Douvan price crashes as Walsh chooses to ride former Cheltenham star

News that Douvan will run in the Champion Chase has led to a noticeable shift in the going price for the eight-year-old.  It was confirmed on Monday that Douvan will run in the featured Wednesday race, rather than the Ryanair the following day.

Ruby Walsh has elected to take the ride on Douvan over his stablemate, Min, in what is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling races at Cheltenham this year. That’s led to the Rich Ricci-owned superstar crashing in price from 5/1 to 11/4, with favourite Altior drifting from 8/11 to evens.

A massive 76% of bets in the last hour have been placed on the two-time Cheltenham winner following this morning’s news on the eve of Cheltenham.

Douvan’s stablemate, Min, remains the second favourite in the market and has lengthened from 5/2 to 4/1.

The Willie Mullins-trained 8 year old has not been seen in competitive action since suffering a shock defeat and injury in last year’s Champion Chase.  This is just the sort of news to get punters talking ahead of the festival, with Douvan going up against both Altior in Min in what should be one of the races of the Festival.

Oddschecker spokesperson, George Elek: “This news is not only significant due to Douvan's return to the track, but Ruby Walsh's decision to ride him suggests that there is serious confidence behind his entry.

“Had Walsh chosen to ride stablemate Min he would have remained a shorter price than Douvan, but the two prices have switched since the surprise news this morning.”
