No joy for Japan as Dschingis Secret takes Foy

German raider Dschingis Secret won the Group 2 Qatar Prix Foy (2400m) at Chantilly on Sunday as Japan's Arc hope Satono Diamond could manage only a disappointing fourth.

Last year's German Derby winner Dschingis Secret, who defeated Hawkbill in the Grosser Preis von Berlin most recently, quickened up smartly in the closing stages to deny the late challenges of the Godolphin pair Cloth Of Stars and Talismanic.

It was Satono Noblesse, the pacemaker for his higher profile stabelmate, who set the pace early on and Satono Diamond joined him with two furlongs to run.

However, with the race there to be won, Satono Diamond was not able to quicken when Christophe Lemaire asked for more and was comfortably beaten.

Paddy Power shortened the winner from 25-1 to 16-1 for the Arc, with Satono Diamond's below-par run also meaning Enable was cut to 4-5 from evens.

In-form Bateel battles to Vermeille victory

Bateel bagged a first career Group 1 with a gutsy success in the Qatar Prix Vermeille.

Roger Varian's Ajman Princess showed the way under Andrea Atzeni, who was seeking a second Group 1 win in as many days following his Irish Champions Stakes victory on Saturday.

She led the field to the two-furlong marker with Jamie Spencer and God Given for company but was joined by a strong-travelling Journey and Bateel.

The latter took it up with a little over a furlong to run and was stronger than Journey in the closing stages to eventually see off that rival and win, with a further break back to last year's winner Left Hand in third.

The stewards held an inquiry into possible interference on the turn for home but Bateel kept the race.
