Riding Changes / Jockey Information

Other Comments / Explanations:

John Allen was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR91 for failing to arrive on course 45 minutes prior to the start of Race 1.

Race 1- The Big Screen Company Handicap - 1800 metres:

Khutulun - slow to begin.

Goldstream (ITY) - passing the 1600m, had to be eased when close to the heels of Self Sense and as a result was then placed three wide and for some distance following, laid outwards when its rider attempted to restrain to find cover. When questioned regarding his tactics, rider John Allen stated that he was reluctant to ride his mount along in the early stages as the gelding has a tendency to over-race, so he elected to take up a position behind Self Sense, which was subsequently shuffled back in the field and as a result he ended up further back than anticipated. He further stated that from the 800m he did not allow his mount to improve at this point as he believed he would have been extremely wide on the home turn and he elected to shift back to the inside to cut the corner and make up ground.

Self Sense - passing the 1600m got its head up when racing keenly and also tightly to the inside of Adirondack, eventually having to be eased.

Plot The Course - rounding the home turn near the 400m, was disappointed for clear running between The Mighty Jrod and Downhearted and as a result became unbalanced after making contact with the hindquarters of Downhearted.

Adirondack - near the 250m was crowded for room between Self Sense and Goldstream (ITY) (John Allen) which shifted out resulting in Adirondack having to be checked by its rider.

John Allen (Goldstream (ITY)) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 250m he permitted his mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of Adirondack which was tightened out onto Self Sense and had to be checked. John Allen had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight February 10th and to expire at midnight February 18th, a total of nine race meetings (three metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and that the carelessness was in the low range.

Race 2- Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) (Group 2) - 1100 metres:

Prior to correct weight Damien Oliver rider of Seabrook (NZ) (fourth placegetter), lodged an objection against Lake District Girl being declared third placegetter, alleging interference from the top of the straight until the 250m. On the evidence it was established that a neat run had presented itself to the inside of Lake District Girl and shortly after Seabrook (NZ) improved into this position before Lake District Girl shifted inwards near the 250m resulting in Seabrook (NZ) having to be checked to avoid that fillys heels. As Stewards were of the view had this incident not occurred Seabrook (NZ) would have beaten Lake District Girl to the finish, and given the nose margin, the objection was upheld and the placings amended as follows: first placegetter - Enbihaar, second placegetter - Oohood, third placegetter - Seabrook (NZ) and fourth placegetter - Lake District Girl.

Oohood - after being fractious and rearing in its starting stall, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race and a warning will be placed on the fillys record. Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m, became unbalanced when bumping heavily with Al Naifa.

Held up for clear running for some distance over the final 100m and over the concluding stages was unable to be ridden out fully when close to the heels of Enbihaar.

Al Naifa - commenced to over-race passing the 900m and shortly after improved to Pure Elations inside before then being taken inwards slightly, making heavy contact with Oohood becoming unbalanced. Rider Craig Williams reported that although his mount did become unbalanced near the 900m, he was still disappointed with the fillys performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Downloads - raced wide without cover throughout.

Diamond Reflection - rounding the home turn approaching the 300m was bumped heavily by Oohood (Luke Currie) which shifted out to improve. Passing the 300m than had to be restrained when crowded for room between Pure Elation and Oohood (Luke Currie) which shifted out under pressure; Luke Currie was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Crossing The Abbey - had to be steadied near the 50m to avoid the heels of Seabrook (NZ) (Damien Oliver) which shifted out to improve; Damien Oliver was severely reprimanded.

Damian Lane (Lake District Girl) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 250m he permitted his mount to shift in after initially shifting out when not sufficiently clear of Seabrook (NZ) resulting in Seabrook (NZ) being checked and losing its rightful running. Damian Lane had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight February 11th and to expire at midnight February 21st, a total of ten race meetings (four metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and good record and that the careless riding was in the mid-range.
