Punters landed a blow before lunchtime on Monday as yet another Anthony Freedman-trained two-year-old impressed on debut over 1170 metres at Wangaratta.
Lake’s Folly was $3.40 with Sportsbet at 7.44am before relentless support throughout the morning saw the gelding jump a dominant $2.25 favourite.
Lake’s Folly was slow to begin at barrier rise and settled in the second-half of the field. However once jockey Clayton Douglas extricated him to the outside in the straight he quickly put his rivals to the sword, putting 4.5 lengths on his rivals in a matter of strides.
Freedman Racing’s Brad Taylor said post-race that Lake’s Folly will be even better once he gets up in trip.
“We will see how he pulls up from this, he’s a gelding who’s going to get over a bit more ground so we will see how he pulls up and there might be a nice 1400m in town (for him),” said Taylor.
Clayton Douglas was impressed with Lake’s Folly, “he’s a push-button horse, he’s shown good ability at home."
He suggested that despite today’s emphatic victory, Lake’s Folly went to the line with plenty in hand.
“There seemed to be a few (more gears), so hopefully there’s enough upside that he can go onto biggest and better things. He’s a horse that’s going to get over a bit further being by Pierro.”
The win of Lake’s Folly continues Freedman Racing’s incredible season with two-year-old's. The stable has now won sixteen two-year-old races this season from 48 runners, headlined by this year's Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield in February with Godolphion's Lyre.
Lake’s Folly is a out of the Redoute’s Choice mare, Mama’s Choice who was a Listed Chairman’s Stakes winner as a two-year-old.
Pinecliffe Racing owned and raced Mama’s Choice and post-race Rodney Douglas explained to Racing.com's Brad Bishop that sadly the mare had recently passed away.
Mama’s Choice also has a full-brother to Lake’s Folly who was sold at the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale for $500,000 as well as a Written Tycoon filly who was foaled in September, 2018.
