRENDIFUL and SHOW MISSION were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (435) FO TAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1800 m

FORTUNE PATROL began only fairly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of WEALTHY FORTUNE which became unbalanced.
From the outside barriers, CELEBRATION, MY BLESSING, DOCTORS DELIGHT and SWEET BEAN were all shifted across behind runners shortly after the start.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, TRAVEL AMBASSADOR lay in onto the heels of FORTUNE PATROL and was checked.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, JOLLY AMBER lay out when racing close to the heels of PROUD SKY.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, CELEBRATION was taken wider by SWEET BEAN which shifted out away from the rail. This resulted in CELEBRATION being left racing wide and without cover. CELEBRATION was then allowed to improve its position after the 900 Metres, however, continued to race wide and without cover.
After racing tight approaching the 500 Metres, JOLLY AMBER and TRAVEL AMBASSADOR bumped on a number of occasions as TRAVEL AMBASSADOR got its head on the side and lay in. JOLLY AMBER continued to race tight inside TRAVEL AMBASSADOR which, after continuing to lay in, then raced tight inside CELEBRATION which shifted in making the Home Turn. This resulted in JOLLY AMBER being checked near the 400 Metres. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no rider error associated with this incident, no further action was taken.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SWEET BEAN, M Chadwick stated that the horse did not travel well tonight as it had previously when ridden by him. He said because of the manner in which SWEET BEAN travelled, he was not able to improve with CELEBRATION when that horse made a forward move near the 800 Metres and this allowed TRAVEL AMBASSADOR to shift out to follow CELEBRATION which resulted in SWEET BEAN having to race very wide and without cover. He said SWEET BEAN did not quicken as it had previously for him when placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight and then did not finish off its race. A veterinary inspection of SWEET BEAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CASH COURIER had sustained a laceration to the left hind heel.
A veterinary inspection of MY BLESSING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
COME ON WONGCHOY and THE JOY OF GIVING were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (436) KWAI CHUNG HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

LIGHTNING TREASURE bounded in the air as the start was effected, shifted in and made heavy contact with the hindquarters of DRAGON DANCE, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. After this, LIGHTNING TREASURE was shifted across behind runners. Despite being ridden along, DRAGON DANCE then failed to muster speed and consequently settled back in the field and near the 900 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.
WASABI WIN shifted out at the start and bumped LE TERROIR.
From a wide barrier, GENERAL TRUMP was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the turn approaching the 1000 Metres, GOOD COMPANION was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ROYAL CHOCOLATE (S de Sousa) which shifted in when not quite clear. S de Sousa was advised to exercise more care.
Near the 1000 Metres, DIAMOND LEGEND, from a wide barrier, was left racing wide and without cover and was consequently steadied to obtain cover.
After the 1000 Metres, LE TERROIR got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of PLAY TO WIN.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, WASABI WIN lay out away from the rail. LIGHTNING TREASURE, which was following, improved its position to be racing inside the heels of WASABI WIN. LIGHTNING TREASURE was then steadied near the 550 Metres when racing tight inside WASABI WIN. LIGHTNING TREASURE was held up for a short distance behind WASABI WIN before improving to the inside of that horse after the 500 Metres when WASABI WIN again got its head on the side and lay out.
Also making the turn after the 600 Metres, GENERAL TRUMP lay out towards the heels of DIAMOND LEGEND.
A veterinary inspection of WASABI WIN and DRAGON DANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of LIGHTNING TREASURE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, LIGHTNING TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GOOD COMPANION, LONDON MASTER and ROYAL CHOCOLATE were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (437) THE VOLUNTEERS' CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

CHAPARRAL STAR was crowded for room on jumping between THE CREATETH and OPEN HOUSE, both of which shifted ground. Then from wide barriers, OPEN HOUSE and CHAPARRAL STAR were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Also from a wide barrier, LITTLE WISE MAN was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Shortly after the start, KHAKI and CHAMPION’S WAY bumped.
THE CREATETH lost its right hind plate shortly after the start.
Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, OPEN HOUSE raced tight inside CHAPARRAL STAR which got its head on the side and lay in.
Approaching the 200 Metres, WINNING CONTROLLER was shifted to the outside of SHINING ON after being disappointed for running inside that horse which lay in under pressure.
Near the 150 Metres, SHINING ON momentarily raced tight inside the heels of STAR SUPERIOR.
Passing the 150 Metres, KHAKI was directed to the inside of SHINING ON to continue improving.
Over the concluding stages, WINNING CONTROLLER raced close to the heels of STAR SUPERIOR and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
In the Straight, CHAMPION’S WAY lay in under pressure.
A veterinary inspection of GOUTEN OF GARO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHAMPION’S WAY and SUNNY DRAGON were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (438) SAI KUNG HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

