Race 1 - Rivette Series Final - 1600m:

Ice Girl - began awkwardly. Got its head in the air when over-racing in the early stages.

Crimson And Clover - after being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward and sit outside the leader near the 1100m.

My Divas - when over-racing had to be steadied off the heels of Elle Gagne (NZ) near the 800m.

Undoubtable Miss - approaching the 200m was struck over the nose by the whip of Jye McNeil (Think Diamonds) and became unbalanced.

Race 2 - VRC-CRV Cup Tour Trophy - 2000m:

Bondeiger - had to be steadied when tightened for room between Grand Dreamer and Killarney Kid (NZ) near the 1800m.

Sixties Groove - over-raced in the middle stages.

Not To Know - pulled hard in the middle stages.

Grand Dreamer - rider Damian Lane could offer no explanation for the performance which was below expectations. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3 - Leilani Series Final - 1400m:

Dreams Of Paris - connections advised would be ridden forward from the inside gate; slow to begin and settled behind the leaders.

Miles Of Krishan - began awkwardly. Apprentice Fred Kersley was of the opinion that the mare would be better suited over further distance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis.

Hussys Glow - had to be steadied near the 450m and shift in to avoid the heels of Sharing (Ben Allen), which shifted out when not fully clear; Ben Allen was cautioned and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Had difficulty obtaining a clear run over the concluding stages. Rider Michael Dee was questioned regarding his tactics leaving the 800m, and as to whether he had an opportunity to hold a position behind the eventual winner, Miss Gunpowder, passing the 600m. He explained that his mount was off the bridle passing the 600m, therefore he was unable to hold his position and then for some distance rounding the home turn he was placed in restricted room between Evil Lil, which was laying in, and Sharing which was endeavouring to shift ground outwards to gain clear running. He also added that he was unable to ride his mount out with his normal vigour over the concluding stages without getting heels of other runners.

Race 4 - Silver Bowl Series Final - 1600m:

Aroha Te Mana - connections advised would be ridden with cover; began awkwardly, settled towards the rear of the field and over-raced in the early stages.

Remember The Name - had to be re-saddled behind the barriers.

Gaulois - began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Come On Carl.

Come On Carl - bumped at the start.

Would Thought So - raced wide without cover in the early stages. Held up from the 400m until gaining clear running passing the 200m and then failed to run on over the concluding stages.

Mount Kilcoy - when questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the home straight, rider Dean Yendall explained that he was mindful of the strong headwind in the straight, and given the length of the Flemington straight he did not wish to expose the colt too soon, however conceded that in hindsight he should have come out sooner than he did which was at the 400m. Stewards advised him they were of a similar view, and that he needs to be mindful to ensure that his mounts are ridden in a manner to obtain the best possible placing at the end of the race, however the Stewards were not of the view that his actions were blameworthy under the rules.

Race 5 - Taj Rossi Series Final (Listed) - 1600m:

Scottish Rogue - connections advised would be ridden quieter to run out the 1600m; settled in a mid-field position with cover.

Nero Chin Chin - began awkwardly.

Pedicel - began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Whitemore, which in turn shifted in abruptly and made contact with Inkslinger. Taken out off its course by Goldifox near the 250m. Stable representative Gary Fennessy was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the filly today, and he explained that the intention was to ride the filly back due to the wide gate and the windy conditions. Stewards formally advised him that whilst the horse was only having its third run, in retrospect the stable need to keep in mind their obligation in notifying any significant changes of tactics.

Inkslinger - clipped the heels of Pedicel near the 250m, became unbalanced and almost dislodged rider Damian Lane.

Chris Parnham (Goldifox) - found guilty of a charge of reckless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the recklessness being the manner in which he allowed his mount to shift out near the 250m, taking Pedicel out of its course into the rightful running of Inkslinger resulting in Inkslinger clipping the heels of Pedicel and almost dislodging rider Damian Lane. Chris Parnham had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight July 14th and to expire at midnight August 3rd, a total of twenty race meetings (four metropolitan, sixteen provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his overall good riding record.

Race 6 - Banjo Patterson Series Final - 2600m:

OLonera - connections advised would be ridden quieter; settled towards the rear of the field.

Benall - raced wide without cover in the early stages.

La Courbette - began awkwardly. Rider Michael Walker was of the view that the mare resented the crossover noseband and may be better suited with the addition of blinkers, which he informed connections. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Swacadelic (GER) - began awkwardly. Rider Jordan Childs reported that his mount felt flat and may be at the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and the stable confirmed that the gelding would now be spelled.

Dane Hussler - began awkwardly and lost ground.

Crafty Cruiser - slow to begin.

Choysa - laid out under pressure in the straight.

Grey Lion (IRE) - rider Luke Nolen was of the view his mount would be better suited on a track with more give. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Big Hammer - rider Dean Yendall was fined $750 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip nine times prior to the 100m, which is four times more than permitted under the rules. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the totality of his whip use.

Kate Walters (Choysa) - pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using her whip eleven times prior to the 100m, which is six times more than permitted. Kate Walters had her licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight July 14th and to expire at midnight July 20th, a total of six race meetings (one metropolitan, five provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the gross breach of the rule.

Race 7 - A R Creswick Series Final (Listed) - 1200m:

Spirit Of Aquada - slow to begin.

Layel - began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Bel Sonic, which was in turn tightened in onto Sun Quan which was hampered.

Bel Sonic - bumped in onto Sun Quan at the start by Layel.

Sun Quan - hampered at the start when tightened by Bel Sonic, which was taken in by Layel. Held up for a short distance approaching the 200m.

The track was upgraded from Good 4 to Good 3 at 3.38pm after the running of this race.

Race 8 - VRC-CRV Winter Championship Series Final (Listed) - 1600m:

Jacquinot Bay - began awkwardly.

Amovatio - slow to begin.

Ozi Choice - over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Moss N Dale - raced three wide without cover.

Cool Chap - rider Andrew Mallyon was of the view his mount would appreciate a track with more give. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery.

Turnitaround - apprentice Ben Allen reported his mount made a respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Mihany - rider Noel Callow was of the view his mount did not appreciate the pressure in the lead and compounded quickly in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Princeton Spirit (NZ) - began awkwardly.

Man From Uncle - raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider Ben Thompson reported that the gelding was caught flat footed when the tempo quickened and may now be looking to contest events of a greater distance than todays 1200m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Ability - rider Damien Thornton reported that the gelding travelled well and would derive benefit from the run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
