RACE 1 – Tab.com.au Handicap 1550m

Banteux – after beginning only fairly, was crowded shortly after the start by Alier, which began awkwardly and shifted in.  Banteux laid in under pressure in the early part of the straight.

The Summit – was hampered on jumping by Aramayo, which shifted in.

Aramayo – near the 600m was briefly crowded by Hard Hustler, which shifted in.

Hard Hustler – when questioned, App B Ryan stated that he was instructed to settle in a forward position on the gelding.  He added that after beginning well, he rode his mount accordingly and was able to obtain a position outside the early leader, Alier.  App Ryan stated that when Horn, which was positioned to his outside, improved forward and crossed to the lead approaching the 1200m when Alier then shifted out to race outside of Horn, Hard Hustler was then taken out and he was left racing in a three wide position without cover.  App Ryan stated that passing the 600m, he felt his mount shift in resulting in Aramayo being crowded and as a result, he shifted his mount outwards to relieve any pressure being applied to this runner, however this ultimately enabled Aramayo to improve to the inside of his mount when he had shifted out, albeit further than what he had liked.

Horn – when questioned regarding the performance, rider K McEvoy stated he had to make some use of his mount in the early stages to cross and take up a position in the lead.  He added that his mount then raced keenly for some distance in the middle stages.  He further added that in his opinion, Horn may not have run out the distance of today's race.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr J Bruce agreed with the explanation tendered by rider K McEvoy and undertook to report back on the future racing plans of the gelding in the days subsequent.

RACE 2 – ATC Hong Kong Tour Plate 1250m

Matowi – slow to begin.  Near the 700m, shifted in and away from Brilliant Choice and became unbalanced.

Brilliant Choice – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

Maid Of Heaven – in the early stages, after beginning well, despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed and when caught wide and without cover, was shifted in behind runners and obtained a position at the rear of the field near the 1100m.

Churning – hung out rounding the home turn.  When questioned regarding the performance, rider J McDonald stated that the filly raced well throughout the early and middle stages and he was confident of his mount's chance in running.  He added that passing the 500m, when he asked Churning to improve, the filly commenced to race greenly, shifted ground and was disappointing in its failure to finish its race off from that point.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer Mr E O'Rourke stated that the filly had pleased the stable leading into today's race, however as this was Churning’s third run in its first preparation, it was the stable's intention for Churning to be spelled.

RACE 3 – TAB Rewards Handicap 1250m

Couvre Lit – began awkwardly.  Couvre Lit was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight before shifting to the outside of Vitesse passing the 200m to continue into clear running.  A post race veterinary examination revealed Couvre Lit to be lame (3/5) in the near fore leg.  Trainer Mr J Cummings was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again.

La Lude – began awkwardly.

Symi – was bumped on jumping.

Misteed – when questioned regarding the filly racing at the rear of the field when Stewards had been informed by co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden that it was the intention to have Misteed ridden further forward today, App S Weatherley stated that he was also instructed to have the horse ridden in a forward position, preferably behind the leader with cover.  He stated that after beginning only moderately, as he felt he would be racing wide and without cover, he immediately restrained Misteed and took up a position at the rear of the field.  When questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn, App Weatherley stated that as he did not want to make a wide run around the field, he attempted to improve between runners, however when Couvre Lit shifted away from the rail, he was unable to improve between that runner and Fearless Girl.  He added that as his mount had improved and he was racing to a position inside of the heels of La Lude, he was then unable to shift out and gain a trail from that runner as to do so he would have had to give up ground passing the 400m.  He added that his mount was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight where he was then obliged to shift to the outside of La Lude when that runner had improved where he established clear running near the 250m.

Fearless Girl – raced keenly in the early stages.  Rider J McDonald could offer no explanation for the performance of the filly, however indicated Fearless Girl may not have appreciated the step up in grade of today's race.  Co-trainer Mr A Bott undertook to report back on the immediate racing future of the filly in the days subsequent.

RACE 4 – #Theraces Handicap 1250m

Conarchie – began awkwardly.

You Make Me Smile – raced keenly in the middle stages.  You Make My Smile was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and did not obtain clear running until passing the 200m.

Scream Park – raced wide and without cover from the 700m.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Tears In Heaven – when the pace slackened in the middle stages, had to be checked to avoid the heels of Conarchie passing the 600m.  Tears In Heaven was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.  Tears In Heaven, approaching the 100m, was briefly held up on the heels of the weakening Smart Ain’t He.

Michelle’s Gift – when the pace slackened in the middle stages, commenced to overrace for some distance after the 600m and raced in restricted room between Conarchie and Scream Park.

Smart Ain't He – passing the 100m, when commencing to weaken, had to be eased when crowded between Gretzky and Metamorphic (J McDonald), which shifted in when under pressure.  J McDonald was advised to exercise more care.

RACE 5 – Ribchester Standing At Darley Handicap 1550m

Mollyfied – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Makdanife – on straightening, was bumped and became unbalanced by Foreign Territory, which was laying out, and after being bumped by Mollyfied, shifted out further.