Shortly after the start, JOYFUL UNION shifted out and inconvenienced FALCON TURBO. In this incident, FALCON TURBO made contact with the hindquarters of JOYFUL UNION which became unbalanced.
After the 800 Metres, BUOYANT BOY was left racing wide and without cover.
From wide barriers, WILLIE WAY and HANDSOME REBEL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 100 Metres, DOUBLE VALENTINE momentarily raced tight inside LOVING A BOOM which shifted in under pressure. LOVING A BOOM then lay in over the concluding stages.
When questioned, U Rispoli stated that, from barrier 9, he was asked to shift SHINING GEM across behind runners in the early stages as it was not believed that SHINING GEM would have sufficient speed to be able to cross runners to its inside, a number of which had shown some speed in their previous races. He said although SHINING GEM was able to take up a more forward position in a barrier trial since its most recent start, under race conditions, it was expected that it would not be able to display similar speed. He said after shifting SHINING GEM across behind runners, he urged his mount along after the 1100 Metres as SHINING GEM was becoming somewhat detached from the main body of the field. He said the pace throughout the race was very fast and, despite being ridden along, SHINING GEM was not initially able to make up ground to be racing closer to the runners in front. He said SHINING GEM was able to improve its position after the 600 Metres and he followed HANDSOME REBEL into the Home Straight, however, neither HANDSOME REBEL nor BUOYANT BOY were improving their positon sufficient to take SHINING GEM into the race at this time and he therefore elected to shift to the inside of HANDSOME REBEL at the entrance to the Straight to continue improving. He added he then shifted SHINING GEM to the inside of FALCON TURBO near the 200 Metres and SHINING GEM then finished off the race well.
When questioned regarding the performance of MIDNIGHT RATTLER, S de Sousa stated that the horse travelled well throughout the early stages in a trailing position behind the eventual winner SPEED VISION. He said MIDNIGHT RATTLER came off the bridle after the 700 Metres and then, despite being ridden out, was reluctant to maintain its position behind SPEED VISION. He said MIDNIGHT RATTLER came under heavy pressure after the 500 Metres and then was most disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. He added whilst the race was run at a fast tempo, other horses on the speed around MIDNIGHT RATTLER were able to finish in the placings whilst his mount was beaten by a considerable margin. A veterinary inspection of MIDNIGHT RATTLER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MIDNIGHT RATTLER, favourite for tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MIDNIGHT RATTLER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that BEAUTY TIME was distressed. Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY TIME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FALCON TURBO at the request of Trainer D J Hall. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FALCON TURBO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of BUOYANT BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
MIDNIGHT RATTLER, SPEED VISION and LOVING A BOOM were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (439) THE ROTARY CENTENARY CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

HAPPY SPIRIT was withdrawn on 19.2.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter JOYFUL FAMILY (C Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
CINQUANTE CINQ began only fairly.
Shortly after the start, NABOO STAR raced tight outside GLORY STAR which shifted out when being ridden along.
From wide barriers, C P POWER and GENERAL DINO were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
CROWN AVENUE was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, CHARITY WINGS was slow to muster speed.
Near the 800 Metres, C Y Ho, the rider of UNIVERSAL GO GO, adjusted his right foot in the stirrup iron.
Rounding the Home Turn, CINQUANTE CINQ bumped the running rail and became badly unbalanced and when unbalanced shifted out towards the heels of JOYFUL FAMILY and stumbled. CROWN AVENUE, which was following, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
NABOO STAR was held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn behind MULTIGOGO.
At the 250 Metres, CINQUANTE CINQ was shifted to the outside of JOYFUL FAMILY to continue improving.
Throughout the race, UNIVERSAL GO GO travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of C P POWER, M Harley stated that whilst he did not ride the horse at its most recent start when successful, he had ridden C P POWER in a barrier trial in the lead up to tonight’s race and in that trial the horse had travelled comfortably. He said it was hoped, from the horse’s wide barrier, that C P POWER would be able to obtain a position in about midfield, however, the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages in an endeavour to have it in a closer position, however, C P POWER would not pick up for him and consequently raced further back in the field than had been anticipated. He added at no stage of the race did the horse travel well and then, despite being shifted to the outside of runners in the Straight, did not finish off the race. He said the only reason he could offer for the horse not travelling well in tonight’s race was that the track was rated "Good to Firm” which it may not have appreciated. A veterinary inspection of C P POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of C P POWER, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, C P POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MERRYGOWIN and NABOO STAR were sent for sampling.

Passing the 500 Metres, DIAMOND MASTER was awkwardly placed behind CALIFORNIA GUNGHO.
C Y Ho (DRAGON PIONEER) dropped his whip approaching the 100 Metres.
Near the 50 Metres, MOST BEAUTIFUL and HAPPY VICTORY raced tight.
Over the concluding stages, NOBLE DELIGHT raced very tight outside E-SUPER (N Callan) which shifted out under pressure. N Callan was advised that in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten his mounts. In this incident, NOBLE DELIGHT was struck over the nose by the whip of N Callan.
A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND MASTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LITTLE BIRD and DRAGON PIONEER were sent for sampling.

Near the 1600 Metres, ALL YOU KNOW was shifted in and bumped WINNING ENDEAVOUR.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING raced tight inside LET’S TAKE IT EASY.
Passing the 1100 Metres, WINNING ENDEAVOUR got its head on the side and lay out. ELECTRIC LIGHTNING, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence.
