RACE 1:  The Dart and Feather 3YO Maiden Plate 1200m

Jaytees – began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped heavily with Martha Heights, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

 

Mid Air – began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered I Am A Country Boy.

 

Prototype – began awkwardly and made contact with the side partition of the barrier.  App. B Griffiths was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the finish wherever possible.

 

Asa Hurricane – commence to hang out from the 500m and passing the 400m, when commencing to weaken, shifted ground and hampered I Am A Country Boy, which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Asa Hurricane.

 

Diamond Gold – passing the 400m shifted out and away from Mid Air and as a consequence bumped with Ultimate Power, resulting in both those runners becoming unbalanced.  When questioned regarding the gelding racing further back today, rider L Magorrian stated that he was not issued any specific instructions today, other than to ensure his mount settled throughout the event.  He said, after beginning satisfactorily, bearing in mind his instructions, he did not urge his mount along in the early stages.  He added that when runners to his outside showed intent on leading, he elected to restrain his mount in an endeavour to obtain cover, whereby Diamond Gold raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

 

I Am A Country Boy – hung out rounding the home turn and when under pressure in the straight.

 

Ultimate Cover – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 2:  The Bon Pavilion Maiden Plate 1900m

Road To Blue Sky – began awkwardly.  Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight, obliging its rider near the 100m to stop and straighten his mount.

 

Banteux – slow to begin and then failed to muster speed despite the efforts of its rider.  Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight and passing the 100m rider L Magorrian was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount.  Rider L Magorrian was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) in that he used the whip on three consecutive occasions prior to the 100m.

 

Joyous Times – shortly after the start was steadied when crowded for room between Kacper Boy and All Style, which shifted out after beginning awkwardly.  Raced wide and without cover until near the 1200m, where it was able to assume a position outside the leader All Style.

Alam Mo Na – leaving the straight on the first occasion, when racing in restricted room to the inside of All Style (K Adams) made the turn awkwardly, shifted out and became awkwardly placed on the heels of that runner, which shifted in marginally.  K Adams was advised to exercise more care.  Commenced to lay in from the 700m and was then bumped by Kacper Boy near the 200m when that runner laid in.  Alam Mo Na then continued to lay in for the remainder of the straight.

RACE 3:  Kentan Machinery Colts-Geldings-Entires Benchmark 64 Hcp 1100m

Bentley Magic – trainer Mr M Smith was fined $200 under AR206 for the late application to remove blinkers from the colt’s race day gear.  From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.

 

Broken Arrows – slow to begin.

 

Four More Millers – began awkwardly.  Approaching the 600m was eased away from the heels of Rhythmic Pulse (M Bell), which shifted in when not clear.  M Bell was advised to exercise more care.

 

Lord Zoulander – began only fairly.  When questioned, rider A Gibbons stated that he was obliged to make some use of the gelding in the early stages to obtain a position outside the leader Johnny Roo Boy, where by Lord Zoulander travelled well throughout the early stages.  He said when placed under pressure rounding the home turn his mount was one-paced and in his opinion would appreciate races over further distance.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Imperial Eagle – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Shortly after the start was hampered when crowded for room between Rhythmic Plus and Lord Zoulander, which shifted out.  Passing the 200m was crowded for room between Broken Arrows, which shifted in marginally, and Gone Viral, which was taken out by Bentley Magic, which shifted out and away from Four More Millers.

 

Gone Viral – raced keenly in the early stages when racing wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 4:  Central Coast Floormaster Benchmark 64 Handicap 1600m

Walkinshaw – began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Zoffany’s Lad.

 

Titus – began only fairly and shortly after the start was bumped by Taj.

 

Loveseat – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runner in the early stages.  B Spriggs was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the finish wherever possible.

 

Time Raid – passing the 400m bumped with Zoffany’s Lad.  Held up approaching and rounding the home turn and approaching the 200m was shifted to the outside Zoffany’s Lad to continue into clear running.

 

Editors –approaching and rounding the home turn was held up behind the weakening Taj and shortly after straightening was steadied to avoid the heels of Titus, which laid in.  As a result Editors was shifted to the outside of Titus to continue into clear running.

 

Zoffany’s Lad – approaching the 100m commenced to lay out and carried Time Raid wider.

 

Taj – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

RACE 5:  Telstra Store Woy Woy Provincial & Country Maiden Plate 1100m

Colonel Penaga – slow to begin.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Ruling Symbol – slow to begin.  Shortly after the start was crowded for room between Grand Acheeva and Pin Feather, which shifted in.  Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.  Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight.

 

Canford Mick – began awkwardly.  Overraced in the early and middle stages.

 

Pin Feather – shortly after the start was bumped by Last Chance Dance, which shifted in.  Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight.

 

RACE 6:  Outdoor Elegance Fillies-Mares Benchmark 64 Handicap 1100m

Bryan’s Babe – slow to begin.  Near the 600m was steadied away from the heels of Le Dejeuner and commenced to hang out thereafter.

 

Zelrosa – blundered on jumping.  Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight.

 

Nangami – began awkwardly and made contact with the nearside partition of the barrier.

 

Gimme Shelter – began awkwardly and made contact with Handspun and from the outside barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which hung out from the 500m, did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Handspun – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Approaching the 600m, when racing keenly, was shifted to the outside of Zelrosa to avoid that runner’s heels.  As a result Handspun was left racing wide and without cover thereafter.

 

Ariege – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

 

RACE 7:  Freddy’s Fishing and Outdoor Class 2 Handicap 1900m

Etheridge – Stewards permitted rider M Bell to ride the filly 1 kilogram over its declared weight of 54 kilograms.

 

By Design – as B Spriggs was stood down by the Club's Medical Officer, Stewards permitted Y Ichikawa to be substituted as the rider of the gelding.  Began awkwardly and was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Near the 1200m commenced to pull hard and, when being restrained, got its head up on a number of occasions.

 

Never Been Another – stood flat-footed as the start was effected (4L).

 

Kliftee – raced keenly in the early stages.  Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

 

Soldier Of Love – near the 1300m was steadied when crowded by Vive Marie (App. L Day), which shifted in when not clear.  App. Day was reprimanded under AR131(a).  Rider C Lever was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip on seven occasions (two more than permitted).  In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the totality of whip use.

 

California Longbow – raced keenly in the middle stages.  Held up approaching and rounding the home turn and then approaching the 200m was disappointed for a run between Soldier Of Love and Etheridge.  California Longbow continued to be held up until passing the 150m, whereby it was shifted to the outside of Etheridge to continue into clear running.

 

Our Candidate – had some difficulty obtaining completely clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

Summary of whip use:

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii).  Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.

Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners:

Race 1:  Mid Air.