Love's A Fantasy – when questioned regarding his riding throughout the early and middle stages, App S Weatherley explained that he was instructed, if possible, to have the horse ridden in a forward position.  He stated that after beginning only fairly, he immediately rode his mount forward to comply with his instructions.  He added that when caught wide approaching the first turn, he continued to ride his mount forward and then upon entering the back straight near the 1100m, when he felt there was no option to restrain Love’s A Fantasy to obtain a position with cover and that as he felt the best position he would be able to maintain if he did not continue to ride forward would be four wide outside Puppet Master, although he was mindful the tempo of the race was quick, to avoid being caught wide he continued to ride Love’s A Fantasy forward where he ultimately crossed to obtain a position in the lead approaching the 800m.  App Weatherley stated that his mount then weakened when under pressure from the 500m and he attributed this to the work Love’s A Fantasy had to do in the early stages to cross to the rail.  App Weatherley agreed with Stewards that in the early stages, when racing extremely wide, rather than continue to ride forward on a fast tempo, he should have eased his mount back in and attempted to obtain a position trailing Makdanife passing the 1300m.  A  post race veterinary examination revealed Love's A Fantasy to be slow to recover.

Mad Fox – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider K McEvoy stated he was obliged to settle further back in the field and this was as a result of the fast early tempo of the race.  He said after obtaining a position behind the eventual winner, Realise Potential, when that runner improved rounding the home turn, his mount did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr C Duckworth advised that gelding will now be spelled.

Foreign Territory – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider J McDonald stated that his mount, after not beginning well, was able to improve in the early stages and approaching the 1200m, he felt that Mollyfied would shift to a position on the rail, which would enable him to race outside that runner in a one off position.  He added that when Mollyfied maintained its position off the rail, Foreign Territory was left racing three wide and ultimately had no cover for the major part of the race.  He added that the gelding was also disadvantaged by the strong tempo of today's race and in his opinion, did not feel comfortable on today's track surface.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Co-trainer Mr A Bott agreed with the explanation of rider J McDonald and advised that the gelding will now be spelled.

RACE 6 – Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1100m

Jetwings – began awkwardly.  Jetwings, for some distance after the 150m, was held up when attempting to improve between Miss Wonderland and Junglized, which shifted out.  A post race veterinary examination revealed Jetwings to be lame (2/5) in the off hind leg.  Trainer Mr G Ryan was advised a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding racing again.

Rockafella – after being slow to begin was crowded between Puppet Master and Miss Wonderland which shifted in.  Rockafella was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

Junglized – began awkwardly.  When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, T Berry stated his mount travelled well outside the leader and eventual winner, Puppet Master.  He stated that he came under pressure rounding the home turn and failed to finish the race off and was disappointing.  T Berry added that in his opinion, Junglized may not have appreciated today's track conditions.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Esperance – after being slow to begin, from a wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.

Zin Zan Elsie – raced wide and without cover throughout.  Rider J Collett was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.

Za Zi Ba – after beginning only fairly, when caught wide in the early stages was shifted in behind runners to obtain cover.  Za Zi Ba raced keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 500m was steadied off the heels of Miss Wonderland.  Za Zi Ba was held up rounding the home turn and on straightening, shifted to the outside of Miss Wonderland and in doing so, made contact with Zin Zan Elsie.

Miss Wonderland – hung out rounding the home turn and in the straight and proved difficult to be fully ridden out.

RACE 7 – Australian Turf Club Handicap 1900m

Valentino Rossa – after being slow to begin, was crowded between Geometrist and El Dorado Mine.  Shortly after straightening, Valentino Rossa was steadied to avoid the heels of Bochy when that runner suffered interference and was obliged to shift to the inside where the gelding established a narrow run to the inside of Hendo's Magic passing the 200m.

Chain Of Fools – began awkwardly and lost ground and then was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.

Newtown Bluebag – from a wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.

Le Cavalier – from a wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.

Night Breaker – raced wide and without cover throughout.

Bochy – was held up making the home turn and on straightening, shifted to the inside of Dylan's Romance to improve.  At this time, Bochy, which was held up to the inside of El Dorado Mine, shifted out to improve into the same run.  As there was insufficient room for both Bochy and El Dorado Mine to improve, both runners became badly crowded between Dylan's Romance and Hendo's Magic and had to be steadied for some distance after the 250m.  Bochy then raced in restricted room between Hendo's Magic and El Dorado Mine between the 200m and 100m.  Rider H Bowman stated that had his mount not received significant interference in the early part of the home straight, Bochy would have finished more prominently.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Geometrist – was held up over the final 300m and as a result, could not be properly tested at any stage in the straight.

Ilwendo – a post race veterinary examination revealed Ilwendo to have been galloped on on the off hind cannon.

GENERAL:  Trainer Mr E O'Rourke pleaded guilty to a charge under AR80E(1) of having in his possession an unlabelled and unprescribed syringe which was discovered in his stable premises during an inspection conducted by Stewards on 13 July 2018.  The analysis of this syringe by the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory found it to contain the prohibited substance Ketorolac.  In all the circumstances, Mr O'Rourke was fined the sum of $500.
