Race 1 - Ladbrokes Multiverse Handicap - 2400m:

Opposition (GB) - connections advised would be ridden more forward; settled mid-field.

Royal Music (IRE) - slow to begin. Rider Craig Williams could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Steel Prince (IRE) - rider Dean Yendall was fined the sum of $500 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip nine times prior to the 100m, which is four times more than permitted. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account it was a staying race.

Fastlane To Heaven - tailed off; rider Dean Holland could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 2 - Drinkwise Plate - 1600m:

Syds Coin - slow to begin.

Cloak - slow to begin.

Junipal - heavily bumped at the start by Real Success which shifted out.

Silent Explorer - raced three wide without cover. Weakened from the 300m and hung in. Rider Craig Williams could offer no explanation for the poor performance, however stated that the gelding would benefit from the experience of the anti-clockwise way of going. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A Fighting Fury - rider Kerrin McEvoy stated that he had not intended to lead however in the early stages he elected to urge his mount along to ensure it did not get caught wide.

Real Success - rider Ben Thompson accidentally dropped his reins near the 200m.

Titan Blinders - rider Damien Oliver reported that his mount was not suited with the addition of the blinkers.

Mr Grizzle - rider Damian Lane could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 3 - The Pegasus Leisure Group Handicap - 1400m:

Wayanka (NZ) - began awkwardly and as a result settled further back than anticipated. Rider James McDonald reported that due to being further back than anticipated, his mount was reluctant to travel and in his opinion, would be better suited ridden closer.

Balcazar - brushed on a number of occasions passing the 800m by Performer which, when racing keenly, shifted out to avoid the heels of Amadeus. Then raced wide without cover.

Fifty Stars (IRE) - a post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have mild pharyngitis.

Heptagon (NZ) - a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have slow recovery and an endoscopic examination detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

 

Race 4 - FDC Handicap - 1700m:

Romancer (NZ) - connections advised would be ridden more forward; led. Rider John Allen explained that after walking the track today, he was of the view that the going was better off the rail and he therefore elected to race off the fence when leading throughout the race. He added that approaching the home turn, his mount had a tendency to lay out and as a result did not take the corner as well as he would have liked.

A Shin Rook (JPN) - raced keenly through the middle stages.

Gustavus Vassa (GB) - near the 1000m was eased out of the race. The gelding sustained a catastrophic racing injury and was humanely euthanised. The incident will be referred to the Equine Welfare Department and the gelding has been transported to the Werribee Equine Hospital for an autopsy.

Bedford (NZ) - inconvenienced at the 1000m when having to avoid Gustavus Vassa (GB). Laid inwards in the home straight.

Addison (NZ) - near the 700m was steadied off the heels of Four By Four.

 

Race 5 - Catanachs Jewellers Blue Sapphire Stakes (Group 3) - 1200m:

Smart Elissim - bumped at the start by Written By which began awkwardly and shifted in.

Written By - began awkwardly.

Encryption - slow to begin.

The track was upgraded from Good 4 to Good 3 at 3.55pm after the running of this race.

 

Race 6 - Ted Baker Ladies Day Vase (Group 3) - 1600m:

Oregons Day - hampered at the start by Kenedna which shifted out. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Friar Fox - slow to begin and was then steadied to avoid the heels of Hectopascal (NZ). Raced wide rounding the home turn.

Quilate - raced three wide without cover.

Seductive Miss - held up for clear running from the 400m and was steadied at the 200m to avoid the heels of Lady Of Flanders and again near the 100m when attempting a narrow run on the inside of Lady Of Flanders.

La Bella Diosa - rider Craig Williams could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Mrs Gardenia - apprentice Ben Allen could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 7 - Ladbrokes Village Stakes (Listed) - 1200m:

Snitzkraft - connections advised would be ridden with cover; settled mid-field and wide without cover. Rider John Allen was spoken to advisedly and reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the finish of the race.

Man Of His Word - began awkwardly. Held up for clear running from the 300m until near the 50m.

Age Of Fire - slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 400m until near the 100m.

Addictive Nature - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Became unbalanced upon straightening after shifting out and making contact with So Si Bon; rider Damian Lane was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

So Si Bon - became unbalanced upon straightening when brushed by Addictive Nature which shifted out.

Trekking - held up for clear running from the 400m until inside the 100m.

Lord Von Costa - had difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of Man From Uncle shortly after straightening.

Brave Song - got its head up approaching the 200m when accidentally struck by the whip of Ben Thompson (Oak Door)

Pedrena - rider Michael Dee reported that his mount jumped away extremely well and as a result raced further forward than anticipated and he was not disappointed with the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 8 - Ladbrokes Odds Boost Exotics Handicap - 2000m:

Primitivo - slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Macrobius - over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Romanesque (IRE) - raced three wide without cover.

Lucky For All - laid in under pressure in the straight.

Tavonian (NZ) - rider Craig Williams reported that after riding his mount hard from the 600m, he felt that the gelding did not appreciate the firmer track conditions and did not feel comfortable in his action. He added the gelding got its head up and failed to stretch out and as a result he did not ride it out fully in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had been galloped on the off hind leg.
