Race 1- Wellington RC Handicap - 1200m:

Star Fall - after being fractious in its starting stall underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. When racing keenly near the 900m, had to be eased. Lost its off fore plate in running.

Opposite - severely hampered at the start when crowded between Ocean Knight (NZ) which had jumped out before being taken outwards further by Yulong Pluto, and Virtual Insanity which shifted in resulting in Opposite clipping the heels of Virtual Insanity and losing ground.

Ocean Knight (NZ) - after commencing awkwardly, was hampered by Yulong Pluto which shifted out.

Dark Villain - bumped at the start by Star Fall. Near the 900m had to be eased off the heels of Star Fall when racing keenly.

Rarer Than Rubies - raced keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the straight, proving difficult for Nikita Beriman to ride out in her normal manner.

Virtual Insanity - raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Heart Conquered - weakened from the 150m; rider Patrick Moloney could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 2- Hyderabad RC Handicap - 1400m:

The start of this race was delayed by approximately six minutes due to a hailstorm and the track was subsequently downgraded from Good 4 to Soft 5.

The Iliad - connections advised would be ridden further forward than last start; after being marginally slow to begin, settled at the rear of the field.

Simply Invincible - connections advised would be ridden further forward from the inside gate; after being slow to begin, was ridden along and settled just behind the leaders.

Boxachocolates (NZ) - commenced awkwardly.

Dinner Lake - got its head up in the early stages when racing keenly. Rider Jordan Childs reported his mount failed to handle todays track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The Thug - raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

 

Race 3- Thomas North Handicap - 1600m:

Sheezdashing - commenced awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Zedda.

Zedda - bumped at the start.

Savacool (NZ) - bumped at the start.

Second Marriage - bumped at the start by Savacool (NZ) which shifted in. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Hinchin Time - near the 1400m had to be eased when crowded for room to the inside of Casino Rose which had been taken in slightly by Truly Discreet.

Fern - had to be eased passing the 150m when crowded for room between Joie De Dream and Palazzo Vecchio which both shifted ground slightly.

Palazzo Vecchio - apprentice Chris Caserta was spoken to advisedly and notified he must ride his mounts out fully to the winning post.

Double The Magic - apprentice Ben Allen reported that his mount failed to handle todays track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery.

Casino Rose - a post race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. The horse shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of a Steward.

The track was downgraded from Soft 5 to Soft 6 at 1.38pm after the running of this race.

 

Race 4- Ladbrokes Handicap - 1700m:

Granddukeoftuscany (IRE) - connections advised would be ridden back, first start new trainer; raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward by its rider to settle in a forward position. Passing the 1200m, after receiving a call for room to his inside, rider Damien Thornton straightened his mount. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to its left hock.

Hursley - slow to begin.

Abdon (GB) - commenced awkwardly, making contact with the hindquarters of Quick Defence (USA).

Quick Defence (USA) - bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Laid inwards under pressure in the straight.

Tiamo Grace - slow to begin. Rider Brad Rawiller stated that when placed under pressure passing the 600m, the mare failed to respond and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Rock Forthe Ladies - raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1200m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Top Of The Range (NZ), which had in turn been steadied off the heels of Heptagon.

Top Of The Range - passing the 1200m had to be checked when tightened for room between Granddukeoftuscany (IRE), which shifted out slightly at this stage, and Heptagon (Chris Caserta) which shifted in when not fully clear; apprentice Chris Caserta was issued with a severe reprimand.

 

Race 5- Ladbrokes Galilee Series Final (Listed) - 2400m:

Grand Casino - connections advised would be ridden closer; settled just behind the leader.

Heir To The Throne - connections advised would be ridden forward from the wide gate; settled just behind the leader. Rider Jake Noonan stated that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination detected a degree of mucus that may have affected the geldings racing performance and a veterinary clearance will be required prior to it racing again.

Dewrinkler - slow to begin. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, got its head up when having to be eased off the heels of Alpha. Continued to get its head up when racing keenly through the early stages.

Blue Jay Way - commenced awkwardly and was then bumped by Alpha.

High Energy - raced wide without cover throughout.

Berkshire Lady - when making ground passing the 400m, had to be restrained outwards when it improved onto the heels of the tiring Heir To The Throne.

Goegans Hero - shortly after straightening, was crowded for room to the inside of High Energy, which shifted in slightly.

Han Xin - over the concluding stages bumped with Rezealient when both horses shifted ground.

Rezealient - over the concluding stages bumped with Han Xin when both horses shifted ground.

Petite - eased down; rider Jye McNeil was of the view his mount failed to handle todays track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Alpha - rider Beau Mertens could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 6- Selangor Turf Club Handicap - 2000m:

Prima - late withdrawal at 2.18pm due to the track downgrade. Betting deductions: 13 cents in the dollar for double deductions.

