Rosehill’s Chris Waller has confirmed that champion mare Winx will take her place in the first Group 1 of the Sydney season at Randwick on Saturday, the $500,000, WFA George Main Stakes (1600m).
Waller said that the six-year-old Street Cry mare has come through her two earlier runs well, holding her weight and without showing she has over taxed herself in the two winning runs.
In both the Group 2 Warwick Stakes over 1400m on August 19th and the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m on September 2nd the mare gave away long leads and then powered home to win requiring her considerable ability each time to achieve the result.
On Saturday, the 30th start of her career, Winx will be joined in the George Main Stakes by stablemates Mackintosh (NZ), Tom Melbourne (IRE), Foxplay and McCreery (GB).
It was Foxplay who ran Winx to within a half-neck in the Warwick Stakes. The Group 1 winner tuned up for a repeat against her illustrious stablemate with a fourth in a trial over 1200m at Warwick Farm last Friday.
Full nominations for the George Main Stakes and the other five black type races on the nine race programme will be taken on Monday morning.