Golden Mane - slow to begin.

Darabad (FR) - bumped at the start with Glorious Sinndar (FR). When racing keenly in the early stages had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Berisha. Continued to over-race in the middle stages. Near the 1000m commenced to hang outwards despite the efforts of its rider. Continued to hang out from then on and trainer Robbie Laing was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding and if it performs similarly again, it may be suspended from racing until it trials to the satisfaction of Stewards.

Glorious Sinndar (FR) - bumped at the start with Darabad (FR).

Grey Lion (IRE) - near the 1000m was taken out off its course by Darabad (FR) and as a result clipped the heels of Spectroscope (USA) and blundered. Rider Jordan Childs dropped his whip approaching the 300m.

Spectroscope (USA) - raced wide and keenly through the middle stages. Near the 1000m had its hindquarters bumped and became unbalanced after being galloped on by Grey Lion (IRE). Then continued to race wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Montoyas Secret - raced wide without cover throughout.

Velox (GB) - rounding the home turn was bumped and crowded to the outside of Berisha which shifted out to improve. Rider Jye McNeil could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Berisha - held up for clear running for a short distance approaching and passing the 400m.

Magnapal - rider Daniel Moor was fined the sum of $750 for using his whip nine times prior to the 100m, which is four times more than permitted. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his recent record and that he won the race.

 

Race 7- Walk for Phil Handicap - 1200m:

Moet Rose - crowded for room at the start between Mr Money Bags and Regimen which jumped out.

Villa Sarchi - slow to begin. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure in the straight and passing the 200m, was hampered by Ocean Deep (NZ) which shifted in under pressure. Approaching the winning post had to be checked to avoid the heels of Ocean Deep (NZ) (Fred Kersley) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear.

Mr Money Bags - bumped on the hindquarters on jumping away by Moet Rose which had been hampered outwards by Regimen.

Regimen - commenced awkwardly, shifting out and making contact with Moet Rose. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Apprentice Ethan Brown reported that his mount felt amiss. An irregular heart rhythm was detected on post race veterinary examination.  The filly shall not start in any race until the Stewards have received a satisfactory veterinary report.  The report must include the results of an ECG performed at rest and cardiac auscultation performed within thirty minutes of completing a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m.

Naantali (NZ) - raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards under pressure in the straight. Rider Ben Thompson reported his mount would benefit from the run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

William Thomas - raced fiercely in the early stages, getting its head in the air for some distance, proving difficult for its rider to restrain the gelding.

Catesby - raced wide without cover throughout.

Iconoclasm - raced wide rounding the home turn. When questioned, apprentice Ben Allen reported it had not been his intention to settle as far back as he did on this occasion, however from the wide gate and after beginning only fairly, he elected to restrain his mount so as to obtain a position with cover towards the rear of the field.

Andaz - passing the 150m had to be eased to avoid the heels of Naantali (NZ) which shifted in under pressure.

Fred Kersley (Ocean Deep (NZ)) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that approaching the finishing line he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Villa Sarchi resulting in that gelding having to be checked to avoid the heels of Ocean Deep (NZ). Fred Kersley had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 14th and to expire at midnight April 20th, a total of eight race meetings (one metropolitan, seven provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea, good record and that the carelessness was in the low range.

 

Race 8- JRA Handicap - 1200m:

Dan Zephyr - late withdrawal at 1.00pm due to the track downgrade.

Saint Valorem - dwelt at the start and lost considerable ground (approximately seven lengths) and must now gain further approval in an official trial prior to racing again.

Gatlinburg - raced keenly in the early stages.

Temps Voleur - over-raced in the early stages.

King River - raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have the thumps.

 

Race 9- Sandown Park (UK) Handicap - 1100m:

If Not Now When - after making contact with the gate leaving the mounting yard, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race.

Quilate - bumped at the start by Sasayuri which jumped awkwardly.

Sasayuri - commenced awkwardly, bumping with Quilate.

Shes Positive - commenced awkwardly and got its head up shortly after.

Typhoon Jolie - raced wide without cover.

Motown Lil - raced wide without cover.

Lady Esprit - held up for clear running from approaching the home turn until passing the 200m.

Moonlover - held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Deja Blue - tightened for room at the 350m between Certain Ellie and Ilovethislady which was being taken out by Sullivan Bay.

Ilovethislady - raced in restricted room near the 350m due to Sullivan Bay shifting out.

Sullivan Bay - fifth placegetter; apprentice Liam Riordan was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR145 for returning to scale in excess of a half kilogram over his declared riding weight.
